Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Chloe York is Three-Timing?
After sending the message, Brooke York plastered a smile on her face and walked back to the classroom.
"Ooh, fresh from a meeting with Campus Prince Prescott. Someone’s smile is awfully sweet!"
"We haven’t even had lunch, and we’re already being fed this lovey-dovey stuff."
Brooke York deliberately blushed at her classmates’ teasing. When she got back to her seat, Clara Bell gave her an "OK" sign.
Brooke York breathed a sigh of relief and glanced over at Chloe York. Seeing Chloe diligently writing with a pen in hand, she gloated inwardly. ’Let’s see how long you can keep that composure.’
The class bell rang, and everyone settled down, taking out their textbooks to get ready.
Chloe York stopped working on her practice problems, checked her schedule, and took out the textbook for the next class. Seeing her so focused, Stella Winters felt incredibly gratified.
In the past, Stella, as her deskmate, had tried to persuade Chloe not to lose herself over a guy, but Chloe wouldn’t listen. If it wasn’t for the fated connection of being deskmates since their first year of high school, she would have given up on Chloe long ago!
During class, Chloe listened attentively and marked key points. If there was something the teacher explained that she still didn’t quite understand, she circled it, thinking she would look up an explanation on her phone after class.
She had tried raising her hand before to ask the teacher to explain it again, but in the teacher’s eyes, her request was just a prank. After all, the "original her" had never studied and was always at the bottom of the class. The teacher had gone from wanting to save her to growing disappointed, and finally, just started ignoring her completely.
When the class ended and the teacher left the room, students began to stretch, pull out their phones, or review their notes.
"Chloe, look at the confession wall, quick!" Stella Winters suddenly exclaimed in anger.
"The confession wall?"
"I’ll send it to you." Realizing Chloe didn’t follow things like that, Stella quickly forwarded it to her.
Quite a few students had already seen the confession wall post, and they kept glancing over at Chloe and whispering to each other.
"Brooke, you’re brilliant!" Clara Bell said, looking at the heated discussion on her phone. Everyone was calling Chloe shameless, promiscuous, and a three-timer. Chloe’s reputation at school was now completely trashed.
Under these circumstances, she could forget about focusing on her college entrance exams. She might even get expelled!
"Shut up," Brooke York snapped. ’I texted you instead of telling you in person specifically to avoid anyone noticing and realizing we were the ones who posted it. And you just had to come over and say I’m ’brilliant’? Are you trying to get us caught?’
Having been snapped at, Clara Bell immediately clammed up. She felt a surge of resentment toward Brooke, but considering Brooke’s status, she could only swallow it.
When Chloe saw what Stella had forwarded, her face instantly darkened. Spreading rumors about other things was one thing, but slandering her for dating—and two-timing, no less—was absolutely not okay.
From the angle of the photo, Chloe knew immediately that this was Brooke’s doing.
Henry Ford also heard about the confession wall from a classmate. He stood up and explained, "That day, Chloe was just asking me for the class schedule. There’s nothing going on between us. As for the person who posted the photo of me and Chloe, I’m sure it must be someone in our class."
Henry was thinking the same thing as Chloe. The angle of the picture was too specific. It had to be one of their classmates.
Hearing what Henry said, the students started murmuring, trying to guess who it could be. Some even tried to pinpoint the seat it was taken from based on the angle.
Brooke York and Clara Bell’s faces went pale. They hadn’t expected Henry Ford to react so quickly.
But Brooke quickly calmed herself. ’Last night, after sending the photos to Clara, I deleted them and our chat history from my phone. I told Clara to delete everything immediately, too. Even if they suspect me, they have no proof. The only potential giveaway is my seat.’
"Brooke York, it was you, wasn’t it!" Chloe shot to her feet, pointing directly at Brooke.
"Chloe, how can you suspect me? We’re sisters, after all. When something like this happens to you, don’t you think it affects me too? Why would I possibly do such a thing?" Brooke asked, feigning innocence.
"Besides you, I doubt anyone else in this class holds that much of a grudge against Chloe," Henry Ford chimed in, his tone firm.
"Henry, you suspect me too?" Tears of indignation welled in Brooke’s eyes as she stared at him.
Henry remained silent, which was as good as a confirmation.
"Fine," Brooke said. "The two people involved are ganging up on me. But what proof do you have?"
After saying this, Brooke shot a look at Clara Bell, who immediately understood and jumped in to stir things up.
"Henry, you and Chloe are in this together, aren’t you! Ganging up on Brooke like that. That’s some impressive teamwork you two have."
With Clara stirring the pot, everyone’s perspective shifted. Henry Ford was actually siding with Chloe York to accuse Brooke York? That wasn’t like him. He was usually the type to believe the innocent don’t need to defend themselves.
"So there really is something going on between Henry and Chloe!"
"I knew something was off during the last dictation quiz! We all know what Chloe’s grades are usually like, but she suddenly did so well she even beat Brooke. And who wrote the questions for that quiz? The class president!"
"No wonder Chloe was so bold as to suggest a competition. She must have gotten the questions beforehand!"
"No wonder Ethan Prescott rejected Chloe, even though she’s a York. The moment Brooke came back, he fell for her instead. He must have seen Chloe’s true colors ages ago."
As the students’ gossip grew louder, Chloe held up her phone, which showed the picture of her and Henry. She aimed the screen at Brooke. "This photo was taken from the angle of your seat."
"Are you saying no one else could have been walking by? Fine. Even if you claim I took this picture, what about the one in the cafeteria? You’re not going to tell me I was sitting in that exact spot, too, are you?"
"I was there in the cafeteria, too," Stella Winters stood up to clarify. "There were three of us. Whoever posted this photo edited me out. And Chloe really was just asking Henry for a schedule—it was my idea!"
"Stella Winters, you’re friends with Chloe York. You’re probably just covering for her!"
"Exactly! Everyone knows you two are friends. Even if you were there, you were probably just running interference so Chloe could have her date with Evan Shaw!"
"Henry Ford, Chloe York, your homeroom teacher wants to see you in the office."
Just then, a student rushed to the classroom door to summon them. The homeroom teacher obviously knew about the situation.
After the pair left the classroom, the students’ chatter grew louder.
"I can’t believe it. I never took Chloe for such a player. I always thought she was just a desperate simp!"
"So who does Chloe actually like?!"
"Who she likes doesn’t matter. What matters is that she’s clinging to Ethan Prescott while also getting tangled up with Evan Shaw and Henry Ford."
