Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Returning Home

Shortly after Luna Dawson returned to the country, major news that the container cargo at the Lockton port had been completely plundered instantly set off a global firestorm.

The entire nation of Meridia was thrown into a state of shock, and officials hastily called a press conference.

They not only strongly condemned the thieves’ "extremely malicious act of theft" but also announced the dispatch of a large number of police officers, criminal investigation experts, and personnel from the Department of Homeland Security to form a joint task force to thoroughly investigate this bizarre case.

The severity of the incident far exceeded anyone’s imagination.

The two thousand containers held goods from shippers all over the world, including everything from industrial equipment and daily necessities to precision parts. The value of the losses was incalculable.

Shippers from overseas quickly organized to voice their outrage.

They vehemently condemned the negligence and poor oversight of Meridia’s port security.

They demanded that Meridia’s government provide full compensation for their losses. Some countries even lodged diplomatic protests, pressuring Meridia to provide an explanation as soon as possible.

For a time, Meridia found itself in a difficult predicament.

The joint task force investigated for several days but found no fingerprints, footprints, or signs of transport at the scene.

The thousands of containers were still in place, but their contents had vanished into thin air, leaving no clues for the investigation.

The wave of condemnation from overseas continued unabated, while citizens at home questioned the nation’s security capabilities.

The shipping industry was embroiled in a storm of public opinion about all sorts of shady dealings. With various conflicts intertwined, the situation was a complete mess.

This bizarre theft was consequently added to Meridia’s top ten unsolved mysteries, and it remained unsolved even when the apocalypse arrived.

...

That afternoon, Luna Dawson groggily opened her eyes.

The sound of Little Tiger’s purring filled her ears. She scooped him into her arms, nuzzling him gently, and lingered in bed for a while longer before getting up to wash.

Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she saw her skin was fairer and her pores were smaller.

Even two old acne scars on her chin had vanished.

’The spirit spring water works so fast,’ she couldn’t help but marvel. ’I’ve saved a fortune on cosmetic procedures.’

Hearing the noise, Rollo came in, begging for pets. Luna worked both hands, giving the two little ones a good, even-handed scratching for a while.

She put on the glasses from her nightstand and bounded down the stairs.

"Mom, did you buy any durian? I didn’t see any when I was accepting the deliveries yesterday," Luna Dawson asked as soon as she got to the bottom of the stairs.

Rosalind Dawson replied with feigned annoyance, "I did, I did! I even ordered dozens of durian trees of several different varieties from overseas. They just haven’t arrived yet. I know you love them!"

Luna Dawson asked, "Where’s my brother?"

"Evan’s been discharged from the army and just got back to the village. The young folks went to set off firecrackers to welcome him. They’re probably eating, drinking, and celebrating over there. Do you want to go?"

Rosalind Dawson didn’t stop what she was doing, answering while trimming vegetables.

"Brother Evan? Oh! In my past life, I heard he went abroad... I’ll pass. They always smoke when they drink, and I just washed my hair. I’m not letting those stinky boys smoke it up."

Rosalind Dawson shot her a look. "Pah! Pah! Pah! What’s all this nonsense about a ’past life’? You make it sound like you’re a ghost! It’s fine if you don’t go. You can stay home and keep me company."

Luna Dawson chuckled. ’It feels so good to be lovingly nagged by my mom.’

"Mom, I need to go to the hospital in a few days. Will you come with me?"

Rosalind Dawson jumped up, dropping her basket of vegetables. "Were you injured overseas?!" she exclaimed, pulling Luna around to inspect her from all angles.

"No, no. I just want to get femtosecond laser surgery. My eyesight is terrible."

"You need to finish your sentences!"

Rosalind Dawson gave Luna Dawson’s butt a firm pat and walked into the kitchen.

In high spirits, Luna Dawson leaned back on the sofa, waiting for her meal. She grumbled, "Mom, this stupid sofa is so hard. I can’t even lie down on it. It’s so lumpy it makes my whole body ache. I’ve told you so many times we should replace it, but you never listen. I’m going to go wholesale a hundred sofas I like tomorrow!"

"I’ve been sitting on it my whole life without a problem. Did your butt mutate so you can’t sit on it? Besides, it’s perfect for our two little gods of wealth here. We don’t have to worry about their fur!"

"Yes, yes, yes~"

Luna Dawson opened her phone to look at the top international news and gasped.

’Holy cow. I clearly only took around two thousand containers of goods, but the report says over three thousand were stolen?!’

’Well, all right then!’

’Just great!’

Luna Dawson was completely dumbfounded.

’Well, it doesn’t really matter,’ she thought. ’In for a penny, in for a pound.’

She sent a message to Miles Dawson, telling him not to drink too much tonight because they were going to Kensington tomorrow to pick up his beloved new car.

The message made Miles Dawson so happy he could hardly contain himself. He boasted to his friends, "My mom really is the best. She gave me a goddess of a sister who buys me cars."

Evan Olson teased, "Don’t let a kind sister spoil a rotten brother."

Miles Dawson was incredibly smug. "Haha, you guys can be as jealous as you want!"

Martin Wright, sitting at the same table, said with a sly grin, "Your sister’s got you covered, so I guess I’ll try to cover your sister..."

Miles Dawson instantly exploded. "I thought you were my brother, and you want to hit on my sister?! A toad lusting after a swan’s flesh..."

The group of friends burst out laughing and roughhousing...

「Kensington.」

As soon as the siblings got off the plane, they headed straight for the 4S dealership.

The moment she met their sales consultant, Claire Wright, Luna Dawson got straight to the point: "I want to order fifty trucks with various load capacities, covering a wide range of models. I’ll pay in full."

Ever since she’d "freely acquired" so much stuff overseas, Luna Dawson had stopped worrying about spending money. She didn’t even bother to haggle much.

An order for fifty trucks, paid in full, immediately caught the attention of the dealership’s general manager.

He personally brought Claire Wright over to receive the siblings, his eyes full of curiosity.

He had long heard his employees mention this top-spending client, who was exceptionally generous. Seeing her in person today, he hadn’t expected her to be so young and beautiful.

He had even specially arranged for Melissa Sawyer to be sent out for off-site promotional work, afraid that the gossip would offend the major client and ruin this huge deal.

Facing the general manager’s enthusiastic reception, Luna Dawson was prepared. She smiled and offered an excuse, "I’m planning to open a logistics company here in Kensington. I’m stocking up on some trucks now so they’ll be ready when I start operations."

Her explanation was perfectly reasonable. It not only explained the bulk order but also paved the way for her to use these vehicles in the apocalypse to come.

After finalizing the models and delivery time, Luna Dawson promptly paid in full.

She then took out a warehouse key and handed it to Claire Wright. "Once the trucks arrive, just have them driven to this warehouse and parked there. When all the vehicles are squared away, you can mail the key to me."

Claire Wright took the key, nodding repeatedly. "Don’t worry, Miss Dawson. I’ll personally oversee the progress!"

She was ecstatic. ’With this one deal, I’ve already exceeded my annual sales quota. My bonus next month is going to be huge!’

After settling the truck order, Luna Dawson took Miles Dawson to the warehouse.

Following her usual procedure, she first cut the power to the warehouse to avoid leaving any unusual traces.

Then, with a single thought, she moved all the various outdoor supplies and assorted vehicle accessories from the warehouse into her space.

Miles Dawson stood to the side, quietly watching Luna Dawson collect the supplies. He looked like he wanted to say something but was holding back.

Luna Dawson noticed this. After storing the last batch of accessories, she turned to him and said, "Don’t hesitate. If you have something to say, just say it."

Miles Dawson scratched his head, his tone hesitant. "Sis, I was just wondering... since Brother Evan is back, should we... should we..."

Before he could finish, Luna Dawson’s expression grew distant.

She spoke slowly, "In my past life, Grandpa died of a sudden stroke on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival. After that, Brother Evan went abroad, and I never heard any news about him again."

"What?!" Miles Dawson’s face was instantly filled with shock, his eyes showing a sense of urgency. "Then what are we going to do?"

Seeing her brother’s panicked expression, Luna Dawson softened her tone to reassure him. "I can only try using the spirit spring water to help improve Grandpa’s health for now. Also, after we finish stockpiling seafood in the next few days, we’ll take him for a full physical exam to be prepared."

Hearing this, Miles Dawson was instantly reassured. He nodded emphatically. "Okay!"
