Chapter 14: Gate II

Meanwhile, Kaiser knew nothing about what had happened behind him.

He continued walking deeper into the grassy plains.

The farther he went, the fewer people he saw.

Most beginners preferred staying close to the entrance where the slimes were easier to deal with.

Kaiser wanted a quieter place.

After walking for another ten minutes, he finally stopped.

A lone blue slime was bouncing around a few dozen meters away.

Blue Slime

Level: 2

Seeing no one else nearby, Kaiser raised his hand toward a Blue Slime.

"Light Bullet."

Mana rushed through his body and gathered at his fingertip.

A small glowing bullet of light formed instantly.

Whoosh!

The bullet shot forward at incredible speed.

It pierced straight through the slime, leaving a clean hole in its body before continuing into the distance.

The slime burst apart almost immediately.

[Blue Slime Killed]

[You gained 5 EXP]

Kaiser smiled.

"One shot."

Then he frowned slightly.

"Hmm... where’s the soul?"

He had expected his Soul Smith Talent to collect the slime’s soul automatically.

Curious, he opened the Talent description again and read it carefully.

A moment later, he nodded.

"I see..."

"So souls are treated like loot drops."

"They aren’t guaranteed."

Kaiser wasn’t too disappointed.

If souls dropped every time, the Talent would have been far too overpowered.

He closed the screen and continued hunting.

One Light Bullet after another flew across the grassland.

Every shot killed a Blue Slime instantly.

His experience steadily increased.

Before long, another notification appeared.

[You have gained 100 EXP.]

[You have reached Level 2.]

[Congratulations on leveling up.]

[Cosmic Sheet Updated.]

Kaiser immediately opened his Cosmic Sheet.

He quickly noticed that a new section had appeared.

"Looks like my stats have finally been unlocked."

He tapped on the new tab to check his updated status.

Kaiser looked over his status window and nodded before opening the detailed descriptions.

A small panel appeared beside each attribute.

Strength: Increases physical attack power and physical defense.

Agility: Increases movement speed, attack speed, and reaction speed.

Vitality: Increases Health, physical endurance, and natural recovery.

Intelligence: Increases Mana, magic attack power, and mana recovery speed.

"Hmm..." Kaiser muttered.

"So my Health and Mana are ten times my Vitality and Intelligence stats."

"And I receive ten free stat points every time I level up."

He nodded in satisfaction.

"Alright. For now, I’ll invest everything into Intelligence."

Without hesitation, he assigned all ten stat points to Intelligence, raising it from 10 to 20.

His Mana immediately increased from 100 to 200.

"Good."

"My goal is to gain at least ten levels here."

With that, Kaiser continued deeper into the forest, completely unaware that someone was secretly following him.

"Light Bullet..."

Marina watched him from a distance with a look of disdain.

"So he’s only using a Rank 2 Light Bullet. Just another common skill granted by a Light Gnome."

She had mistaken the spell for a low-grade racial skill.

"There’s no need to waste my time watching him. I’ll just kill him."

She silently tailed Kaiser, waiting patiently until he had ventured far enough into the forest that no other players were nearby.

Once she confirmed they were completely alone, a sinister smile appeared on her face.

She activated Atomizer, her A-Rank Talent.

The talent allowed her to convert almost any substance into microscopic particles and manipulate them freely.

This time, she used it on Nightshade Poison, a rare rank poison created by her Nightmare Caterpillar.

The black poisonous mist drifted silently through the air, completely invisible to the naked eye.

The instant it reached Kaiser...

Thud.

He suddenly collapsed onto the ground.

"Hahaha!"

"That’s what you get!"

Seeing him fall, Marina jumped down from the tree and hurried toward him with excitement.

However—

The moment she got within a few meters...

Kaiser suddenly opened his eyes.

Before Marina could react, a flash of steel cut through the air.

Slash!

"Aaaaahhh!!"

Both of her legs were severed cleanly below the knees.

She crashed onto the ground, screaming in unbearable agony.

Kaiser looked down at her with a confused expression.

"...Wait."

"Aren’t you the girl who was with Alex earlier?"

His gaze then shifted to the parchment clutched tightly in her hand.

He snatched it away.

The moment he read its contents, his expression turned ice-cold.

It was a Slave Contract.

A sinister magical item that only required the target’s blood to activate. Once completed, the victim would become an obedient slave to the contract’s owner.

"You bitch."

His voice was calm, but overflowing with killing intent.

Marina’s face turned pale.

"How...?"

"How are you still moving?"

She stared at him in disbelief.

Her paralysis poison had never failed before.

The Nightshade Poison created through her Rare rank skill had five different variants, each with a unique effect.

This time, she had specifically used the Paralysis Variant.

According to her calculations, Kaiser should have been completely unable to move for several minutes.

Originally, she had planned to kill him.

But halfway through carrying out her plan, she realized that murdering Kaiser would gain her nothing.

Instead, she came up with a better idea.

She would enslave him using the Slave Contract.

After that, she would force Kaiser to introduce her to Alex as his girlfriend. With Kaiser’s recommendation, joining Alex’s guild would become effortless.

It was the perfect plan.

Or at least, it had been.

Now...

Everything had fallen apart.

"Please... don’t kill me!" Marina pleaded as she crawled toward Kaiser.

Kaiser immediately kicked her away before she could get close enough to pull another trick.

"Why did you try to kill me?" he asked coldly, pointing his sword at her throat.

The blade pressed slightly into her neck, drawing a thin line of blood.

"It was Alex! Yes, it was Alex!" Marina cried in panic. "He ordered me to get rid of you. He doesn’t want to be reminded of his past by a worthless friend like you."
