Chapter 27: Chapter 26: Time to Hunt

With that, she turned and strode toward the stage.

Now, it was time for the real hunt to begin.

The guests’ eyes followed her. As she passed Nina Jennings, without even turning her head, she smoothly caught the small remote Nina tossed to her.

’Woohoo! So cool.’

Reaching the center of the stage, she picked up the microphone. "Everyone, as the banquet draws to a close, I’d like to say a few words."

The crowd began to draw closer. Grandpa Lowell and Elder Hawthorne exchanged a look. Elder Hawthorne stood up with a smile. "Old Man Lowell, shall we go see what Yvonne has to say?"

"Sounds good. This way, please," Grandpa Lowell said with a chuckle.

The other three elders looked at each other, then followed suit.

"First, I’d like to apologize to my family. Because what I’m about to say and do will likely ruin the wonderful banquet they’ve prepared for me." Yvonne Lowell gave her family an apologetic smile.

Everyone from the Lowell and Sutton Families was completely bewildered, but there wasn’t a trace of anger on their faces.

Only Grandpa Lowell’s eyes flashed with disapproval. ’This child... How can she take all the blame herself?’

Yvonne Lowell lightly pressed a button on the remote. On the massive screen behind her, a screenshot from a surveillance video appeared, showing a little girl squatting on the ground and playing with a toy.

"This is a screenshot from the surveillance footage on the day I was abducted. I’d like to ask Ms. Marilyn Walsh if this scene looks familiar to her?"

The crowd broke into whispers. They had never heard of a prominent family named Walsh in Kingsland.

As if reading their minds, Yvonne Lowell sneered. "It seems that after all these years of social climbing, Ms. Walsh still hasn’t managed to truly break into the circle of Kingsland’s elite wives."

With a snap of her fingers, a spotlight hit Marilyn Walsh from above. Her pale, panicked face was projected onto the large screen.

She happened to be standing quite close, having wanted a better look at the drama, and she was surrounded by a crowd.

"Ms. Walsh, does it look familiar?" Yvonne Lowell asked again with a smile.

But to Marilyn Walsh, that lovely, smiling face was like the grin of a demon come to claim her soul.

Hector Sutton gave her a sharp, surreptitious pinch on the back, causing her face to twist in pain. It was enough to snap her out of her daze. "Miss... Miss Lowell, what is the meaning of this? How could an insignificant family like ours ever have the honor of crossing paths with you? Tonight is the very first time I’ve ever met you, haha..."

"You’ve certainly had a good life these past few years, Ms. Walsh. No wonder you’re so forgetful."

Yvonne then played a video. It showed an undisguised Marilyn Walsh drugging the Ford siblings and loading them into a van. She then pointed in a direction and said something. The scene cut, and the same van pulled up beside a young Yvonne Lowell, who was then swiftly abducted.

"Remember now? Back when you sold the Ford siblings to human traffickers, you were seen. Worried about being exposed, you had the traffickers take the little girl who saw you along with them. That little girl was me. I’ll give you this, you were smart enough to find a surveillance blind spot. Unfortunately for you, an elderly woman lived alone nearby. Her children, worried for her safety, had installed a full-coverage surveillance system in her home with no blind spots. And it just so happened to capture everything."

After the video finished, everyone from the Lowell and Sutton Families was incandescent with rage. The women of the families were sobbing uncontrollably.

Wendy Sutton shoved Charles Lowell away as he tried to hold her, strode right up to Marilyn Walsh, and slapped her hard across the face. "You wicked woman! Because of you, I was separated from my child for fifteen whole years! How could you be so vile!?"

Whether as a daughter of the Sutton Family or as Matriarch Lowell, Wendy Sutton had always been the model of a refined, gentle lady. Yet here she was, striking someone in public. The only thing was, her insults were surprisingly clean.

A wave of warmth washed over Yvonne Lowell. ’That’s my mom, all right. Even her insults sound elegant.’

She shot Charles Lowell a look. Understanding, he moved forward to put an arm around his wife and lead her away.

But Wendy Sutton wouldn’t move. Though she was trembling with rage, her face streaked with tears, she stood her ground, her back perfectly straight, glaring daggers at Marilyn Walsh.

As the two women faced off, it was instantly clear who was the common pheasant and who was the noble phoenix.

"Mom, I need you. Will you come up here with me?" Yvonne Lowell sighed softly, extending a hand to her mother below the stage.

The moment she heard that, Wendy Sutton turned and walked onto the stage without the slightest hesitation.

The only things that ever slowed Wendy down weren’t the length of her legs or the height of her heels, but the slit on her qipao and whoever was calling for her.

In just a few strides, she was in front of Yvonne Lowell, gripping her hand tightly.

Yvonne freed a hand to wipe away her tears. "Mom, such beautiful eyes aren’t meant for crying. It’s not just my heart that will ache; Dad will get angry with me, too."

"He’d dare!" Wendy Sutton shot a death glare down at Charles Lowell.

’What did my daughter say? Why is my wife glaring at me? And why can’t I go up there?! Hmph, I’m mad!’

"Please just stand here with me, okay? Let me finish this. I promise you, our family will never be separated again," Yvonne Lowell said with a reassuring smile.

Wendy Sutton regained her composure, realizing she would be a distraction. She wiped her tears. "I’ll go check on your grandmothers. You carry on. I’ll be waiting for you in the audience."

"Okay." Yvonne Lowell watched her mother descend from the stage before turning back to the audience.

Just as Yvonne was about to speak, Holly Sutton stepped forward to make a scene, putting on a pitiful act. "Miss Lowell, I know I was wrong to impersonate your friend, Master Lunara. But you can’t use that little incident as an excuse to fabricate surveillance footage and frame my mother! It was my sister who was foolish enough to run away from home with our brother back then. It had nothing to do with us!"

’Anyone with half a brain could tell she was lying. Yvonne already showed the evidence, and she’s still trying to whitewash the situation? What is she using, bleach? How desperate can you get?’

Hearing the four words "ran away from home," a murderous glint flashed in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes. But instead of anger, she laughed. "Miss Sutton, I suggest you worry about yourself. Who is this victim act for? After all, all your dirty secrets are already trending online. And another thing, you’re just an illegitimate daughter. What right do you have to call her your sister? Everything the Sutton Family possesses belongs to the Ford Family. You’re nothing but a pack of thieves."

Everyone quickly pulled out their phones. Sure enough, the impersonation incident had just been the appetizer.

Now, the trending topics online were all about Holly Sutton: school bullying, diva behavior, sleeping her way to the top, and spreading vicious rumors that drove a rising starlet to suicide. Even her own brother, Ethan Sutton, getting into drugs—she had a hand in that too?!

Seeing Hector Sutton’s face turn ashen as he stared at his phone, while Marilyn Walsh and Holly Sutton were still clueless, Yvonne Lowell kindly decided to play an audio recording for them.

She even added a helpful reminder, "Listen closely, Ms. Walsh. This recording features the true culprit who’s responsible for sending your son to prison."
