Chapter 18: SEARA’S DIAGNOSIS

They justified Daven’s continued infatuation with Seara during her first year of imprisonment on the basis that their bond might have not been completely severed.

However, Daven couldn’t do anything about the arrangement because it was against the tradition of the pack and the council of elders.

Seara lost her wolf spirit, and, based on their belief, she was a manifestation of bad luck.

"You shouldn’t have poisoned her!" Daven growled at Eudora. He swatted her hand when she was about to touch him.

Eudora, startled by the yelling, felt tears welling up in her eyes. "She was unfavored by the Moon Goddess. She shouldn’t have lost her wolf spirit even if I had poisoned her. This is fate, Daven. The elders had told you about it."

Seeing tears stream down Eudora’s cheeks, Daven’s anger subsided a bit; he approached his mate and hugged her.

"I am sorry." Daven caressed Eudora’s back and kissed the top of her head. He was unsettled. "I have been restless to think that the Lycans will look for more information about her, and if the Lycan king doesn’t like what he hears, our pack will have the same fate as the Ironclad Pack."

The Ironclad Pack was the pack that Zade had razed a hundred years before.

At that time, humans learned the news, as it was a massive massacre of a small village. But the shifters knew it was an annihilation of an entire pack of werewolves.

"Don’t worry. I will take care of that." Eudora wiped her tears.

"How can you prevent the Lycans from digging up the information?" Daven let go of her to see her face.

"I will not prevent that; they will get the information, but only the thing that we want them to hear." Eudora smiled sweetly and then tiptoed to kiss Daven’s lips. "Let them come."

And Eudora would make the Lycan sick of Seara. It was a small pack; it would be simple to control the rumor that circulated around or to spread false information.

"Don’t bear everything alone; I am your luna. I will handle this part, okay?" Eudora pressed her face against Daven’s chest.

Even so, Eudora wished Seara wouldn’t make it.

***

Seara was in and out of consciousness; she felt her whole body was paralyzed when she heard a certain voice when they were in the open area of the forest.

She wanted to run away from the small, dirty cell that held her for so long, but the moment she saw what was outside the hut, in the open space with so many shifters in their wolf and human forms, her whole body suddenly grew weak as panic hit her.

There were so many people out there, and the space... it was too open for her.

For years, she only knew the walls that surrounded her and a small window to see the sky out there, and that had been her world for so long.

Therefore, when the surroundings changed, it terrified her.

However, he was there, a man with an intimidating look and captivating blue eyes that she first thought would kill her.

Yet, his touch was not painful. His voice was the first sound that she heard after a long time.

Seara remembered clutching him tightly, shutting her eyes and pressing herself against him; it felt just as if she were back at her walls. His sturdiness really helped... But still, it didn’t block the sound of ’his’ voice, which made her body react and feel unwell.

After that, she was pretty sure that she fell asleep, too exhausted with the turmoil that raged inside her.

One moment, the man carried her through the forest; then they were inside the car, and the next moment, Seara opened her eyes only to stare at an unfamiliar face inside a room that was very bright with a sharp scent of disinfectant.

Calm down, calm down.

Seara tried to stop herself from breaking down, but she couldn’t help it when the woman held her down.

"It’s okay; you are fine," she said, trying to stop Seara from moving around because of the IV drip on her hand.

Yet, it only made things worse. Seara became panicked while they were holding her. Her first instinct was to fight back. She didn’t want to be touched; she wanted to leave. This place was too spacious and bright; it sent her crashing down.

Seara thrashed her body to get away from these people, but they wouldn’t let her go.

"Stop it, please."

"You will hurt yourself."

Caroline was trying to stop Seara, along with the other two nurses; they were shifters as well. But Seara knocked the IV pole over, and it fell on top of the table, causing a commotion, and the syringe was yanked out of her.

Blood oozed out from where the syringe was and stained the white blanket.

"What’s going on here?!"

Time seemed frozen when Zade’s voice echoed inside the room, and the temperature dropped when the Lycan saw the blood on his mate.

Seara stopped struggling when she saw a face that she knew. And the next moment, she shoved the doctor and the nurses, who were still on her, as she got off the bed and rushed toward him.

She stumbled, but he caught her.

"What happened here?" Zade furrowed his brows. He watched how Seara clutched him tightly; she was trembling, with blood still oozing out of her hand, where the IV drip was.

She was unable to heal herself like a normal shifter, most probably because she didn’t have her wolf spirit.

"She woke up and became panicked; I was trying to stop her." Caroline tried to explain the situation; she stumbled slightly with her words because of how scared she was.

Caroline then provided an explanation regarding the diagnosis of Seara’s condition.

"She had been starved for so long, and it caused complications in her; aside from the external injuries, she suffered from irreversible organ damage, kidney failure, digestive issues..." And the list went on.
