Chapter 34: Choosing Spells III

Magnus smiled.

"So don’t rush."

"Choose carefully."

"The first spells you engrave into your Divine Mark will become the foundation of your future."

Kaiser took a deep breath before turning his attention to the remaining spell books.

"Then..."

"Let’s see what other spells are available."

He picked up the first remaining Tier 1 spell.

Tier 1: Undead Creation

Creates a suitable undead from the chosen corpse.

"A reliable necromancer spell," Magnus nodded.

" Can help you create temporary or permanent undead"

The second book was called:

Tier 1: Death Chains

Summons chains forged from Death Mana that bind enemies and slowly drain their vitality.

"A control spell. Very useful against fast opponents."

The final Tier 1 spell was:

Tier 1: Corpse Explosion

Detonates a corpse infused with Death Mana, dealing heavy damage to all nearby enemies.

"It becomes much stronger once you command a large undead army," Magnus said.

Kaiser then moved on to the Tier 0 spell books.

There were nine of them.

Bone Arrow – Creates a sharp bone projectile.

Bone Armor – Covers the body with protective bone plates.

Death Mist – Releases a small cloud of Death Mana that weakens nearby enemies.

Soul Bolt – Fires a bolt of Soul Mana that damages the target’s soul.

Dark Vision – Allows the user to see clearly in complete darkness.

Mana Sense – Detects nearby mana fluctuations.

Corpse Preservation – Preserves corpses from decaying, making them suitable for Necromancy.

Spirit Whisper – Allows simple communication with wandering souls.

Minor Curse – Places a weak curse on a target, slightly reducing its physical abilities.

Kaiser quietly read through every spell, carefully considering which ones would best suit the path he wanted to create.

Magnus had already recommended three spells—two Tier 1 spells and one Tier 0 spell.

That meant he still had five Spell Slots remaining.

Now I can either take two more Tier 1 spells and one Tier 0 spell...

Or simply learn five Tier 0 spells.

Kaiser thought about it for a few moments.

In the end, his eyes settled on a single book.

It was titled:

Undead Creation

He picked it up.

"For now, I’ll just take this one."

Magnus nodded approvingly.

"A wise choice."

"You can always learn the other spells later."

"Your foundation is more important than filling every Spell Slot."

Kaiser nodded.

"How do I learn them?"

Magnus smiled.

"It’s simple."

"Place your hand on the cover of the spell book."

"Then channel your Mana into it."

"The Divine Mark will do the rest."

"The spell will automatically engrave itself into one of your empty Spell Slots."

Kaiser did exactly as instructed.

He placed his hand on the first book.

Spectral Hands.

A stream of pale gray Mana flowed from his palm into the book.

The pages began glowing before dissolving into countless tiny particles of light.

Those particles entered the Divine Mark on his forehead.

Kaiser immediately felt one of his empty Spell Slots become occupied.

Without stopping, he repeated the process.

Spectral Blade.

Familiar Call.

Undead Creation.

One book after another disappeared into streams of light.

When the process finished, Kaiser closed his eyes.

Inside his Divine Mark, he saw seven of the ten silver stars glowing brightly.

Each one now contained a different spell.

He slowly opened his eyes.

"So this is how spell engraving feels."

Magnus smiled.

"You’ve officially become a true spellcaster."

Kaiser raised his hand.

"Spectral Hands."

A ripple of Soul Mana spread through the room.

A translucent, wrinkled hand appeared in midair.

It looked like the hand of an ancient ghost.

The hand slowly opened and closed its fingers before floating beside him.

Kaiser smiled.

"It feels like moving my own hand."

Magnus nodded.

"Naturally."

"The spell is directly connected to your soul."

He continued,

"Every spell has five levels of mastery."

"Level 1 is Beginner."

"Level 2 is Basic."

"Level 3 is Intermediate."

"Level 4 is Advanced."

"Level 5 is Master."

"The more you practice, the higher your mastery becomes."

"The stronger, faster, and more efficient the spell will be."

Kaiser nodded in understanding.

He dismissed the Spectral Hand with a thought.

Magnus then looked at the clock on the wall.

"The academy begins in one month."

"Until then, you’re free to familiarize yourself with your spells and practice them."

He rang a small silver bell on his desk.

A few seconds later, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

The door opened.

A beautiful young woman walked inside.

She wore the black uniform of the academy, and a silver badge was pinned to her chest.

She had long silver hair tied into a ponytail and sharp golden eyes.

Magnus smiled.

"This is Leoness Rim."

"She is one of the academy’s instructors."

"She’ll show you to your dormitory."

Leoness gave a respectful nod.

"Understood, Principal."

Kaiser stood up.

"Thank you for everything."

Magnus smiled.

"We’ll continue your lessons tomorrow."

Kaiser nodded before following Leoness out of the office.

The two walked through the academy’s long corridors.

For a while, neither of them spoke.

The atmosphere remained quiet.

After several minutes, Leoness finally glanced at him.

"So..."

"You’re the child who awakened the Mark of the Tomb."

Kaiser nodded.

"Yes."

Leoness looked at him for a moment before smiling faintly.

"Welcome to the Death Academy."

Kaiser nodded politely.

"Thank you."

Leoness continued walking.

"The Death Academy currently has over thirty thousand students."

"We accept students from every kingdom that follows the God of Death."

"Some are commoners."

"Some are nobles."

"But once they enter the academy, everyone is treated equally."

Kaiser listened quietly.

"There are no special privileges?"

Leoness shook her head.

"None."

"Only your results matter."

"Your talent may open the door."

"But your hard work determines how far you go."

They walked across a large courtyard.

Hundreds of students could be seen training.

Some practiced swordsmanship against undead dummies.

Others cast spells at moving targets.

Nearby, several skeletons carried heavy training equipment while instructors supervised the students.

Kaiser looked around with interest.

"The academy is much larger than I expected."
