Chapter 6: First Day at the Academy
The next morning came slowly.
Godric found himself unable to sleep from all the thoughts rushing through his head, but finally, after what felt like eternity, the sun rose, and he was quick to take notice.
He took no more than five minutes to get ready and leave the confines of his house, missing Mina by a hair’s breadth as she rushed out of her room, excited to see whether he had managed to summon a beast, only to find that he was already gone.
She pouted as she looked into the fridge.
"He didn’t even eat the food I made..."
Mina closed the fridge with a small sigh before turning back toward the table.
The note she had left was still there.
Thinking he had simply missed it, she reached out to pick it up.
But then she noticed the word written on the back.
A single word.
Awakened.
For a moment, she froze.
Then a smile slowly spread across her face.
Becoming a summoner and awakening had been something Godric talked about constantly. He took the pride of their family far more seriously than she did, but she had always supported him.
Seeing that he had finally achieved the thing he had spent years chasing, she couldn’t help but feel happy for him.
Still...
Her gaze moved back toward the fridge.
"He could’ve at least eaten something."

Godric arrived at the academy far earlier than most classes began.
The courtyard was still rather empty, with only faculty moving through the open space, rushing in to get ready for their next classes.
Just as he was about to enter the main building, a convoy of three black cars suddenly arrived in the courtyard.
Godric wanted to ignore it at first and go register as a student right away, but seeing how even the faculty members all lost their attention to the sudden arrival, he couldn’t help but pause for a moment and watch as three men dressed in suits got out of the cars and opened the door for the person inside.
A pair of long legs exited the car first, with the body following a second later.
Godric was about to turn around, realising it was just another student, but at that moment, he saw a familiar silver-white sway through the air.
’Isn’t that...?’
The girl from yesterday exited the car with her chin up, walking with the confidence of someone who could probably own the academy as much as attend it.
Godric was in the middle of judging the wasteful expense of a three-car convoy for a simple academy drop-off when Raven’s purple gaze swept across the courtyard.
He turned around just in time, picking up his pace as he dashed inside the main building and walked toward the reception.
"I’m here to register as a student."
The lady at the desk raised her gaze.
"You’re... awakened?" she asked, confusion clear on her face.
Although there was a small chance of awakening and summoning a beast outside the ceremony, the chances were low, almost ten times lower when compared to the ceremony... at least according to the academy data.
"Yes," he replied flatly.
The woman studied him for a couple of moments before turning her gaze down to the computer screen below.
"Name?"
"Godric Blackstar."
She froze, her gaze lifting up once again.
It was the look Godric had seen countless times before.
Although everyone heard of the once Great House Blackstar, the rumours about it were so varied and so wild that many believed his family had long been dead, so it wasn’t unusual to see surprise on people’s faces.
"Did you say..."
"Blackstar. Yes."
The elderly lady held his gaze for a moment before asking. "Do you have any ID on you?"
Godric nodded, then reached for the pocket in his pants.
’Huh?’
His eyes widened.
He moved from one pocket to another, twisting and turning every piece of fabric he could find, but in the end, his ID was not there.
"It was just there..."
"If I am to register you, I need to see some ID," the woman said flatly, though her tone carried a hint of irritation, most likely thinking he was pretending to be someone he was not.
Godric clenched his fist.
He was about to turn around and rush to get home when a figure approached the desk and placed a rectangular-shaped ID card onto the desk.
"You dropped this yesterday," she said.
Godric turned to see the girl with silver-white hair standing beside him.
The receptionist’s expression changed the moment she saw the girl standing beside him.
"L-Lady Stormbourne. Do you know this person?"
Raven replied while holding Godric’s gaze. "We’ve met before."
"Oh, um, if that’s the case, I’ll get to your onboarding right away." The woman began clicking rapidly on her keyboard as Godric continued to hold Raven’s gaze.
Stormbourne.
He knew that name. Everyone did.
It belonged to one of the Great Houses, with its statue standing beside that of his grandfather.
"Seems like you need to get a new ID," Raven said, glancing at his ID card, which still had his status as Unawakened.
Before Godric could even respond, she already moved, walking down the hall and into one of the many corridors leading away from it.
It took over an hour after Raven’s departure for Godric to finish his onboarding.
He received his uniform, which was completely black, a stark contrast to Raven’s uniform, which was pristine white.
The difference wasn’t accidental.
Those belonging to one of the Four Great Houses wore pristine white uniforms, while everyone else wore the same black clothing provided by the academy.
After getting his uniform, student identification, and a class plan, Godric was on his way to his first class, which was about to end.
"...and then, when they finally reach—"
A loud knock interrupted the professor’s speech, cutting it short.
The middle-aged man turned toward the door and gave Godric a nod to enter.
"Oh? You must be a new student?"
Godric nodded.
"Good, the class is about to end, but please go ahead and introduce yourself to the class."
Godric stepped forward with confidence and spoke as though he was doing more than just a simple introduction.
"Godric Blackstar."
