Chapter 4: Infamous Family
Unbeknownst to Godric, there was a double-sided mirror at the end of the ceremony hall, and behind it were the people observing and taking notes of each ceremony. When he burst in, they were in the middle of discussing today’s ceremony.
"We should stop him—" one of the younger faculty members began, but he was quickly cut off.
"Wait," An elderly man with short grey hair raised his arm. "Let’s see what happens."
They watched as Godric burst through the door, walked hurriedly toward the summoning altar, and placed his hand on the array.
There were four faculty members in total. Three gasped as a golden beam of light burst from the array toward the sky, while one, the man with short grey hair who was in fact the academy’s director, narrowed his gaze.
"It can’t be! He’s that failure from earlier! There is no way he could summon a legendary beast!"
"Legendary?" a female faculty member questioned. "It didn’t look like the ones depicted in textbooks. Do we still have the measuring devices activated?"
One of the faculty members closer to the computer sitting in the corner of the room turned toward the desk.
But as he typed on the keyboard a couple of times and found the sensor readings from inside the hall, he froze.
Noticing it, the female faculty member frowned. "What is it?"
"It’s... um... unreadable."
The faculty member pressing against the glass window sighed. "So the sensors were off? Too bad—"
"No," the female faculty member quickly cut him off. "I’m saying its unreadable."
A moment of silence filled the room.
Then, another one of them spoke.
"We need to take him in for questioning. He broke the rules. How dare he just burst in and—"
"Quiet down, everyone." The director’s voice cut through the chatter. "What was his name again?"
"It’s umm..." The faculty member who was in charge of today’s ceremony flipped through his file of pages until he finally found the one he was looking for. "Godric Blackstar. He failed to summon a beast and awaken earlier today."
"Godric Blackstar" The director murmured the name, there was something in his gaze that said that he was reminiscing more than just the sound of it. "Let’s keep an eye on him."
"You mean... we’re going to let him go?"
"Yes. Let’s see how things turn out."

Moments later, Godric’s consciousness snapped back into reality, and he found himself back in the Awakening Hall.
In his grip he held the weapon he found in his Core Space.
In place where a magical beast should’ve been, he had an overly dark piece of metal.
And yet, despite the apparent lack of a beast, he could already feel it.
His core had awakened.
Before he could, however, learn the grade of this ’beast ’, he remembered where he was.
In the academy he wasn’t supposed to be in, standing in the awakening hall he broke into.
Without wasting another second inside, he began to walk away.
Running would draw way too much attention, though his lack of a uniform already made that an issue.
He hurried through the academy corridors, somehow managing to stay out of sight of any of the faculty members who, surprisingly, still strolled some parts of the academy.
Or so he thought.
As he rounded the final corner toward the exit, Godric bumped into another student.
"Ow!" she exclaimed, stumbling back a few steps.
Silver-white twin tails bounced behind her as she caught her balance. Unlike everyone else he’d seen today, her pristine academy uniform was covered in embroidered insignias he didn’t quite recognise.
Her purple eyes landed on him a second later.
"You’re not supposed to be here without a uniform," she said.
Godric glanced at the academy emblem embroidered across her chest. Even without knowing what the symbols meant, it was obvious she wasn’t an ordinary student.
"I’ll keep that in mind," he replied, his next step bringing him toward the exit.
The girl frowned.
Then her gaze caught sight of the object on the floor.
She leaned down, picked it off the floor and turned it around to see an ID card which clearly didn’t belong to her.
Godric Blackstar
Citizen Tier: 1
Awakened Status: Unawakened
She blinked.
"Blackstar..."
The rumours spreading across the academy echoed in her head, the ones talking about the fallen house that had disappeared from the world.
Her gaze dropped lower, landing on his awakened status, and in that moment, a swift realisation washed over her.
"He’s not a student..."
She blinked again, then her gaze quickly lifted toward the exit and she run toward it.
"Wait!" she called after him, but as she dashed out into the cold night air, she saw only an empty courtyard and no sign of the person who had just walked the academy without any right to.
She frowned and looked at the ID card in her hand again.
"Godric Blackstar..." She read the name aloud, letting it hang in the silence around her.
She should have taken the ID to reception, let them handle the logistics of getting it back to him.
That was the obvious thing to do.
And yet, she slipped the card into the right pocket of her uniform.
She wasn’t exactly sure why, but Raven felt a strong premonition that this wasn’t the last time she would see the heir of the infamous Blackstar family.
