Chapter 13: Chapter 12: I’m Kind of Shipping You Two
Nolan Crawford was stunned by the question. "I don’t know. It’s not like I’ve ever had to pick him up."
"If you don’t know, then ask. You’re going to pick him up from school later."
"Wait, Brother Grant, what am I supposed to pick him up for? The family driver will get him," Nolan Crawford said, completely baffled.
Leo Grant shot him a look, and Nolan immediately surrendered. "I’ll ask, I’ll ask right now. I’ll be a good big brother today and pick him up from school."
Nolan Crawford called the Crawford family’s driver, asked for Martin Crawford’s school release time, and informed him that he would be picking Martin up personally.
Then, his eyes sparkling, he looked at Leo Grant. "Brother Grant, they get out at five-thirty. It’s four-thirty now. If I don’t go, I’ll get stuck in traffic. These documents..."
"Let’s go. We’ll deal with the documents tonight." Leo Grant stood up and brushed some nonexistent dust from his clothes.
Nolan Crawford’s brain short-circuited for a moment. "Brother Grant, didn’t you want *me* to go pick him up?"
"I’m going with you. Cut the crap."
"Oh, okay. Coming."
It wasn’t until he was in the car that Nolan Crawford finally processed it. ’Wait, that’s *my* brother, isn’t it? My own flesh and blood! What the hell is Leo Grant tagging along for?’
...
Meanwhile, Yvonne Lowell had just returned to their private room.
Yancy Lowell said to her with a grave and earnest expression,
"Nola, if you run into Brother Grant in the future, don’t get too close to him, okay?"
"Why not?"
Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow, not expecting him to say that.
"Huh? Nola, you ran into Brother Grant?" Harrison Lowell looked up at her words.
Yancy Lowell nodded, finding it a bit hard to explain.
"We happened to see him teaching someone a lesson, and then Nola turned around and gave *him* a lecture."
"Holy crap?" Harrison Lowell’s expression was impossible to describe.
"Nola, listen to your second brother, okay? This Brother Grant guy... he’s got a thing about women. He doesn’t like them getting too close. And he can be vicious, so just keep your distance, you hear?"
Yancy Lowell shot him a look and explained to Yvonne Lowell,
"That guy’s name is Leo Grant. The Grant Family is on the same level as ours. But they only have one heir per generation, and he’s it. Don’t be fooled because he’s always fiddling with prayer beads and acts like a devout Buddhist. He may look all pure and gentle, but in reality, he’s an incredibly shrewd man."
"The key thing is, he’s terrified of women. Other than his family, no woman has ever gotten within a meter of him. But he’s not the type to just beat people up, you know? It’s usually when the other party is in the wrong. So you don’t have to be too afraid of him. If you see him around, just keep your distance, and you’ll be fine."
"Okay, Third Brother. I understand."
Yvonne Lowell nodded obediently, lowering her gaze to hide the shrewd glint in her eyes.
’Afraid of women? I’m not so sure.’
She was suddenly very curious about what lay beneath that pure and gentle exterior of his.
’Besides... the image he presented to her from the very beginning didn’t match the Lowell brothers’ description at all.’
"It’s getting late. We should go pick Genevieve up from school," Harrison Lowell said, standing up and putting on a mask and sunglasses.
Yvonne Lowell looked at his getup. ’Tsk, what an eyesore,’ she thought, standing still.
"Let’s go. What are you two standing there for like statues?" Harrison Lowell asked, confused.
The brother and sister exchanged a helpless glance and followed him out.
...
「Solstice Academy, a private school that encompassed both middle and high school.」
The school’s system was a bit unusual. Its students were either academically gifted, or academically gifted *and* wealthy.
To put it bluntly, it was a top-tier school where grades were all that mattered, but one that allowed dyed hair, perms, and jewelry.
If your grades were too poor, it didn’t matter how much money you had.
After all, this was a school funded by the Grant Family. Aside from the Lowell Family, who in all of Kingsland could claim to be richer than the Grants?
It was said that this one rule was single-handedly responsible for keeping every tutoring center in Kingsland in business.
5:20 PM
Nolan Crawford was getting antsy. He turned to look at the man in the back seat.
"Brother Grant, what are we even doing here at Solstice? I don’t believe for a second you’re actually here to pick up a student!"
Leo Grant didn’t answer. His gaze drifted out the window, landing on an approaching car with a familiar license plate. A small smile played on his lips.
"The car from Lowell Manor? Here to pick up Genevieve, I bet," Nolan Crawford said, following his gaze.
Inside the other car, Yvonne Lowell watched her two brothers, who had been bickering the entire ride, with a growing headache. She finally cut them off.
"Stop. I’ll go get her myself. Neither of you is allowed to get out of the car! There, no more fighting, right?"
’Unbelievable. What was there even to argue about? It’s just picking up a kid from school.’
’One of them claimed the other’s disguise was too strange and would attract unwanted attention, while the other retorted that his brother was too nearsighted to see anyone clearly anyway.’
’What, was getting out of the car with her going to make them rich or something?’
’This wasn’t kindergarten, where you needed a pickup card and facial recognition, and had to take the child from the teacher’s hand, hold theirs, and coo softly,’
"’Time to go home, say bye-bye to teacher~’"
Seeing that they were about to say something else, Yvonne Lowell simply held up a hand.
"Shut up. I’m going. If I hear one more word, I’m going to get angry."
Yvonne Lowell pushed open the car door and walked toward the school gate.
The two brothers were left staring at each other. Harrison Lowell swallowed nervously.
"Third Brother, don’t you think Nola’s aura just now was terrifying? She was just like Eldest Brother."
"I think... she was scarier than Eldest Brother. Almost on par with Dad," Yancy Lowell admitted, also a bit frightened.
The brothers made eye contact for a split second before simultaneously looking away in disgust.
"Hmph."
Seeing the girl get out of her car, Leo Grant got out of his as well and walked in her direction.
"Hey! Brother Grant, wait for me!" Nolan Crawford hastily pushed his door open and chased after him.
Leo Grant walked up behind Yvonne Lowell. "Fancy meeting you here."
"Well now, handsome. Are you here to settle a score with me?"
Yvonne Lowell’s lips curled into a smile when she saw who it was.
’A quick glance back confirmed that the Lowell family car couldn’t see them from here. No wonder.’
Leo Grant chuckled. "Of course not. I’m just here with a friend to pick up his little brother. This is just a coincidence."
"Oh? So you really didn’t come all this way just to see me? I’ll be heartbroken."
Yvonne Lowell took a step forward, closing the distance between them.
Leo Grant looked down at the girl, who was a full head shorter than him.
"You’re right. I came to see you. Picking someone up was just an excuse."
Nolan Crawford, who was half a step behind, was so shocked he froze in place. ’Dude, aren’t you supposed to be afraid of women?’
’Is there even thirty centimeters between them? Has his body been snatched?!’
’Look at all these pink, sparkly heart bubbles in the air. And she called him "handsome"?’
’I gotta say, I’m kind of starting to ship you two.’
Feeling an intense stare, Yvonne Lowell turned her head, then looked back at Leo Grant with a confused expression that seemed to say:
’Who is this curly-haired poodle? Never seen him before. He looks a little dumb.’
Leo Grant somehow understood the meaning in her eyes. He glanced at Nolan Crawford. "Don’t mind him. He’s just an idiot."
Nolan Crawford: ’So? I’m just a tool in your seduction scheme, is that it?’
"Hi, little fluffball. I’m Nolan Crawford, Genevieve’s cousin. You used to call me big brother when we were kids, you know."
Nolan Crawford felt he had scored a point and shot a triumphant glance at Leo Grant.
Yvonne Lowell’s lips twitched. ’Little fluffball?? I could beat you until *you* swell up into a little white fluffball, believe it or not.’
"And I’m Genevieve’s older cousin. So how about you call me ’big sister’?"
Nolan Crawford was left speechless. "Hey, that’s not a very cute thing to say."
"Oh."
After saying that, Yvonne Lowell ignored him completely, leaving him to sulk with a contorted expression.
Watching the girl’s constantly shifting expressions, Leo Grant couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
’Tsk, he’s even more handsome when he laughs.’ Yvonne couldn’t help but stare, completely mesmerized, her eyes practically glued to him.
Leo Grant leaned down slightly, bringing his face closer to hers. "Am I that good-looking?"
"Mhm!"
"Then, will you give me the chance to take you to dinner?" His voice carried a hint of seduction.
’Oh, so this was his endgame?’
