Chapter 33: Chapter 33: I’ll Marry No One But You, Believe It or Not

Melody Monroe had always been this way, and it was all due to her upbringing.

She had lived with her uncle, where nothing was truly her own. Once she started earning her own money, she became exceptionally frugal and careful with her finances. The balance in her bank account was her greatest source of security.

In her original world, she had been all alone, with no significant attachments. She was already a college sophomore, perfectly capable of supporting herself.

But in this world, she had a little treasure. Now that she was his mother, she had to dote on him. She could never let her child live a hard life with her.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Talia Mercer immediately stood up to answer it.

"Rose!"

Hearing the name, Melody Monroe quickly cleared the things off the table and stood up as well.

"Rose, what brings you here?"

"There’s a business gathering tonight at the Phoenix Tail Bar. Director Wendy and several investors are there, planning a new movie. You’re coming with me. It’ll be a chance to see if any opportunities come up."

"Okay." Melody Monroe nodded. "Rose, for something like this, you can just call me next time. You don’t have to come all the way over here."

Rose Shaw’s eyes dimmed. She glanced at Melody Monroe. "I was in the neighborhood."

Melody Monroe shut her mouth and said no more.

Rose Shaw glanced at the food laid out on the table, her face immediately sinking. "This is what you’re eating?"

"Yeah."

"Get to the gym and work out for two hours! Now!"

"What?"

"Talia, arrange it immediately. And from now on, she is absolutely not allowed to eat this kind of food! She pulled an all-nighter for a shoot yesterday. Did she do a face mask?" Rose Shaw glanced at her watch. "After the two-hour workout, she’s going straight to the salon for a facial."

"Rose, I..."

"Now!"

Melody Monroe: ...

’Rose Shaw is stricter than a school dean, and I don’t even dare to defy her!’

...

At seven o’clock, a black luxury car pulled up to the very stylish Phoenix Tail Bar.

A grove of bamboo was planted in front of the bar, with a few peacocks roaming among the stalks.

A long walkway led forward, covered by a wisteria trellis. Tiny lights twinkled among the blossoms, casting enchanting, dreamlike shadows.

The roar of a motorcycle shattered the tranquility, its thunderous noise sending the peacocks scattering in a panic.

Jasper Rockwell parked his motorcycle, taking up an entire parking space. He swung himself off the bike, then leaned over to fix his hair in the rearview mirror of Evan Fairchild’s car before popping a lollipop into his mouth.

"Evan! Wait for me!"

Evan Fairchild paused. His impeccably tailored suit, subtly exuding luxury, accentuated his ramrod-straight posture. Even for a casual night at a bar, he was flawless—the top button of his shirt was still fastened.

Jasper Rockwell stared, dumbfounded. He pulled the lollipop from his mouth and grinned. "Evan, if I were a girl, I’d totally throw myself at you! I wouldn’t marry anyone else, believe it!"

Evan Fairchild shot him a cold glance and strode ahead.

Jasper Rockwell was the one who had arranged tonight’s gathering.

He was always at a loose end anyway, so he just tagged along with Evan Fairchild. Sticking with Evan also meant he’d get chewed out less.

After all, President Evan Fairchild was the most favored junior among the older generation in their circle.

Whenever Evan Fairchild’s name came up, they all felt the urge to either smother their own children or stuff them back in the womb for a do-over.

"President Fairchild! Master Rockwell!"

The moment Evan Fairchild appeared, everyone rose to their feet to greet him.

"Evan, let me make some introductions," Jasper Rockwell said, gesturing to the men before them. "This is President Lewis, President Sutton, and President Coleman. They’re all involved in the film and television industry—titans of the trade!"
