Chapter 7: Mana Arts

There were three fundamental Mana Arts.

Enforcement, which coated the body with mana to strengthen physical abilities.

Field, which released mana around the user to improve their awareness of their surroundings.

And Flash, a movement technique that used mana to increase speed.

Every humans were taught these techniques at the academy.

Kaiser had already mastered all three.

Today, however, he wanted to practice the next step.

Weapon Coating.

He slowly closed his eyes and gathered the small amount of mana remaining inside his body.

Little by little, he guided it toward the wooden sword in his hand, trying to coat the entire blade with mana and increase its cutting power.

The process was far more difficult than coating his own body.

Mana naturally flowed through the human body.

A weapon, however, was an external object.

To keep mana attached to it, he had to maintain complete control every second.

The moment his concentration slipped, the mana scattered into the air.

Kaiser wasn’t discouraged.

He gathered the mana again.

A thin layer of pale blue light appeared around the wooden sword.

It lasted for less than a second before disappearing.

He tried again.

And failed again.

After dozens of attempts, he finally managed to keep the mana around the blade for three whole seconds.

"Better."

He adjusted his grip and continued practicing.

He wasn’t trying to make the coating stronger yet.

His current goal was simply stability.

Minutes passed.

Then an hour.

His control gradually improved.

The mana no longer leaked away as quickly as before.

Instead of covering the entire sword at once, he learned to coat one section at a time.

First the tip.

Then the edge.

Finally the entire blade.

Although the coating was still thin and unstable, it no longer disappeared instantly.

Sweat slowly formed on his forehead.

His breathing became heavier.

His nearly empty mana pool recovered little by little while he rested between attempts, allowing him to continue practicing.

By sunset, he could maintain the coating for almost twenty seconds.

It still wasn’t suitable for real combat, but it was steady enough for training.

Kaiser swung the wooden sword a few times.

Each swing felt slightly heavier, yet much sharper.

The mana coating reinforced the weapon, making even an ordinary wooden sword feel more dangerous.

He smiled in satisfaction.

"I’ve made some progress."

He dismissed the mana surrounding the sword and stretched his tired arms.

Although today’s improvement wasn’t huge, every bit of progress mattered.

If he kept practicing every day, Weapon Coating would eventually become as natural to him as breathing.

After putting the practice sword away, he went back inside the house.

He took a shower, ate a simple dinner, and checked the timer on his bonded beast one last time.

Time Until Hatching: 10 Hours 51 Minutes.

"It’ll hatch tomorrow morning."

With that thought, Kaiser lay down on his bed.

His mind was filled with thoughts about Reconstruction, Cosmic, and the mysterious Golden Fate Goblin King.

Before long, he fell asleep, waiting for the arrival of his first true companion.

The night passed peacefully.

When Kaiser opened his eyes the next morning, the first thing he did was summon his Cosmic Sheet.

His gaze immediately fell on the Bond section.

Time Until Hatching: 00:00:00

The countdown had ended.

At the same moment, he felt a warm sensation spread through his chest.

A golden light appeared in front of him.

It slowly gathered into a floating sphere about the size of a basketball.

Crack.

A small crack appeared on the shell.

Then another.

Within a few seconds, the entire shell was covered in fine golden lines.

Kaiser watched quietly.

The shell finally broke apart.

Tiny fragments of light floated into the air before disappearing.

A small figure slowly emerged.

It was barely thirty centimeters tall.

Its skin was golden instead of the usual green seen on ordinary goblins.

It had large round eyes, pointed ears, and short golden hair.

A tiny golden crown rested on its head.

The little goblin stretched its arms and looked around the room curiously.

The moment its eyes landed on Kaiser, its face lit up.

With a cheerful smile, it jumped off the floating shell and landed on the bed.

It quickly ran toward him.

"Ki!"

Without any hesitation, it climbed onto Kaiser’s shoulder and rubbed its face against his cheek.

Kaiser laughed.

"So you’re my partner."

The little goblin nodded enthusiastically.

"Ki! Ki!"

Kaiser gently patted its head.

The moment he touched it, another notification appeared.

Bonded Beast Successfully Hatched.

Bond Ability Unlocked.

Shared Skills Available.

At the same time, memories and instincts from the little goblin flowed through their bond.

Kaiser could vaguely sense its emotions.

Curiosity.

Happiness.

Trust.

And excitement.

It already treated him as the most important person in the world.

The little goblin suddenly jumped off his shoulder and looked around the room.

Its eyes quickly stopped on an old copper coin lying on the desk.

It ran over, picked it up, and happily brought it back to Kaiser.

"Ki!"

Kaiser accepted the coin with a smile.

"Is this a gift?"

The little goblin nodded proudly.

Kaiser couldn’t help chuckling.

"Thank you."

He smiled and carefully slipped the coin into his pocket, even though it had originally been his own.

The little goblin happily hopped around the room before returning to its broken eggshell.

It picked up a piece and began happily munching on it.

Kaiser simply let it be.

He knew that many newborn magical beasts ate their own eggshells after hatching.

The shells contained nutrients and mana that helped strengthen their bodies during their first few hours of life.

Leaving his new companion to enjoy its meal, Kaiser turned his attention back to his Cosmic Sheet.

He opened the Bond section once again.

This time, the previously locked information had been completely unlocked.
