Chapter 16: Evolution

After capturing the Earth Slime, Kaiser turned to Marina.

"Go stand guard."

"Make sure no one comes anywhere near this place."

"Yes, Master."

Marina immediately left and took up a position several dozen meters away, carefully watching the surroundings for any intruders.

Kaiser then turned his attention back to the Earth Slime.

The creature had completely withdrawn into its thick shell of hardened mud, hiding its core deep inside while trembling in fear.

"Alright..."

"I hope this works."

Kaiser glanced at his Mana.

Mana: 1000/1000

On his way here, he had hunted enough slimes to reach Level 10. As planned, he invested all 80 bonus stat points he had earned into Intelligence, raising his Mana to 1,000.

Taking a deep breath, he pointed his hand toward the Earth Slime.

"Reconstruction."

A brilliant golden light burst from his palm and enveloped the slime.

The Earth Slime immediately began writhing in pain as the golden energy seeped into every part of its body.

At the same time, Kaiser’s Mana rapidly drained.

1000... 800... 600... 400...

It finally stopped at 250 Mana.

Kaiser ignored his remaining Mana and kept his eyes fixed on the glowing slime.

The golden cocoon surrounding it became brighter and brighter.

"What will it become?" he muttered with anticipation.

A few moments later, the familiar system notifications echoed in his mind.

"Hahaha! I knew it!"

Kaiser burst into laughter as he looked at the massive slime before him.

The Giant Earth Slime stood nearly five meters tall.

For comparison, Kaiser himself was only around two meters tall, a physique he had achieved through years of rigorous training.

"No wonder you’re called a Giant Earth Slime."

He happily patted the enormous slime.

The Giant Earth Slime quivered excitedly before letting out a deep, cheerful rumble.

"And I even unlocked the Pet System. That’s an unexpected bonus."

Kaiser opened the pet interface.

At the moment, he had two pet slots, with one already occupied by the Giant Earth Slime.

Normally, players could only obtain pet slots by acquiring a Beast Tamer-related class or completing rare hidden quests.

Thanks to Reconstruction, however, Kaiser had unlocked the system far earlier and far more easily than anyone else.

He looked back at the giant slime with excitement.

"Still..."

"I wonder what you’ll become if I evolve you all the way to Legendary... or even Mythical rank."

Smiling, Kaiser waved his hand.

The Giant Earth Slime disappeared in a flash of light and entered the Pet Space.

Curious, Kaiser checked the newly unlocked dimension.

Unlike an empty white space, the interior had transformed into a vast muddy landscape filled with rocks and soft earth—an environment perfectly suited for the Giant Earth Slime.

The enormous slime happily rolled across the muddy ground, clearly enjoying its new home.

Kaiser smiled.

"In a lot of fantasy stories, high-ranking slimes become terrifying monsters."

"I’ll definitely raise you to that level."

His thoughts soon shifted to his remaining pet slot.

"As for the next one..."

"What’s better than a potential Lich?"

His eyes gleamed with anticipation.

He had already decided that his next destination would be the Black Bone Graveyard.

Not only did it contain a hidden class trial, that even at the Easy Difficulty rewarded players with a hidden class.

The harder difficulties would undoubtedly offer even greater rewards.

"And while I’m there..."

"I can capture a Bone Sorcerer or a Skeleton Mage and try evolving them."

"If Reconstruction works the same way it did on the slime, they might become my pets as well."

The mere thought made him excited.

A future army of evolved undead...

And at its center...

A Legendary Lich.

Liches were among the most terrifying monsters in existence.

They normally appeared only in Rank 5 Dungeons or higher and were considered walking disasters.

There was even a famous saying among veteran players:

"You can survive a Demon Lord... but pray you never encounter a Lich."

The reason was simple.

Liches possessed seemingly limitless mana reserves, allowing them to endlessly summon undead armies while bombarding entire battlefields with devastating curse magic and high-tier area-of-effect spells.

Among humanoid monsters, they stood at the very top of the food chain, rivaling even mythical creatures like dragons in terms of overall threat.

"Let’s go kill the boss and get out of here."

Kaiser smiled as he began walking toward the boss area, with Marina quietly following behind him like a loyal little maid.

After walking for a while, Kaiser suddenly remembered something.

"By the way, do you have any powerful relatives? Parents, siblings, or someone backing you?"

In many stories, the villains always seemed to have influential families or powerful supporters waiting to take revenge.

He didn’t want to unknowingly provoke someone troublesome.

Marina shook her head.

"No, Master."

"Until a few days ago, I was just an orphan."

"My parents died during a dungeon expedition when I was very young."

"Since I had no relatives to take care of me, I was sent to the city’s orphanage, where the children of deceased Divers are raised."

Kaiser subconsciously let out a sigh.

For a brief moment, he felt both relieved and somewhat sympathetic toward her.

However, that sympathy lasted only a second before he mercilessly crushed it.

She tried to kill me.

Everything happening to her now is the result of her own choices.

His expression returned to normal.

"Then where did you get a Slave Contract?"

Earlier, he had been too focused on questioning her about the hidden class to ask about the rare magical item.

After all, Slave Contracts were extremely valuable and almost impossible to obtain through normal means.

Marina answered honestly.

"I made it myself."

Kaiser blinked.

"You made it?"

"Yes, Master."
