Chapter 34: STAYING WITH HER
The last time Zephyr saw Seara, she was nothing but bones and skin, but now, after she had gained some weight and her cheeks were not hollow, he could tell that she was not that ugly.
Zephyr stared at Seara, who was eating quietly, while Zade tended to her.
"What are you doing here?" Zade asked when he saw Zephyr take an empty plate and sit down with them at the table.
"I am hungry too. I don’t like eating alone; Ace is not here, and Jeremy is at school." Zephyr started to put food on his plate. "Hi, Seara. You look beautiful today. I like your yellow dress; you look cute."
Flirting was in his blood, and he was generous with his praise, especially with women. Coupled with a gorgeous face and his warm personality, Zephyr had it easy with women.
"Thank you..." Seara mumbled as she lowered her head and focused on her food.
"Eat your food," Zade said to Zephyr. One look from him was enough to shut him up, as he lowered his head and focused on his food, too.
"Okay," Zephyr mumbled.
Aside from Chloe, no woman had entered the residence freely, except for the omegas who worked here.
Moreover, Zephyr had never seen Zade pay close attention to a woman, not even to Chloe, since the arrangement between them was only business-related regarding how to bring the two old kingdoms of the Lycan together.
Therefore, to see how attentive Zade was to Seara, it was a little bit awkward. It baffled the royal gamma that the Lycan king had this soft side.
"I am so wrong..." Zephyr mumbled. "I had been thinking all this time that you were made of stone. I don’t know that you can be gentle too." He was flabbergasted when he watched the way Zade braided Seara’s long hair so it wouldn’t get dirty when she ate her soup. "Where the hell did you learn how to braid?"
And with that, Zade had had enough. He stood up and grabbed Zephyr’s hand before he could finish his food.
"What? I am not yet done eating."
Zephyr managed to grab a drumstick before Zade pulled him up from the seat but failed in his second attempt when he tried to get another drumstick, since Zade had taken him out of the dining room.
"Please, be gentle; I am delicate."
Seara watched the entire thing and felt trouble; thus, when Zade came again, she told him she would like to have Zephyr around.
"No, he is a bad influence on you." Zade kissed her head and told her to eat some more. He took a note to compliment her.
It could explain why Seara was less guarded with Zephyr around than she was with Ace.
The next day, Zade introduced Seara to Jane, who was the psychiatrist that Rio had recommended. She was a she-wolf from the River Moon Pack.
She was in her forties and had a sweet smile that could coax a child. The way she talked was comforting, and it didn’t take long before Seara finally got comfortable with her, and Zade could leave the two of them alone.
Today, Ace also returned from Arcnard City after he made sure Chloe wouldn’t come back. Alpha Lachlan had assured Ace that he would keep his eyes on his daughter.
"The meeting will be set for tomorrow. Are you going to leave her?" Ace asked. He was sitting on the sofa in the family room, while Zade was standing next to the window, watching Seara and Jane take a stroll in the garden. "There is a chance they will be so pissed about the cancellation."
"How did Alpha Lachlan take it?" Zephyr chimed in; he was sitting opposite Ace, eating his second bowl of noodles.
"He took it well. I think he only wants Chloe to get a decent mate so she can get out of the house." Ace leaned back and followed Zade’s line of sight.
"If I were her father, I would have done the same thing," Zephyr laughed.
Chloe was not malicious, but she was... loud. She did whatever she felt like doing, and both Ace and Zephyr thought that if the union really happened, Zade and Chloe would only give each other a headache, since their personalities were like heaven and hell.
The only reason why she was chosen in the first place was that she was the highest-ranking woman in the Wolfbane Haven Kingdom.
Zade didn’t say anything, his eyes fixed on Seara, who was sitting under the tree and listening to what Jane said to her.
Jane would visit twice a week for now to avoid overwhelming Seara. After that, it would depend on how well Seara responded to her treatment.
"I am going to meet with Altair alone," Zade said. He then shifted his attention to Zephyr, who had just finished his noodles. "You stay here; Ace will come with me."
"Got it."
"You will leave her alone? Do you think it is fine?" Ace was a little bit skeptical. Seara still felt uneasy whenever she was alone with him in the room.
"She is comfortable with him," Zade said, and Zhepyr laughed when he saw the look on Ace’s face.
The royal gamma learned how Seara would tense up whenever Ace was around, but he could tell that the girl liked him better.
"You should stop scaring women, Ace, or else you are not going to have a mate in your entire existence."
Ace glanced at Zade. "I don’t think I want one."
Later that night, Zade informed Seara that he would be away for three days.
"Maisie and Caylin will be here." Zade cradled Seara on the bed, playing with her hair, as she buried her face against his chest.
It was always difficult to hold her like this when Zade wanted to do something more, especially when she looked defenseless and showed her bare neck casually.
The beast inside of him had been clawing at the edge of his mind.
