Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Zero-Dollar Shopping
The space behind her was far vaster than Luna Dawson had anticipated.
Shelves reached the ceiling. The first level was filled with AK-47s, M4 carbines, and Barrett sniper rifles, their bodies gleaming with a cold, hard metallic luster.
The second level was stacked with crates of rifle rounds and armor-piercing bullets.
Rain hammered on the warehouse’s corrugated iron roof with a THUMP THUMP sound that masked any subtle noises from the surroundings.
"You don’t waste any time, Miss Dawson."
House’s greedy eyes swept over the black suitcase of cash Luna Dawson carried, then traveled up and down her body. His gaze was slimy, as if she were prey he was about to devour.
He waved for his men to count the money. "As agreed—three hundred assault rifles, fifty sniper rifles, twenty heavy machine guns, and five hundred thousand rounds of ammunition. It’s all here."
As Luna Dawson bent down to check the firearms’ calibers, House gave a signal with his eyes. Four bodyguards instantly drew their weapons and aimed at her, while the surveillance cameras on the warehouse ceiling swiveled to face her.
"The US Dollars are tempting, but so is Miss Dawson. Why don’t you and the weapons just stay here?"
Luna Dawson was already prepared. She sidestepped to dodge a surprise attack from a bodyguard behind her, simultaneously drawing a pre-readied dagger from her waist and precisely slashing at the wrists of two other bodyguards.
Her movements were nimble and swift. Using the shelves as cover, she evaded the dense gunfire.
She grabbed a nearby M4 carbine and vanished into her space.
Seeing a living person disappear before their very eyes, the bodyguards were all stunned and bewildered. House was scared out of his wits.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, Luna Dawson suddenly reappeared, her eyes quickly locking onto their positions.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The instant she pulled the trigger, the bodyguards fell.
House turned and tried to flee to a hidden room deep inside the warehouse!
Luna Dawson took him down with a flying kick, then raised a hand and smashed the cameras inside the warehouse.
"Trying to double-cross me?"
Luna Dawson pressed the muzzle of the gun to his temple, her voice ice-cold. "Your warehouse... I’ll be taking it."
She forced House to hand over all his keys, gagged him, and tied his hands behind his back, securing him to a support pillar before pushing open the door to the hidden room.
The sight inside made her eyes light up!
Six tactical drones were parked quietly. Beside them lay ten RPGs, fifty military daggers, thirty sets of heavy-duty body armor, and twenty sets of night vision and thermal imaging goggles.
What was even more surprising was that on the helipad behind the warehouse, three Bell 407 helicopters sat ready to go.
Their fuselages had been reinforced with bulletproof plating and their fuel tanks expanded, giving them a range of up to 1,500 kilometers.
Luna Dawson no longer hesitated. After destroying all the surveillance cameras in the hidden room,
she waved her hand, and all the weapons and equipment, along with the two Hummers that House and his men had driven here, were all absorbed into her space.
The process took only a few minutes. The thousand-square-meter warehouse, once filled with weapons, was now completely empty.
Only the dumbfounded House was left, tied to the pillar.
She then took out several barrels of gasoline, poured them around the warehouse, and tossed a few bombs deep into the hidden room.
CLICK.
Luna Dawson flicked a lighter and tossed it behind her.
The lighter traced a graceful arc through the air before landing on the gasoline, which instantly erupted into meter-high flames.
Behind her, House’s almost hysterical howls echoed...
Luna Dawson turned, took out a car, slammed on the gas, and sped away.
About a kilometer away, the sound of the warehouse exploding echoed through the abandoned industrial park.
The downpour continued, as if trying to wash everything away.
She drove out of the abandoned industrial park, changed into a security guard’s uniform, put on height-increasing shoes and a hat, and headed straight for Lockport.
The rain was still pouring down. The roads were flooded in many places, with the deepest spots already submerging vehicles.
She decisively stopped the car, took an assault boat out of her space, started it in the turbulent floodwaters, and cut through the waves toward the port.
The night was ink-black. Violent winds and torrential rain ravaged the area. The wind at the port was even fiercer, and the raindrops felt like cold needles hitting her skin.
Her vision was blurred by the curtain of rain. Only the port’s lighthouse cast a dim, yellow halo on the sea’s surface, barely illuminating the waters ahead.
Most of the workers had already gone home for the day, with only a few security guards on patrol. The rain and darkness provided the perfect cover.
Luna Dawson used the assault boat to get close to the port, quietly disembarking in the shadows.
Crouching low, she infiltrated the port area, precisely avoiding the patrols and tapping her fingertips on one standardized shipping container after another.
She focused her mind, controlling her power. The massive containers, as if guided by an invisible hand, silently merged into her space one by one, without the slightest sound of collision or dragging.
The howling wind swept across the port, and the sound of rain hitting the containers completely concealed her actions.
After taking twenty full containers, she continued to roam around the port.
By touching the wall of one container, she remotely absorbed the contents of two thousand containers, leaving behind only a vast expanse of empty husks standing quietly in place.
"Totally worth it, this was so worth the trip!"
Luna Dawson’s eyes shone with a greedy light; she was getting completely carried away with her collecting.
If she weren’t worried about being discovered, she would have loved to take all ten thousand plus containers.
The entire collection process took over an hour. After confirming there were no traces left at the scene, she quickly left the port and returned to a warehouse.
The storm was still raging, flights were delayed, and Luna Dawson was stranded in Meridia.
She didn’t stay idle during this time. Taking advantage of the chaos, she also emptied out two large warehouse supermarkets.
「Two days later.」
The rain let up a bit, and flights resumed.
She immediately booked a flight back to her home country.
Luna Dawson took out a black, foreign-brand phone.
This was a phone she had someone buy for her after arriving in Lockton. It had a non-registered local SIM card, and she had left no personal information during the entire process.
She gathered her thoughts and her fingertips began to tap rapidly on the screen.
She detailed the major events that would happen in the next three months from her past life, her thorough apocalyptic theories, and the approximate location of the massive meteorite she had heard would fall.
She also included key information, such as the types of mutations in humans, animals, and plants after the apocalypse; how to awaken a superpower; and the fact that Crystal Cores could be upgraded. She organized all of this into an anonymous email addressed to all major relevant domestic departments.
Once the email was written, she found the scheduled send function and set it to send automatically in seventy-two hours. After confirming everything was correct, she logged out of the account and cleared all browsing history and activity logs from the phone.
She put the phone in a waterproof bag and placed it in a ventilation duct on the warehouse roof.
This spot would ensure a stable signal, was hidden and dry, and would not be easily discovered.
Then, she set off for Lockton International Airport.
Luna Dawson drove the car into an alley. After a quick look around to make sure no one was watching, she got out and quickly stored the car in her space.
Luna Dawson passed through security smoothly and waited anxiously in the departure lounge.
She didn’t dare to relax for a second, afraid that the thefts at the port and supermarkets would be traced back to her. She was also worried that the gang behind House would find some clue.
While waiting, Luna Dawson hugged her arms tightly, her thoughts running wild.
After what felt like an eternity, she finally boarded the flight home.
It happened to be a red-eye flight, so the entire journey was quiet.
On the surface, Luna Dawson calmly put on an eye mask and pretended to rest, but inwardly, her anxiety was churning without end.
Her mind was racing with wild thoughts.
’Will the plane be forced to land in another country?’
’Will agents or mercenaries storm the plane to capture me?’
Throughout the entire flight, she couldn’t sleep or eat.
In her mind, she had already played out several scenarios of head-on confrontations with foreign agents and mercenaries...
After a thirteen-hour flight and a layover of several hours for a domestic transfer, Luna Dawson finally set foot in Southen.
She took a deep breath. "It’s so good to be home! Even the air back home is sweet!"
Remembering that she had been abroad for a week and her warehouse was full of goods she had ordered, she immediately took a taxi to the warehouse.
The warehouse manager had already left for the day, and the main gate was shut tight.
Luna Dawson quickly opened the door. With a thought, she moved the warehouse full of goods into her space, then took out a car and got in.
As the car drove out of the logistics park, Luna Dawson looked at the familiar street scenes and couldn’t help but sigh in relief.
After being on edge for a week abroad, she could finally, truly relax.
