Chapter 9: THE DAY I REGRET
Daven stumbled back, and Seara moved farther away from him. She used the nearby cabinet and pushed it with such force that it fell on top of Daven’s body, breaking his nose in the process.
The pain shot through his brain, and he wailed in pain. Daven was furious right now. He was desperate to get her.
"Damn it, Seara! Stop it! Stop fighting me!" Daven pushed himself from the floor; he was enraged, and when he grabbed Seara by her hair, he didn’t do it gently.
Seara felt as if her hair were going to be ripped out of her scalp; the pain sent her legs buckling, and her face hit the floor. She lay on her stomach when Daven was sitting on her back, hiking up her dress so he could feel her.
The feeling of disgust rose in her throat; she felt his rough hands on her skin and screamed at the top of her lungs for Daven to stop.
Seara had never felt so humiliated in her life. She felt helpless, and she hated to cry, but that’s the only thing that she could do.
"No... No..." Seara begged for Daven to stop, but he didn’t listen to her; if anything, he became even bolder, knowing that Seara had no more strength to fight him.
It would be easy for him to get the deed done.
On the other hand, Seara tried not to think about what was happening to her when she realized there was no way out of this...
Closing her eyes, she kept telling herself that it would be over. It would be done. It would be quick. She didn’t need to fight it anymore...
However, just as Seara had given in and surrendered to her fate, Daven’s body was suddenly yanked away from her. She heard a loud crashing sound, which forced her to open her eyes, and she watched in horror as Daven’s body slid down from the wall.
The wall behind Daven cracked. It caused debris to fall on his hair and shoulders.
Seara was too stunned to speak; she stared at Daven’s horrible condition as blood trickled down from his nose and the corner of his lips. Not only that, but his left hand was also twisted into a weird position. He didn’t move.
Was he breathing? Seara couldn’t tell for sure.
Suddenly, someone draped a cloak over her shoulders, which caught Seara’s attention, and she shifted her gaze from Daven to the person who was responsible for all of this... Silas, her adoptive brother.
Out of instinct, Seara moved away from him, clutching the cloak that he had draped over her to cover her current state.
Seara was unable to comprehend what was actually happening and the fact that Silas had come to her rescue. Not only that, but he also had injured Daven severely.
However, before she could ask and get a proper explanation, another voice echoed inside the room.
"What have you done?!" Brigid rushed in. She approached Daven, who fell unconscious and started to scream in panic.
"Shut up! He is fine!" Silas snapped at his sister viciously so that she would be quiet.
They were arguing about the situation as Seara slowly lost consciousness. Her body felt so heavy, and the fever weakened her further...
***
Seara woke up with a start. She pushed herself from the bed and looked around her. The first thing that caught her attention was Tansy, who was sitting beside her bed, staring at her with mixed emotions.
"Mom...?" Seara felt her chest cave in. She was about to cry when she remembered what happened and what Daven almost did to her.
She was seeking comfort after such a traumatic event; never in her worst nightmare would Seara have guessed that Daven would do that.
But Seara stopped herself when she heard the first thing that Tansy said.
"Why did you reject him?"
"What?" Seara thought she had heard her mother wrong.
"You shouldn’t have rejected the Alpha’s advance. You are his mate; sooner or later, he is going to mark you. Why do you have to make things difficult and reject him?" Tansy shook her head. "What point do you want to make by rejecting the Alpha’s mark? He has tried to fix his mistake, but you are too proud of yourself to see the effort."
Seara couldn’t believe what she heard.
Tansy was not Seara’s biological mother, but she was the only mother figure that she had ever known, yet she looked disappointed in her because Seara didn’t give in to Daven when he was about to violate her.
"Mom, do you even know what he was going to do?" Seara felt stupid to even ask the question. Of course, Tansy knew.
"Do you even know that Silas is in trouble now because he punched the Alpha?" Tansy shook her head and glared at Seara. "You are so ungrateful. The day I brought you to this house was the day I regret so much."
The last word cut deeper than any wound that Seara had ever gotten. She watched her mother walk out of the room without saying anything, watched her figure disappear behind the closed door, and then everything went quiet.
Seara didn’t know how long she had been sitting still on the bed, staring at the mess of her bedroom, which was the silent reminder of what had happened. Blood and broken glasses stained the floor.
Tansy didn’t even send anyone to clean the place up. She wanted Seara to fix the mess...
And when Seara’s mind drifted off into her dark thoughts, someone’s voice echoed in the corridor, and the furious steps filled the room.
Enid slammed open the door and marched across the room toward Seara. She was Daven’s younger sister.
"How dare you come to Daven like that?! How dare you humiliate him like that?!" Enid roared as she approached Seara and screamed in her face so loudly.
Behind Enid, Seara could see Eudora standing there, watching everything unfold.
