Chapter 19: SHE WAS NOT A BEAUTY

Ace entered the dimly lit room. There was only one light illuminating the entire room because that woman was freaking out about how bright the room was.

Ace had never seen someone as skinny as this woman on the bed. She looked... horrible. He wouldn’t even start to talk about beauty because it was nonexistent.

Most normal people who saw her would agree that she looked scary with hollow cheeks, big eyes that looked enormous for their sockets, chapped lips, disheveled hair, and bones that protruded all over her body.

Seeing Seara, Ace believed that Zade was not joking when he said that she was his mate, because no man would want her as their woman.

And Zade could get any woman that he wanted, whether she was a shifter or a human.

But of course, Ace would keep those thoughts in his head if he wanted to survive. The Lycan was immortal, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t die.

Given the way Zade devoted himself to this woman, Ace understood that one negative word about her meant he was going to lose his head.

After the commotion earlier, Caroline had to put Seara to sleep because she tended to hurt herself in her panic.

Currently, Zade was tending to her long hair, trying to detangle the knots gently so he wouldn’t wake her up. He had been spending almost three hours doing that, but the progress was slow because of how long her hair was.

"Don’t you think it will be faster to cut her hair?" Ace suggested. He had just entered the room and found Zade still in the same position, doing the same thing.

Zade didn’t respond to the suggestion; his focus was on Seara’s hair, as if it were a mystery that he had to solve. He looked as if his life depended on it.

For Ace, the sight of Zade right now was insane. Never in his wildest imagination did he think that Zade would care about a woman so much.

It was not like Zade had never been with women. He would have them now and then to satisfy his need, but they had never been a necessity for him.

Therefore, it was so strange to see the Lycan king tending to a woman with such devotion. Had Zade been replaced by someone else?

"I mean, her hair can grow again; it will be simpler that way." Ace approached Zade. He stood behind the Lycan king and craned his neck to see Seara’s sleeping face. Her skin was so pale that it almost looked as if someone had just poured white paint on her.

"How is the arrangement?" Zade asked, ignoring the suggestion, but he didn’t take his eyes off Seara’s hair.

"Rio and Caroline have coordinated about the best way to move her. Because of her condition, it will be too risky to move her right away, so the safest option is to wait for three days until she is stable enough for a long trip." Ace summarized the solution that the two doctors told him. "And also, Caroline suggested looking for a psychiatrist for her, seeing how mentally unwell she is."

Zade stopped what he was doing when he heard the last statement. His eyes darkened, and Ace immediately smoothed things over because he thought Zade was livid with the suggestion that his mate was crazy.

"We don’t know how long she had been locked down there; it is understandable if she has a few issues." Ace was not really good at talking in an emotional setting. "Rio also agreed with that; he will send you a list of a few psychiatrists that he recommends."

Zade nodded curtly. "I will see to it." And then he continued to detangle Seara’s knots. "Anything else?" He asked when Ace was still standing behind him.

"No. I think that’s all."

"You can leave. You will startle her."

Ace was speechless. He had never been kicked out of the room by Zade because of a woman. He wondered how it felt to have a destined mate, but then, thinking that Zade could turn one-eighty because he found his, the royal beta decided that he would be fine without one.

Seara woke up with a start. She looked around her and found herself in the same room as before, even though the light was not so bright anymore, which calmed her down slightly.

The curtains were closed, but from the look of it, it was already nighttime.

Seara then looked to her left and saw the scary man with the beautiful pair of eyes was sleeping. He had his head down and used his left arm as a pillow. Strands of his black hair fell on the side of his face. They looked soft...

But when she lifted her hand, she saw the IV drip on her left wrist, and it made her frown. She didn’t like it.

Without a second thought, Seara was about to pull it out.

Yet, before she could do that, the man woke up, and he caught her hand to stop her intention.

"Don’t," he said. His voice was deep, and it sounded heavier because Zade had just woken up. He sensed her movement, which was enough to make him alert. "Don’t pull it out again."

Seara frowned. She wriggled her hand from his grip and became panicked when she couldn’t free herself.

Seeing that, Zade immediately loosened his grip on her, but he was ready to stop Seara if she tried to pull out her IV drip again.

"No. You need that. Don’t do it." Zade caught her hand when she tried again. "Don’t do it, okay?" This time, Seara didn’t struggle; she simply stared at Zade with her big hazel eyes. "Do you want to drink?"

Seara followed Zade’s line of sight and saw him staring at a bottle of water, and she nodded, so the Lycan king grabbed one and unscrewed it before he handed it over to her.

"Slow down; no one will take the drink away from you."
