Chapter 38: Battle Royale
Chapter 38: Battle Royale
As Kaiser walked through the forest, he used one of his skill.
"Familiar Call."
A gray magic circle appeared in front of him.
Soul Mana gathered inside it before a large bird emerged.
It had dark gray feathers with faint silver patterns across its wings. Its sharp blue eyes calmly scanned the surroundings.
This was Kaiser’s contracted familiar.
A Deathstorm Hawk.
The hawk landed gracefully on his arm.
Kaiser smiled.
"Rite."
The hawk let out a soft cry in response.
"Fly as high as you can."
"Keep watch over the area."
"If anyone comes within a mile of me, let me know immediately."
The Deathstorm Hawk nodded before spreading its enormous wings.
With a single flap, it shot into the sky.
Within seconds, it disappeared into the clouds.
Although it had become almost invisible from the ground, Kaiser could still faintly sense its presence through their contract.
Through their spiritual connection, he could even receive the information it gathered.
"This is exactly why I chose this guy."
He smiled faintly.
"It isn’t just a combat familiar."
"It’s an excellent scout."
The Deathstorm Hawk possessed incredibly sharp eyesight and could detect movement from an enormous distance.
More importantly, it could also attack.
By combining Death Mana with Wind Mana, it could unleash powerful Deathstorm attacks.
Very few Tier 0 familiars possessed both scouting and combat abilities.
Even contracting Rite had not been easy.
The Deathstorm Hawk was naturally proud and extremely difficult to tame.
Without his perfect Death affinity and the blessing of the Mark of the Tomb, it would have taken him far longer to earn the hawk’s recognition.
Satisfied, Kaiser continued walking through the forest while Rite silently watched over everything from high above.
Satisfied, Kaiser continued walking through the forest.
He maintained a steady pace, carefully observing his surroundings.
There was no need to use any other sensory spell.
Rite was already watching the area from high above.
Through their contract, the Deathstorm Hawk would immediately alert him if it spotted another student or any danger within its range.
That allowed Kaiser to conserve his Mana.
He only intended to cast spells when they were truly necessary.
There was no reason to waste magical energy at the beginning of a battle royale.
The longer he preserved his Mana, the greater his advantage would become if a real fight broke out.
As he walked, Kaiser quietly memorized the terrain.
A small stream flowed through the forest.
Large boulders were scattered across the area.
Several hills provided good vantage points, while the dense trees offered plenty of places to hide.
Every piece of information could become useful later.
Kaiser wasn’t in a hurry to find opponents.
For now, gathering information and preserving his strength was the smarter choice.
He calmly continued deeper into the forest while Rite silently circled high above, keeping watch over everything within a one-mile radius.

"What a bore."
Leoness mumbled with a mouthful of ice cream as she looked at the large screen.
Kaiser was lying comfortably on top of a boulder, quietly resting.
She shook her head.
"Almost everyone else is fighting."
"The number of students has already dropped from forty to just twenty-six."
"But he still hasn’t encountered a single opponent."
"This kid is blessed with both talent and luck."
She sighed before shifting her attention to another screen.
A young man with short pink-blonde hair was engaged in a fierce battle.
A long silver flame sword flashed through the air.
Slash!
His opponent was cut into two before disappearing into particles of light, signifying defeat.
The young man didn’t show the slightest change in expression.
He simply turned around and walked away as if nothing had happened.
Leoness frowned.
"As expected of the Black Star Clan."
"They’re all cold-hearted bastards."
Leoness shifted her attention to the remaining screens.
The strongest students were already beginning to stand out.
On one screen, a tall girl wielding a massive black spear calmly fought three opponents at once.
Every thrust of her spear was precise.
Within moments, all three students were defeated.
She belonged to the Death Knight Path.
On another screen, a pale young man raised his hand.
Several dark curses spread across the battlefield.
His opponents suddenly became weak and slow before collapsing one after another.
He walked away without looking back.
He was a Curse Master.
Another screen showed a quiet girl surrounded by dozens of ghostly spirits.
The spirits flew around her before diving toward nearby students.
Anyone touched by them immediately lost the will to fight.
She was a Spirit Priest.
Nearby, a young man stood behind several large undead beasts.
He never attacked personally.
Instead, he calmly commanded his undead to overwhelm every opponent.
He followed the Necromancer Path.
Another student wore dark green robes covered with strange symbols.
He casually scattered gray powder across the ground.
Within seconds, poisonous vines grew from the earth and trapped several students.
He belonged to the Plague Master Path.
The final screen showed a girl calmly walking through the forest with a black wolf beside her.
The wolf silently hunted for enemies while she simply followed behind.
She was a Beast Tamer of the Death Path.
Leoness nodded to herself.
"Not bad."
"This year’s students are much stronger than the previous batch."
Her eyes then drifted back to Kaiser’s screen.
He was still calmly resting on the boulder while his Deathstorm Hawk circled high above the clouds.
Leoness couldn’t help shaking her head again.
"You’re either incredibly patient..."
"Or incredibly lazy."
Leoness suddenly sat up straight.
Her eyes locked onto Kaiser’s screen.
A faint smile appeared on her face.
"Finally."
Three different groups of students were moving through the forest.
By pure coincidence, all of them were heading toward Kaiser’s location.
None of them had noticed each other yet.
But if they continued walking at the same pace, they would all arrive within a few minutes.
Leoness put down her bowl of ice cream.
"Now this is getting interesting."
She rested her chin on one hand and focused entirely on the screen.
"Show me what you can do."
"Bearer of the Mark of the Tomb."
"I want to see how extraordinary a Divine Mark of that level really is."
