She set an alarm on her phone for seven.

Even though she had only just fallen asleep, she had to call Ian and hear his voice.

When Ian Monroe woke up, the first thing he did was check his smartwatch for a message from his mom.

He couldn’t fall asleep now without holding the watch, just so he could be ready for his mom’s messages at any moment.

He wouldn’t call her first, because he was afraid of disturbing her work.

There was no message from his mom this morning. His long eyelashes drooped, and a hint of disappointment colored his beautiful, big eyes.

’Mom must be too busy and working really hard. That’s why she didn’t call me.’

He put the watch down and started to get dressed. Just as he finished, he heard the watch’s notification tone. He immediately snatched it up, the gloom on his little face vanishing, instantly replaced by a sunny brightness.

Melody Monroe had only been asleep for a short while when the alarm jolted her awake, her head buzzing.

"Mom!" A childish voice called from the phone. In an instant, she sat up as if she’d been shot full of adrenaline.

"Sweetheart, are you up?"

"Yeah."

"Mommy was busy until very late last night and didn’t get to call you. Did you sleep well?"

"Yeah."

"Are you getting used to the new kindergarten?"

"Yeah."

Melody Monroe gave a helpless smile. "Can you say a few more words to Mommy?"

"Very good."

"Sweetheart, what’s very good?"

"Kindergarten. It’s very good."

"Do you miss Mommy?"

"Yeah."

"Well, is there any gift you want? When Mommy’s done with work, I’ll buy you a gift."

"Mommy."

Melody Monroe was speechless. ’...Does this mean he doesn’t want a gift, he just wants me?’

"Okay, go get ready now, it’s almost time for school. Mommy will call you again tonight."

"Okay."

Melody Monroe hung up and collapsed back onto the bed, falling into a deep sleep once more.

Ian Monroe gave his smartwatch a little kiss and ran happily out the door.

Raymond Ford arrived at the filming location, and crew members quickly came over to ask how he was.

"Raymond, are you alright? Why are you here so early?"

"Yeah, you could have slept in for another couple of hours. No one’s ready yet."

"I’m fine now, thank you all for your concern." Raymond Ford thanked them. "I’m going to go find Director Wallace first."

"Raymond!" a voice called from behind.

Rhona Hughes patted Raymond Ford on the shoulder and stepped in front of him.

Raymond Ford’s expression flickered but quickly returned to normal. "Do you have scenes today?"

"I do! I landed another role as the second female lead. After I finish filming today, I have to rush off to the set for the other show." Rhona Hughes’s face held a trace of smugness. "Why do you look so pale? Didn’t you rest well?"

"It’s nothing, the filming schedule has just been a bit intense lately."

"Aren’t you going to ask me who’s directing the new show I just got?"

Raymond Ford gave an awkward laugh. "Who’s directing it?"

"Director Sullivan’s new project! Stellaris is finally giving me some resources! I thought for sure that after Melody Monroe got injured, Stellaris would get me the second female lead in *Warm Wind*, but I can’t believe Hailey Paige snatched it! But it’s all good now that I’ve got this new show!"

"Melody Monroe is back."

"What?"

Those four simple words made Rhona Hughes’s blood run cold!

"She’s playing the role of Willow Lynch now. I have to go, let’s talk later."

Rhona Hughes stood frozen for a long moment before she came to her senses, secretly clenching her fists as a flash of hatred crossed her eyes.

She and Melody Monroe had been on the same competition show. Melody was the champion, and she was the runner-up. Melody had outshone her at every turn, and she suspected Melody had used underhanded means to win the title, but she had no proof.
