Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Paternity Test
"You mean... the boss behind Tidalview?" Nolan Crawford’s head snapped up to look at him.
"More or less. Even if it’s not them, they’re definitely connected."
Nolan Crawford clicked his tongue. "What’s this boss even after? Isn’t it enough to just collect the money? Running background checks just to sell a house... And this person’s intelligence network is ridiculously vast."
"The house probably has some special meaning, so they don’t want it to be tainted," Leo Grant said nonchalantly, twirling the pen in his hand.
Nolan Crawford was unconvinced. "What special meaning could it have? Only an idiot would turn down money."
...
The next morning, Yvonne Lowell came downstairs after washing up. She grabbed a bottle of orange juice from the fridge and started chugging it.
Sitting on the sofa, she recalled the information she had gathered.
’The fact that the Lowell family lost their youngest daughter fifteen years ago was no secret among the elite circles.’
’The Lowell and Sutton Families had been searching all these years.’
’Charles Lowell and Wendy Sutton were famously known as a model couple.’
’Ever since Charles Lowell handed over the group’s management to Caleb Lowell, he and Wendy Sutton had become practically inseparable, traveling the world every year in search of their lost daughter.’
’If you tried to find either one of them, the other was sure to show up, and they might even bring the whole family with them.’
’Caleb Lowell, the eldest son. The classic, cold, self-possessed CEO type who never let his emotions show.’
’The second son, Harrison Lowell. A top-tier star at Aurelian Entertainment, a three-time major award-winning actor by age twenty-two. Noisy and sharp-tongued. Too loud, and always surrounded by cameras.’
’And the third son, Yancy Lowell? My non-identical twin brother. He’s still a student. What would I do, go find him during class? Give him a lecture?’
’Then there were the four grandparents, uncles, aunts, and all the cousins.’
Just thinking about this enormous web of family relations was enough to give Yvonne Lowell a headache.
’So, all things considered, meeting Caleb Lowell first would be the safest bet. As for the others... tsk, I’ll deal with them when I have to.’
’I’ll worry about what happens after we meet later. For now, I’ll enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts.’
Having made up her mind, Yvonne Lowell dialed the private number for Caleb Lowell that she had found earlier.
...
「Lowell Group, CEO’s Office」
Assistant Grant was reporting on work progress to Caleb Lowell.
"Boss, construction on the resort project in Quinton has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of next year. The bidding for the land parcel in the Kingsland Suburbs will be next Wednesday. Also, Bruce is still refusing to budge, so you may need to personally make a trip to Continent O this weekend. As for the branch office..."
Just then, his private phone rang, and Assistant Grant tactfully paused.
Caleb Lowell glanced at the screen. It was an unknown number with no caller ID. He frowned slightly.
But then he remembered his phone automatically blocked spam calls, and very few people knew this number, so he swiped to answer.
"Hello?"
A cool, clear female voice came from the other end. "Hello, this is Yvonne Lowell."
Assistant Grant didn’t know what was said, but he saw his boss shoot to his feet, sending a file fluttering to the floor.
"Who did you say you are?!" Caleb Lowell asked, his voice shaking with emotion.
’But then he remembered all the people who had shown up before, claiming to be his sister. Some had even deliberately gotten plastic surgery to resemble her, all to impersonate her and latch onto the Lowell family’s power. But in the end, once the DNA tests came back, every single one of them was an impostor.’
It felt like a bucket of cold water had been dumped over his head, washing away the excitement that had just flared up.
’He mocked himself inwardly. His family had searched for so many years without finding his sister. How could she possibly just show up on her own?’
He only heard a soft sigh from the other end. "My name is Yvonne Lowell. According to the information I’ve found, barring any surprises, I should be your biological sister who went missing fifteen years ago. When are you free to do a DNA test with me?"
"Fine. Where are you? I’ll come find you now," Caleb Lowell agreed after a moment’s thought.
’She managed to get my private number. We’ll see if she’s really my sister or if this is just a dirty trick from a rival.’
’Besides, he’d lost count of how many DNA tests he’d done over the years. What was one more?’
’But what if?’ A flicker of hope appeared in Caleb Lowell’s eyes.
"No need. See you in half an hour at the entrance of the Lowell Group’s private hospital."
After getting his affirmative reply, Yvonne Lowell hung up and left in Little Black.
Just as she drove out of the villa’s main gate, a black Maybach pulled out from the villa across the street.
Yvonne Lowell paid it no mind and continued driving away from the villa complex.
Meanwhile, in the black Maybach, Nolan Crawford, in the passenger seat, pressed his face against the window, his eyes following Little Black.
"Holy shit! La Voiture Noire! The one-of-a-kind Bugatti La Voiture Noire! That’s so fucking cool! I just want to touch it! I’d die to take that for a spin!"
