Chapter 9: Chapter 9: How to Split One Person, Might as Well Send Her to the Lab

Pei Yin?

Jian Yu’s gaze shifted from Ling Yanzhi’s beautiful, slender fingers as she tilted her head up slightly.

She hadn’t seen the "F5" since school started. To be honest, she was quite eager to feast her eyes on the tall, long-legged male leads from the book.

The catch was, she was supposed to be admiring them in secret, from some hidden, out-of-the-way corner.

Not like this, kidnapped and brought to F6’s territory.

’After going to all the trouble of flying back to the villa,’ Jian Yu thought, ’F6 probably won’t let Sheng Yue and the others in.’

’Otherwise, why would he have gone to all this trouble to bring me here?’

’Then again, a normal person could never understand the thoughts of a madman.’

"How could we turn guests away?"

Ling Yanzhi’s voice was tinged with amusement, and he didn’t seem to mind the arrival of the two men at all.

And yet, just a short while ago, he had been the one hiding from Sheng Yue and Pei Yin.

He set down Jian Yu’s leg and extended a hand to her with a roguish air. "They came for you. Won’t you come out and meet them with me?"

’Refusing F6 is a very dangerous thing to do.’

Jian Yu blinked, thought for a moment, and placed her hand in his.

Her mind was racing. She had a few vague suspicions, but she lacked any proof.

Taking Ling Yanzhi’s hand, she stood up.

Jian Yu lowered her gaze, fishing for information. "They’re not necessarily here for me. If it turns out you’ve misunderstood something, that has nothing to do with me, right?"

"I never take my anger out on women," Ling Yanzhi said, his faintly flushed eyelids lifting lazily. "Especially not the one I like."

Jian Yu wanted to roll her eyes but held back.

Just when she thought she couldn’t get anything out of him, Ling Yanzhi suddenly spoke, a smug tone in his voice. "Do you think a snake’s sense of smell can be wrong?"

Sense of smell.

What did a snake’s sense of smell rely on? Jian Yu had no idea. She was afraid of snakes, so anything related to them was a complete blind spot for her.

’Sense of smell... So, this really is about the scent on my body?’

Jian Yu lowered her head and sniffed her collar. Forget the female lead’s perfume, even the scent of her body wash was so faint it was practically nonexistent.

’Excellent. I can pretty much rule out those two theories.’

"How could I have fallen for someone as dumb as you?" Ling Yanzhi said, pulling her along as he glanced down at her out of the corner of his eye.

"If anyone could smell it, would you still be alive right now?"

He toyed with her fingers, his eyes narrowing. "Relax. No one will dare take you to be sliced up."

Jian Yu met his icy gaze. She was furious but didn’t dare say a word, so she remained silent.

She was led downstairs and sat on the living room sofa.

The main door opened, and two men of comparable height entered from the long corridor.

Jian Yu looked up, secretly sizing them up.

If Sheng Yue’s face was like moonlight itself—crushed, then reformed—coolly elegant and noble...

Then Pei Yin was sinfully alluring.

A few cool-toned strands of hair fell lazily across his forehead. His dark eyes were like deep, blue-green jade.

All the male leads had the same sharp bone structure, but Pei Yin’s charm lay in the naturally downturned corners of his eyes and the vibrant red mole on the bridge of his nose.

Jian Yu had only admired him for two seconds before Ling Yanzhi grabbed her chin and forcibly turned her to face him.

He leaned in, getting very close. "Am I not handsome?"

His magnified features were exquisitely handsome and utterly flawless, overwhelming Jian Yu.

She swallowed, her reaction utterly shameless. Not wanting to cause offense, she nodded with particular sincerity. "You’re handsome too."

"Hmph." Ling Yanzhi snorted coldly.

Sheng Yue spoke up out of the blue. "Let her go."

"And if I don’t? Are you going to give me a Yellow Card too?" Ling Yanzhi’s eyes narrowed slightly.

He squeezed Jian Yu’s fingers with great interest, sneering without looking up. "Is Chairman Sheng so idle? So idle you have to meddle in our relationship?"

’Relationship? Whose?’

Jian Yu raised a hand and pointed to herself. "Mine?"

"We’ve already kissed. You’re not going to be irresponsible, are you?" Ling Yanzhi’s eyes darkened as his fair, strong knuckles brushed against Jian Yu’s lips.

His arm barred her way as he lowered his head and kissed her lips again. "So red... so tempting."

Jian Yu tried to pull away, her expression blank.

Sheng Yue frowned. "That’s enough."

He took two steps forward. "I know better than anyone why you’re getting close to her."

"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Ling Yanzhi wrapped an arm around Jian Yu’s shoulders, pulling her into his embrace. "It was love at first sight for me, and for her as well."

Pei Yin chuckled. "Then what’s her name?"

Ling Yanzhi drew out a long "hmm." "Stupid Yu."

Jian Yu: "..."

Pei Yin turned his head and stared at Jian Yu for a moment.

Jian Yu spoke hesitantly, "Ling Yanzhi?"

Pei Yin’s gaze drifted over her. "I wasn’t asking you."

He swaggered over and sat across from Ling Yanzhi. "You really have... unique tastes. Seems you’ll put your mouth on anything."

"She is a little slow on the uptake," Ling Yanzhi said with a grin.

Jian Yu: "..."

’Is this a personal attack?’

Pei Yin glanced calmly at Sheng Yue. "We’re all brothers here. Is there anything we can’t talk out properly?"

Sheng Yue realized he had lost his composure and steadied his breath.

Star Express was fast; the body wash he’d ordered arrived at the villa just as he was leaving.

The scent on Jian Yu’s body was not from the body wash.

He had originally planned to investigate Jian Yu more thoroughly, but now, there was no need.

Ling Yanzhi’s current attitude, along with Jian Yu’s red, swollen lips, told him everything.

Ling Yanzhi’s Soul Beast was the Winged Snake. By flicking its forked tongue, it could capture scent molecules from the air, converting them into nerve signals that were sent directly to the brain.

To put it simply, Ling Yanzhi’s abilities in tracking, identification, and judgment far surpassed all of theirs.

But Sheng Yue didn’t believe his "love at first sight" story for a second.

He sat down calmly, his gaze returning to its usual tranquility. "What are you thinking?"

Ling Yanzhi was impervious. "I was here first. She’s mine."

"I won’t fight you for the girl. My standards are considerably higher," Pei Yin said, quickly washing his hands of the matter.

Jian Yu clenched her fists, fuming internally. ’Who’s he calling ugly?’

Sheng Yue analyzed the situation calmly. "You only ’like’ her because that strange fragrance has a bewitching effect, making you feel an attraction you shouldn’t."

He offered an example. "Pei Yin and I weren’t bewitched because our minds are clear enough."

Ling Yanzhi’s tone was unchanged. "Think whatever you want. I can’t be bothered to explain."

’Plenty of things could bewitch him, but did he go around latching onto and kissing every single one? He wasn’t stupid enough to confuse genuine attraction with a simple delusion.’

’If he didn’t feel repulsed, it meant he liked it. That was his logic, no matter who he was dealing with.’

Sheng Yue explained, "As far as I know, the only people who can smell the scent on her are us—those who have reached Level 3S."

"Oh? Let me get a whiff, then." Pei Yin’s nose wasn’t particularly sensitive.

"Get lost." Ling Yanzhi’s hand slid down, wrapped around Jian Yu’s waist, and with a sharp tug, he settled her on his lap.

Jian Yu cried out in alarm.

Before she could recover from the shock, a sense of foreboding washed over her.

Pei Yin shrugged and sat back down.

He suggested, "Since there’s only one of her, I think we should send her to a lab to cooperate with our research."

Sheng Yue remained silent, neither objecting nor agreeing.

’So, I guessed correctly,’ Jian Yu thought. ’The so-called fragrance is my own.’

’I have no idea what kind of trash-tier cannon fodder the system picked for me, but this body is so unreliable.’

Her face was pale, but her eyes were calmer than ever.

’Broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs are great and all, but you have to be alive to appreciate them.’

’Ling Yanzhi. Second in combat power, first in family influence, with a terrifying Soul Beast. But he was still reasonably friendly to me. Right now, he was the best patron to cling to.’

’As for Pei Yin... I’ll remember this.’

Jian Yu feigned weakness, collapsing limply against Ling Yanzhi.

Her large eyeglass frames hid the vicious glint in her eyes, shielding them from everyone’s sight.

A rich, exotic fragrance emanated from her, spreading through the air.

It had a slightly sharp, bitter note.

Ling Yanzhi caught a glimpse of the flush of red at the corners of Jian Yu’s eyes. He nonchalantly removed her glasses, twirling them playfully in his hand.

"If you want a fight, just say the word. I’ll be happy to oblige."

For a moment, no one spoke.

Sheng Yue stared at Jian Yu in astonishment.

Pei Yin held his breath, frozen on the spot.
