Chapter 39: REAPER

The sight not only stunned Zade but also Zephyr, who had just arrived at the bungalow and watched the scene unfold.

He was ready for a fight, though it wouldn’t be the first time he had fought Reaper, since the wolf was trouble.

But it was the first time he watched Reaper act like a lap dog.

Zade saw Zephyr arrive in his wolf form, and Reaper immediately stood up and bared his fangs against the royal gamma.

"No, don’t," Seara said sternly. She grabbed the wolf by the fur and pulled him back.

Watching what Seara was doing, Zade felt his heart leap to his throat because he knew Reaper didn’t like to be touched when he was in a fighting position. The wolf could as well attack the other person.

But to everyone’s surprise, Reaper didn’t do such a thing. The wolf was standing in front of Seara, as if he were guarding her against Zephyr instead.

"Shift back, Zeph," Zade said through the phone.

Zephyr was startled to hear Zade’s voice, but then he saw him on the screen of the phone that Seara was holding.

He whimpered; he didn’t want to shift back, just in case Reaper would attack him, but he couldn’t voice his grievances. Thus, having no other choice, Zephyr shifted into his human form.

"Reaper. Come here." No. Don’t come. Zephyr contradicted his own words because he couldn’t imagine what would happen if the wolf attacked him when he was close enough. "Reaper, come here."

Instead, the wolf snapped at him and growled viciously.

"Its name is Reaper?" Seara asked with interest. "Why does it sound so vicious? He is a good dog."

"Because he is vicious, Seara." Zephyr grimaced when the wolf bared his fangs at him. "And that’s not a dog; that’s a wolf. A wild wolf."

"A wolf?" Seara widened her eyes. She then grabbed Reaper by the hump and turned the wolf around to face her. "I have never seen a wild wolf."

"No!" Zephyr felt her stomach drop when Seara moved her face close to Reaper’s muzzle. If the wolf decided to attack her, Zephyr wouldn’t have time to save her. It would be ugly very quickly.

Moreover, Zephyr learned that Seara lost her healing ability because she no longer had her wolf spirit.

However, the wolf didn’t do anything; he stayed obediently, and Zephyr felt his legs give in as he sat down on the floor with them, only a few meters away.

"He’s cute."

"He’s dangerous, Seara; stay away from him."

"No, Zade says I can have him." Seara hugged the wolf possessively, and Reaper just accepted that.

Seeing this, somehow Zephyr felt betrayed. "I feed you so often, but you never allow me to pet you, but now you act docile when she hugs you?" Zephyr grumbled when he realized the wolf wouldn’t attack Seara.

If there were someone who would be attacked, most likely, it would be him.

"I can have him, right?" Seara asked Zade through the phone. She stared at him expectantly. How could Zade say no to that?

"You can have him." Zade saw there was no sign of aggression from Reaper; somehow, the wolf looked comfortable enough to be hugged by Seara. "But have your dinner, okay?"

"Okay." Seara then hung up the call before Zade could say anything else.

Because of that, Zade called Zephyr instead and gave him a few instructions on what to do with the situation. Reaper could be dangerous, even though Zade had seen for himself how docile the wolf was toward Seara, something he had never seen before, not even toward him.

However, Zade wanted to cover all of his bases, just in case the wolf would do something dangerous to his mate.

"Keep your eyes on them," Zade said at the end of his instruction.

"Okay," Zephyr grimaced. "But don’t you worry about my safety? The wolf can kill me, you know."

"You will survive." And then Zade hung up the phone before Zephyr could say anything else.

For a moment, Zade stared at his phone. He was not sure whether it was a wise decision to leave Reaper with Seara. But then Zephyr was there to take control of the situation if something went wrong.

Meanwhile, despite the pain, Daven could hear Seara’s voice. He felt as if he were being stabbed when he heard her cheerful voice.

He wished he could see her face on the phone screen, but from the angle he was at, it was impossible.

Seara...

He almost forgot her voice. He forgot she had this gentle and velvety voice that reminded you of the soft light of the sun in spring.

And now, when Daven heard it, he felt the knife twist in his chest. He didn’t have any idea how much he missed her until he heard her again.

But he was not the only one. On the other side of the room, Silas’s eyes darkened when he heard Seara’s cheerful voice. When was the last time he heard her sound so happy?

However, their reverie snapped when Zade went back to business. He approached Daven and stepped on his injured leg again.

"Ah!" Daven screamed at the top of his lungs. There was no chance for him to heal from this, and not only that, it was safe to say that even if he survived this, he was going to be crippled.

Not long after, Rexton returned with the three elders, who had sentenced Seara to be locked inside the cell for the rest of her life.

If only that night Zade hadn’t gone near this pack or had ignored the strange urgency to come to her, she would have died by now.

The thought of that made Zade’s blood boil.

"She... She is supposed to be killed... she is bad luck." One of the elders tried to explain to Zade why they did that. "We show mercy to her by letting her live..."

But before he could finish his word, his head was already on the floor.
