Chapter 10: Repairing

"Good morning," Kaiser replied.

"I’d like to register myself as an awakener."

"Certainly."

She nodded and asked for his identification card.

Kaiser handed it over.

As she entered his information into the system, her eyes drifted toward the tiny creature sitting on his shoulder.

"Is that your bonded beast?"

"Yes."

"What species is it?"

"It’s a King Light Gnome."

The receptionist looked surprised.

"A King Variant?"

Kaiser nodded.

"It hatched from one of the free Beast Eggs."

She smiled.

"Then you’re quite lucky."

"Most people only receive Rank 1 or Rank 2 beasts from the free eggs."

"A King Variant is usually considered one rank above the normal species."

"Since a Light Gnome is normally Rank 2, a King Light Gnome would be Rank 3."

Kaiser simply smiled.

"Here."

She handed him a small metallic card.

"Your registration is complete."

"This is your Awakener License."

"You’ll need it whenever you enter dungeons, register for Cosmic facilities, or accept Association missions."

Kaiser accepted the card and thanked her.

"One more thing," the receptionist said.

"What Talent did you awaken?"

"It won’t be printed on your license, but we do need to register it in our internal database."

"You don’t have to tell us its rank."

"Just its type or general ability."

"And don’t worry."

"Your information will remain confidential."

Kaiser had already prepared his answer.

"It’s an Utility-type Talent called Repair."

"It lets me repair damaged equipment and items."

The receptionist nodded and entered the information into the system.

"Done."

She then smiled.

"Actually, if you have some free time, you might want to visit Workshop Hall Three."

"Since it’s the beginning of the awakening season, many new awakeners bring damaged weapons and equipment there to be repaired."

"With a Repair Talent, you could earn some extra money."

Kaiser’s eyes lit up.

That was exactly what he needed.

"Thank you."

"I’ll take a look."

The receptionist nodded before taking out another card.

"This is a temporary Workshop Employee Pass."

"It’ll let you accept repair commissions inside the Association."

"You’ll receive payment immediately after each completed job."

Kaiser accepted the card with a smile.

"Thanks again."

He had originally planned to head straight to the Slime Dungeon.

Now, however, he had another way to earn money before starting his first hunt.

Remembering her suggestion, he headed toward Workshop Hall Three.

At the entrance, a guard stopped him.

"Workshop Employee Pass."

Kaiser handed over the temporary pass the receptionist had given him.

The guard checked it, nodded, and stepped aside.

"You may enter."

Kaiser thanked him and walked inside.

The moment he entered, he felt as though he had stepped into a marketplace.

Rows of booths stretched across the large hall.

Every booth belonged to a different awakener.

Some specialized in repairing equipment.

Others offered enchanting services.

There were appraisal experts, blacksmiths, potion makers, inscription masters, and even material refiners.

People constantly moved from one stall to another, comparing prices and looking for the best service.

Kaiser followed the signs until he reached the Repair Section.

Fortunately, there was still one empty booth available near the corner.

He walked over and placed his bag underneath the table.

A blank wooden sign rested on the counter.

Picking up a marker, he wrote a few simple words.

Equipment Repair

Fast Service

Affordable Prices

After placing the sign where everyone could see it, Kaiser sat down and waited for his first customer.

Before coming here, he had already tested his Talent several more times at home.

He had learned roughly how much mana Reconstruction consumed.

Repairing an item back to its original condition didn’t require much mana.

A Common-Rank item required around 20 MP to fully repair.

An Uncommon-Rank item required around 40 MP.

As for Rare-Rank items, he hadn’t been able to test them since there weren’t any in his house. Based on the pattern, however, he guessed they would require around 80 MP.

Now that his stall was ready, all he had to do was wait for customers.

On his way here, he had already checked the Association’s standard service charges.

Repairing a Common-Rank item cost 5,000 Cosmic Coins.

An Uncommon-Rank item cost 10,000 Cosmic Coins.

The Association would take a small commission, while the rest would go to the awakener who completed the repair.

"Not bad."

Kaiser nodded.

Even after paying the commission, the income was much better than he had expected.

A few minutes later, a young man carrying a damaged sword stopped in front of his stall.

The man looked at the handwritten sign before glancing at Kaiser.

"You’re new?"

Kaiser smiled.

"Yes."

"I awakened yesterday."

The customer looked surprised.

"You awakened yesterday? Oh you got a Repairing type talent?"

Kaiser nodded.

"Can you fix this?"

He placed the sword on the table.

Kaiser picked it up and inspected it.

The blade had several chips along the edge, and a long crack ran through the middle.

Fortunately, it wasn’t beyond repair.

"I can."

"Great. How long will it take?" the man asked.

Kaiser thought for a moment before replying,

"You can come back tomorrow to collect it."

The customer nodded.

"Sounds good."

He paid fifty percent of the repair fee as an advance before leaving the stall.

That was the normal procedure.

Most repairs took time to complete, and many repair awakeners even needed additional materials or assistance from other specialists.

Kaiser watched the man leave before placing the sword beside him.

SSS-Rank Talents really are cheats.

All I need is enough mana, and I can complete the repairs instantly while earning the full payment.

He smiled to himself.

As the day went on, more customers stopped by his stall.

Some brought chipped swords.

Others had cracked shields, damaged armor, broken spears, or worn-out daggers.

Kaiser accepted every repair request he could handle.

By evening, a small pile of equipment had gathered behind his booth.

In total, he had accepted seventeen repair jobs.

Fourteen of them were Common-Rank items.

The remaining three were Uncommon-Rank weapons.

Looking at the pile, Kaiser smiled.
