Chapter 36: Month Later
A terrifying wave of holy power exploded from her body.
Boom!
Golden light flooded the entire palace.
Cracks raced across the pristine marble floor.
The enormous pillars trembled.
Outside the audience chamber, countless priests and holy knights suddenly froze.
The overwhelming pressure forced every one of them to their knees.
Fear spread across the Holy City as people instinctively looked toward the palace.
"The Pope..."
"...is furious."
The terrifying pressure continued for several more seconds before Theodore forced himself to speak.
Still kneeling, he lowered his head until it touched the floor.
"Your Holiness..."
"I will correct my mistake."
"I’ll infiltrate the Church of Death if I have to."
"I’ll personally eliminate the bearer of the Mark of the Tomb."
"Even if it costs me my life."
"I swear I won’t fail again."
The hall fell silent.
Sariel looked at him for a long moment.
Then, to Theodore’s surprise, a faint smile appeared on her face.
The overwhelming pressure filling the hall instantly disappeared.
Everyone outside the audience chamber let out a sigh of relief.
Theodore slowly raised his head in confusion.
"Your Holiness...?"
Sariel stepped down from her throne and walked toward him.
She stopped directly in front of him.
Without saying a word, she gently placed her hand on his head.
A warm golden light flowed into his body.
The pain from his severed arms immediately disappeared.
Although his arms did not regenerate, his bleeding stopped completely, and his injuries stabilized.
She smiled faintly.
"You should have said that from the beginning."
Theodore looked at her in disbelief.
"You... still trust me?"
Sariel withdrew her hand.
"I trust your determination."
"But determination alone is not enough."
She turned around and walked back toward her throne.
"You will not act recklessly again."
"You will wait."
"You will gather information."
"You will earn their trust if possible."
"And only when the opportunity is absolutely certain..."
"Will you make your move."
Theodore lowered his head.
"I understand, Your Holiness."
Sariel gave a small nod.
"Good."
"You are dismissed."
Theodore respectfully bowed once more before quietly leaving the audience hall.
As the massive doors closed behind him, Sariel leaned back on her throne.
She picked up her book again as if nothing had happened.
A quiet hum escaped her lips while she resumed reading.
The peaceful smile on her face made it impossible to believe she had nearly crushed one of her own priests with her aura only moments earlier.
One Month Later...
Kaiser had now mastered every spell he had learned.
The Mark of the Tomb not only granted him access to the Necromancy Path, but also blessed him with extraordinary talent in all forms of Death and Soul magic.
In this world, spell mastery was divided into five levels:
Beginner → Adept → Master → Grandmaster → Perfection.
To Kaiser’s surprise, he had reached the Perfection level with all four of his spells in just one month.
Even he found it hard to believe.
However, after speaking with Magnus, he learned that this was one of the hidden blessings of the Mark of the Tomb. Those chosen by the mark possessed an almost unparalleled talent for Death arts, allowing them to comprehend and master related spells at an astonishing speed.
Standing outside the academy dormitory, Kaiser quietly extended his hand.
A small bird gently landed on his palm.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Did you eat enough?"
The little bird happily chirped before rubbing its head against his fingers.
Kaiser gently stroked its feathers while carefully observing it.
"The Flames of the Soulless are truly incredible."
"Even with my perfect affinity for Death and Souls..."
"Even I can’t tell that you’re actually undead."
His gaze lingered on the tiny creature.
It was the very first being he had converted using Flames of the Soulless.
The Ghostfire had completely devoured the bird’s soul before recreating it as one of his Soulless.
Unlike ordinary undead raised through Necromancy, it looked no different from a living creature.
Its feathers were smooth and vibrant.
Its eyes were bright and full of life.
Its body was warm.
There was no smell of decay.
No exposed bones.
No trace of Death Mana leaking from its body.
From head to tail, it looked like an ordinary bird.
No one would ever suspect that it was actually an undead.
Kaiser smiled as the bird happily chirped again.
"I guess that’s why you’re called a Soulless."
He gently rubbed its little head, earning another cheerful chirp in response.
The bird had become his very first Soulless.
His first loyal servant created by the Ghostfire.
"The undead created by this talent is something else..."
Kaiser murmured.
"They’re completely different from ordinary undead."
"As expected of an SS-Rank Talent."
The bird flapped its wings and flew onto his shoulder.
Kaiser glanced at the large clock hanging outside the dormitory.
"Today’s finally the first day of class."
He straightened the collar of his black academy uniform before walking out.
Just then...
Ring!
The academy bell echoed throughout the entire campus.
Students immediately began leaving the dormitories and making their way toward the classroom buildings.
Kaiser blended into the crowd and calmly walked toward his classroom, ready to begin his first day at the Death Academy.
The academy grounds were already bustling with students.
Some walked alone while reading books.
Others chatted with their friends as they headed toward their classrooms.
Many had their contracted spirits, undead, or familiars following behind them.
To Kaiser, it was an unusual but interesting sight.
A skeleton carrying a student’s books walked beside its owner.
Nearby, a small ghost floated above a girl’s shoulder while quietly reading the same textbook she held.
A black wolf with glowing blue eyes lazily followed another student.
No one paid them any attention.
Everything felt completely normal.
As Kaiser continued walking, he finally arrived in front of a large three-story building.
A silver plaque above the entrance read:
First-Year Building
He stepped inside.
The hallways were wide and clean, with students entering different classrooms.
Small signs beside each door displayed the class numbers.
After checking the paper Magnus had given him yesterday, Kaiser found his classroom.
Class 1-A
He pushed the door open and walked inside.
The classroom was already half full.
Around thirty students were chatting while waiting for the lesson to begin.
Some noticed Kaiser entering and briefly glanced at him before returning to their conversations.
Very few people knew who he was.
His identity had been kept secret by the Church of Death.
Only the academy’s highest-ranking staff knew that he possessed the Mark of the Tomb.
