Chapter 13: Earth-Rank Weapon
Chapter 13: 13: Earth-Rank Weapon
Just as Roderic wanted to stand up, a cold breeze rustled through the tree.
His body shivered as a small cloud left his mouth with every breath.
Only then did he really notice the moon hanging high in the sky.
’Fuck!’ he cursed, stroking his arms. ’It’s already night?!’
Without realizing it, several hours had passed while he’d absorbed the technique’s information.
He let out a deep breath as he reached for his bag.
’The entire plan is gone,’ he thought, pulling out a small wool blanket. ’I’ll have to wait until tomorrow before I can do anything more.’
And worse... he had to spend the entire night in the cold!
Roderic wrapped it tightly around himself before resting his back against the trunk.
His hunting knife remained within arm’s reach, while his bag served as a makeshift pillow.
He gave the surrounding forest one last careful glance. But apart from a few rustling leaves and the chirping of insects, everything remained quiet.
’Good,’ he thought, closing his eyes.
Even so, he didn’t allow himself to relax, with one hand remaining on the knife at all times.
Before long, mental exhaustion finally pulled him under.
...
Only a few hours later, the first chirping of birds echoed through the forest, instantly waking Roderic up.
Roderic’s eyes opened groggily, dark circles having formed beneath them.
’’I did not sleep for shit!’’ he cursed, locking eyes with a nearby bird. ’’Get away from here, you devils!’’
Seeing the strange human’s outburst, the bird chirped even louder before fluttering away.
Roderic sat up angrily and massaged his extremely stiff body. ’’Why did I ever even trust some random novel? Trees suck to sleep in!’’
He slowly climbed to his feet, twisting and turning to get rid of the stiffness.
Finally, Roderic stretched his arms above his head until several loud pops echoed through the forest.
’’At least I didn’t roll off,’’ he muttered, glancing down.
He quickly stuffed his blanket back inside his bag, then tucked his bag into a small hole inside the tree.
Finally, he jumped down several meters without an issue.
’First things first,’ he thought, glancing at the river in front of him.
He cupped both hands together and splashed some icy water on his face before setting out to gather some firewood.
Only a few minutes later, Roderic sat down in front of a small campfire, a small pot already boiling water for him.
’’Alright,’’ Roderic said as he chewed on some beef jerky. ’’Let’s get started training the first move.’’
He paused for a moment.
’’But before that...’’
A large blue window popped up in front of him.

...
The equipment section of the shop went on forever, containing hundreds of thousands of weapons.
Roderic tapped the search option right away.
’’Let’s see,’’ he muttered quietly. ’’Twin hook blades.’’
After confirming the three words, the system froze for a second.
It flickered brightly before revealing over a hundred weapons.
Each was different from the next.
Some possessed longer hooks, others featured sharp spikes above the hooks, while a few had broader handles.
Some were so drastically different that Roderic genuinely wondered how they could still be considered the same weapon.
’’System,’’ he called out awkwardly. ’’Is there any way to only show those suitable for my technique?’’

Roderic stared at the screen in silence for a moment, one eyebrow raising slightly.
’’So this tab does show me ranks?’’ he asked, unsure what to even think. ’’Why the hell did the technique section not have these ranks...?’’
[System Error noted.]
[Recalibrating ’Spells & Techniques’...]
Roderic’s mouth opened for a moment, but no words came out.
Only after a few seconds did he recover.
’’You piece of fucking shit system!’’ he shouted furiously. ’’You made me think that technique was the best one available, and now you’re pulling this bullshit?!’’
’’Give me back my nine thousand Throne Coins!’’
A single small panel popped up in front of him.
[Request denied.]
Roderic’s face lit up a deep red, a vein popping on his forehead.
’’YOU—’’
A few minutes later, Roderic stared at the two system windows in front of him.
One showed him the recalibration countdown. The other was still on the equipment shop page.
’Screw this recalibration,’ he thought grumpily. ’I’ve already paid the coins anyway.’
And it still appeared that the King-rank technique was the highest-ranked one he could’ve bought for now.
His gaze moved over to the shop window, his thoughts returning to his initial purpose for coming to the shop.
He reached out and pressed on the first listing.
[-1 Throne Coin]
[Purchase successful.]
A faint flash of light appeared beside the campfire.
Lying on the grass was a simple pair of iron twin hook blades, a string with a tiny red charm hanging beneath the handle.
Roderic picked one up and inspected it from every angle.
It was well made, but nothing extraordinary.
If he had to rank it, it’d probably be on a similar level as the ones his family used.
’This is the Mortal-rank one, huh,’ he thought, glancing back at the screen. ’Let’s see what the difference is.’
[-250 Throne Coins]
[Purchase successful.]
Another flash of light illuminated the forest floor.
This time, a far fancier pair of twin blades appeared.
Its metal held a faint blue glow, delicate patterns flowing along each side of the blades.
Even its handle was made from chic red wood with golden letters engraved into it.
’Now let’s see what the difference in ranks actually is,’ he thought, picking up one blade from each pair.
Without using a trace of aura, he swung the two toward each other.
Clang!
For a split second, he felt a bit of resistance.
Clink!
Roderic glanced down, finding the upper half of the Twin Tiger Hook Blade lying on the ground.
