Chapter 15: Slave

Inside, however, her thoughts were completely different.

If I’m going to die... I’ll drag you down with me.

"You’re lying," Kaiser replied without hesitation.

He couldn’t imagine Alex ever doing something like that.

"I’m not!" Marina said desperately. "Just think about it. Alex now has a Rank 8 Beast. Why would someone like him keep a useless burden around? You’re nothing but his embarrassing past."

She quickly continued.

"I can even help you kill him. My poison is incredibly powerful. It didn’t work on you for some reason, but it will definitely work on Alex."

Kaiser remained silent.

Did Alex really send her to kill me?

The thought crossed his mind for a brief moment.

No...

He wouldn’t.

Alex is my best friend. I know him. He could never do something like this.

But memories from his previous life surfaced in his mind.

Stories of friends betraying each other for power, wealth, and status.

Although he refused to believe Marina, a tiny seed of doubt had still been planted.

After a long silence, Kaiser let out a sigh.

"I’ll know the truth soon enough."

He picked up the Slave Contract.

Marina’s eyes widened in horror as she realized what he intended to do.

"No... wait!"

She tried to crawl backward.

Without hesitation, Kaiser swung his sword.

Slash!

"AAAHHH!"

Her right hand was severed cleanly.

Ignoring her screams, Kaiser collected the blood flowing from the wound and dripped it onto the Slave Contract.

The parchment immediately glowed with a crimson light.

A large blood-red magic circle appeared beneath Marina.

Moments later, countless crimson chains erupted from the circle and wrapped around her body before piercing into her flesh.

Marina screamed in agony for several seconds before suddenly falling silent.

The chains disappeared.

The magic circle faded.

When Marina slowly raised her head again...

The hatred in her eyes had vanished completely.

She looked at Kaiser with absolute loyalty.

"Master."

"What are your orders?"

The Slave Contract was a terrifying magical item.

Once activated, it completely rewrote the victim’s loyalty.

Even if the master ordered the slave to kill their own parents or children, they would obey without hesitation.

Kaiser looked at her expressionlessly.

"Tell me the truth."

"Why did you try to kill me?"

If not for Light of Purification, he would have been completely paralyzed by her poison and would likely be dead by now.

I also need to find a skill that can counter slavery-type items, Kaiser thought.

If someone ever uses one on me, Light of Purification might not be enough.

Marina answered honestly without the slightest hesitation.

"I was greedy."

"I thought that if I enslaved you, I could force you to introduce me to Alex as your girlfriend. With your recommendation, Alex would definitely allow me to join his guild."

"So... Alex never ordered you to kill me?"

"No, Master."

"I acted entirely on my own."

Kaiser let out a quiet sigh of relief.

I knew it.

Alex would never do something like that.

Looking down at the kneeling Marina, he began thinking.

What should I do with her now?

Killing her wasn’t a good option.

If she died inside the Slime Dungeon, the incident would likely trigger an investigation.

After all, she hadn’t been killed by monsters.

Then another thought crossed his mind.

Wait...

I could use her as a test subject.

If Reconstruction succeeds, I’ll gain a capable subordinate.

If it fails... then it’s simply the consequence of her own actions.

His expression remained cold.

"Heal yourself."

"Yes, Master."

Marina immediately took out a healing potion from her storage ring and drank it.

A warm green glow covered her body.

Within moments, both of Marina’s severed limbs had completely regenerated.

"It was a Rare-grade Healing Potion," Marina explained respectfully.

"I made them myself."

There was a hint of pride in her voice.

Kaiser looked at her in surprise.

"You brewed these yourself?"

"Yes, Master."

She looked at him expectantly.

"Would you like some?"

A faint smile appeared on Kaiser’s face.

Interesting...

She’s even more useful than I thought.

He nodded.

"Give them to me."

"Yes, Master."

Without the slightest hesitation, Marina handed him six Rare-grade Healing Potions along with dozens of other potions of various types from her storage ring.

As Kaiser stored them away, another question crossed his mind.

"So, is your talent related to alchemy?"

Marina shook her head.

"No, Master."

"My talent isn’t related to alchemy. It’s because of my hidden class, Runic Alchemist."

Kaiser’s eyes widened.

"A hidden class?"

"How did you obtain one this early in the game?"

Marina nodded.

"I discovered a hidden challenge inside the Black Bone Graveyard."

Seeing Kaiser’s interest, she continued explaining.

"The Black Bone Graveyard contains four special tombs scattered throughout the dungeon."

"Each of the four minibosses drops a unique skeleton bone."

"If you collect all four bones and place them on their corresponding tombs, a hidden portal will appear."

"The portal leads to a hidden class trial."

"There are multiple difficulty levels for the challenge."

"I only chose the Easy difficulty because I wasn’t confident I could defeat the boss on a higher setting."

Kaiser nodded thoughtfully.

The Black Bone Graveyard was another low Rank 0 Dungeon Gate designed for players between Levels 1 and 25, filled with undead monsters.

So there’s a hidden class quest there...

No wonder nobody had discovered it yet.

"Hmm."

"I’ll head there after I’m done here."

Marina immediately nodded.

"Don’t worry, Master."

"I know the fastest method to unlock the hidden challenge."

"I’ll guide you there."

Kaiser nodded in satisfaction.

"Good."

"For now, just follow me," Kaiser said.

"Yes, Master."

Marina nodded obediently and faithfully followed behind him.

Kaiser soon arrived at a secluded area deep within the forest, far away from other players.

After searching for a few minutes, he easily found his target.

An Earth Slime.

Unlike the other slimes, its body was covered by a thick brown layer of hardened earth, giving it excellent defensive capabilities.

Earth Slimes were the slowest and weakest among all slime variants.

They rarely attacked their enemies.

Instead, they instinctively retreated into their thick earthen shells and relied on their incredible durability to withstand incoming attacks.

It was the perfect creature for his experiment.
