Chapter 10: 10: Future?!

’’The... destruction of the Whitemane Barony?’’

Roderic stared at the title for a second longer before slowly dropping down to the first line.

’’The Whitemanes’ stroke of bad luck began in March of the year 445.

Viscount Ironhart annuls the engagement between Catherine Ironhart and Roderic Whitemane, the third son of Baron Whitemane.

Over the following months, the Whitemane and Ironhart alliance gradually began to weaken due to the new engagement of Catherine Ironhart and the outside forces that came with it.’’

Roderic stared at the first few lines in complete silence.

’’It’s February now,’’ he muttered quietly. ’’And the engagement has already been annulled.’’

Could the system be broken once more?

Roderic wasn’t sure, but continued reading anyway.

’’In June of the year 445, all trade from the Ironhart territory began raising its prices far above market value, putting a huge financial burden on the Whitemanes.

Only a few days later, Margaret Whitemane kicked out the third son of Baron Whitemane during Baron Whitemane’s absence.’’

Roderic’s eyes widened slightly.

But it wasn’t because of Margaret... rather, the sentences which followed.

’’Dissatisfied with what happened, Baron Whitemane breaks the marriage with Margaret, sending her back to Baron Deres.

For two months, Baron Whitemane continued the search for his third son, who’d been kidnapped to another country.’’

Roderic completely stopped reading for a moment.

This wasn’t at all what he’d expected from his new old man.

’’He was a cold bastard in my memories,’’ he muttered slowly. ’’But... it seems like he actually does care about me.’’

But as he turned back to the screen, his gaze locked onto the next title.

His blood immediately went ice-cold, fury seething through his eyes as if a switch had been flicked.

’’In August of the year 445, Baron Deres begins attacking Whitemane search parties, slowly weakening the barony’s forces.

Only a month later, in September of the year 445, the Deres Barony declares a territorial war against the Whitemane Barony.’’

Roderic clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white.

’’That fucking bitch,’’ he muttered through gritted teeth.

But the next few sentences only made everything grow worse.

’’Baron Whitemane personally held the defense despite being heavily outnumbered, preventing the Deres forces from advancing for a month.

In October of the year 445, Viscount Ironhart openly declares his support for Baron Deres, severing all remaining ties with the Whitemane Barony.’’

Roderic’s expression grew darker and darker.

’’Towards the end of October, Baron Whitemane loses his life, leading to the surrender under Roland Whitemane, resulting in the loss of vast amounts of territory and wealth to Baron Deres.’’

Everything went completely silent.

Roderic’s eyes lingered on the final sentence, refusing to move any further.

’Arthur dies... huh,’ he thought slowly. ’Betrayal after betrayal until the inevitable happens...’

He felt quite the sour feeling settling in his stomach.

Betrayals were somewhat of a reverse scale for Roderic, something that greatly irritated him and made him utterly despise those involved.

’Could the system be wrong again though?’ he thought, narrowing his eyes.

But no matter how or where he looked at the screen, the information displayed was written in such great detail and felt way too real.

It was almost like he was looking at the literal future!

That’s when a strange thought began to settle in his mind.

His mind wandered back through everything that had happened since receiving the system.

All the quests with strange information, the failed recalibration, and finally, what could’ve changed compared to the archive data.

’The system uses data from ten years in the future,’ he thought as realization slowly dawned on him.

That meant the archive wasn’t literally showing him ’the future.’

Instead, it simply wrote down what it’d been through like an... archive.

’And the deviations in its data -- they must be because I’ve appeared inside Roderic’s body.’

It was the only thing that had changed.

In the archive, Roderic was still described as a waste and was even kidnapped.

Roderic knew that if it’d been him, he’d never live his life like that.

’Even without a system,’ he thought, brows furrowing. ’I would’ve used as much of my Earth knowledge to change things here.’

Slowly leaning against the back of his bed, Roderic’s mind churned.

Gradually, a large, crazed smile began to grow on his face.

’’I can change everything it’s shown me,’’ he muttered, chuckling.

A strange feeling of hope and pure excitement spread through his chest.

’’No...’’ he said, grinning. ’’I will change it!’’

Margaret, Baron Deres, Viscount Ironhart.

All of the traitors went through his mind as a cold glint flashed through his eyes.

’’You’ve already shown me your plans,’’ he continued coldly. ’’Now I just need to prepare for it.’’

Regardless of how much of the future had changed. There was no doubt in his mind that those people had long been and were still waiting for any opportunity to attack.

And it was only a matter of time before they’d do so.

’I’ll show you a nice surprise when you come,’ he thought, swiping the system screen away. ’And I’ll make sure you’ll never leave here.’

A few months was enough time to prepare using his system.

For nearly an hour, Roderic sat silently inside his room.

Slowly, a smile began to appear on his face as he thought about his plan of action.

’’Personal strength comes first,’’ he said calmly. ’’And the Southern Forest just so happens to be the perfect place to train that!’’
