Chapter 30: Death Church II
Chapter 30: Death Church II
Kaiser silently read the entire description twice.
The more he read, the more shocked he became.
"This..."
"This is far stronger than I expected."
He focused on the first effect again.
"Ghostfire Conversion."
"So as long as the target is completely burned by the Ghostfire..."
"I can turn it into my own undead servant."
He rubbed his chin.
"Unlike Raise Skeleton, I don’t need bones."
"I can directly convert living creatures after killing them."
His eyes moved to the next effect.
"Soul Devourer."
"It attacks the soul itself."
"That means physical armor won’t be very useful against it."
"It should also be extremely effective against ghosts and spiritual creatures."
Kaiser nodded.
"Very powerful."
He continued reading.
"Living Ghostfire."
"I can create Ghostfire Wisps that fight on their own."
"They can search for enemies."
"They can spread the flames."
"And I can even use them to scout."
A smile slowly appeared on his face.
"That alone is worth an SS-Rank Talent."
He then looked at the next effect.
He then looked at the next effect.
"Undead Legion."
"The Soulless only retain half of their original strength."
"But they also keep half of their original abilities."
"That means if I kill a mage..."
"I’ll obtain an undead mage."
"If I kill a swordsman..."
"I’ll gain an undead swordsman."
"If I kill a beast..."
"I’ll gain an undead beast."
He nodded in satisfaction.
"It gives me a very flexible army."
His eyes moved to the next effect.
"Flame Network."
"I can share the senses of every Ghostfire Wisp and every Soulless."
"That’s an incredible scouting ability."
"I won’t have to personally explore dangerous places anymore."
He continued.
"Soul Fuel."
"Every soul I devour restores my Mana."
"And it also strengthens my existing undead."
"So the longer a battle lasts..."
"The stronger my army becomes."
Finally, he looked at the last effect.
"Flame Evolution."
"The Ghostfire itself can continue evolving."
"It has growth potential."
Kaiser slowly closed the status window.
"So this Talent doesn’t just create undead."
"It also grows stronger together with me."
"It can evolve endlessly."
He let out a slow breath.
"No wonder it’s SS-Rank."
"It deserves that rank."
He looked out at the endless clouds as the woman continued flying through the sky.
"So my class specializes in traditional Necromancy."
"And my Talent creates an entirely different kind of undead."
"The two abilities complement each other perfectly."
"I can raise Skeletons with my class."
"And create Soulless with my Talent."
"If I develop both together..."
"My army will become much stronger than an ordinary Necromancer’s."
A smile appeared on his face.
"This Nightmare Trial..."
"May end up being a huge opportunity instead of a danger."
Kaiser kept looking outside.
The endless mountains gradually disappeared.
In their place stood an enormous black city stretching to the horizon.
Unlike ordinary cities, there were no walls surrounding it.
Instead, towering pillars carved from black stone stood around its borders.
Each pillar was covered with countless silver runes that glowed faintly.
As they flew closer, Kaiser noticed thousands of people moving through the streets below.
There were merchants selling goods, adventurers wearing dark armor, priests dressed in black robes, and countless ordinary citizens living their daily lives.
To his surprise, everyone looked completely normal.
There was no panic.
No fear.
No armies of undead wandering through the streets like he had imagined.
The city looked peaceful.
At the very center stood a colossal black citadel.
It resembled a giant fortress more than a church.
Its walls were built from smooth black stone that reflected the sunlight like polished obsidian.
Tall silver windows lined every floor.
Countless violet crystals of different sizes were embedded throughout the structure.
They continuously emitted gentle waves of Death Mana.
Silver runes covered almost every wall, pillar, and tower.
Rather than making the building look sinister, they gave it an ancient and majestic appearance.
The entire citadel radiated an overwhelming aura.
Kaiser couldn’t help staring at it.
"So that’s the Church of Death..."
The woman smiled.
"Not quite."
"That’s the Cathedral of Death."
"It’s the heart of the city."
She pointed toward the sprawling city beneath them.
"Welcome to the Holy City of Death."
"Necropolis."
Kaiser’s eyes widened slightly.
"So this entire city belongs to the Church of Death?"
The woman nodded.
"Yes."
"It has existed for more than eight thousand years."
"It is the birthplace of countless Necromancers, Soul Mages, Spirit Priests, and Death Knights."
As they descended lower, Kaiser noticed something even more surprising.
People and undead were walking side by side.
A skeleton carrying several wooden crates followed a merchant.
Nearby, a zombie carefully watered flowers growing beside a house.
A ghost floated above a library entrance, quietly guiding visitors inside.
None of the citizens paid them any attention.
It was as normal as seeing horses pulling carts.
Kaiser blinked.
"I didn’t expect this."
The woman chuckled.
"What did you expect?"
"An army of monsters chasing people through the streets?"
Kaiser scratched his cheek.
"Something like that."
She laughed.
"Undead are tools."
"They serve the living."
"They build houses."
"They transport goods."
"They guard the city."
"They work in dangerous places where living people would be injured."
"To us, they’re no different than magical constructs."
Kaiser slowly nodded.
"So the rumors outside are completely different from reality."
"They usually are."
The woman sighed.
"The Church of Light has spent centuries spreading fear about us."
"They call us monsters."
"They call our city cursed."
"But once people actually visit..."
"They usually realize the truth."
As they spoke, they landed in front of the enormous black cathedral.
The massive entrance slowly opened by itself.
Several priests and priestesses dressed in elegant black robes were already waiting outside.
The moment they saw the woman, they respectfully bowed.
"Welcome back, Lady Rihana."
Rihana smiled and nodded.
"I’ve brought back our newest child."
She gently pushed Kaiser forward.
"He awakened the Mark of the Tomb."
The expressions of every priest immediately changed.
Their eyes widened with surprise before quickly turning into warm smiles.
One elderly priest stepped forward.
"So..."
"Another child has finally received the Mark of the Tomb."
He looked at Kaiser kindly.
"Welcome home, child."
