Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?
Chapter 10: I Want Your Jacket

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: I Want Your Jacket

Jian Yu was beautiful and she knew it. As early as that night when the female lead had returned to the dorm and stared at her in a daze, she had realized her face had transmigrated with her.

She knew that sometimes, beauty could be her greatest weapon.

But she didn’t think she was beautiful enough to make Pei Yin lose his composure.

’Male leads are never swayed by looks alone. If they really wanted to admire beauty, they could just look in a mirror.’

"Have you all had your fill of staring?" Ling Yanzhi’s expression darkened completely.

He narrowed his eyes, a sharpness emanating from him.

Ling Yanzhi glanced down casually at Jian Yu. His eyes widened, and a flash of surprise crossed his crimson pupils.

A smirk played on his thin lips. He held Jian Yu close and leaned toward her face. "Just a little bundle in bed, you make my heart go soft. I never thought that without your glasses, you’d actually be attractive enough to match me."

Clearly, he hadn’t cared about or even known what Jian Yu truly looked like.

He drew out the words "heart go soft," his voice taking on a cute, singsong quality that was contradicted by a strangely excited tone.

Jian Yu: "..."

’She had to admire the original owner for finding such a pair of huge, old-fashioned glasses.’

"It would be better if you put on some weight," Ling Yanzhi said, pinching Jian Yu’s cheek as if no one else was there, his tone regretful.

His artistic fingers combed through Jian Yu’s long hair as if he were styling a doll.

"I’ll take you to my family’s hospital to get your eyes checked later. You look better without glasses. Don’t you think?"

Their bodies were pressed tightly together.

Jian Yu placed her hands lightly against Ling Yanzhi’s shoulders and didn’t refuse. "Okay."

She kept a constant watch on the two men across from her out of the corner of her eye.

’The crisis isn’t over yet.’

Jian Yu didn’t miss the surprise in Sheng Yue’s eyes, nor did she fail to notice the few seconds of stupor on Pei Yin’s face.

Including the long-clawed eagle that had appeared behind Pei Yin.

Jian Yu looked up, her shimmering gaze watching the Black Eagle fly above the villa’s living room, circling excitedly.

Seeing her distracted, Ling Yanzhi summoned his own Soul Beast.

It shifted rapidly between black and red forms, coiling around Jian Yu’s calf in a possessive display.

The intertwining black, red, and white only served to accentuate the paleness of her skin.

"That ugly eagle is so dramatic." Ling Yanzhi leaned back, satisfied, a cold, contemptuous light rising in his eyes.

"..." Jian Yu didn’t dare to move, forced to watch as the snake’s head rested on her knee.

Soul Beasts and their masters shared senses. It was Pei Yin’s Soul Beast’s first time smelling that strange fragrance, and it couldn’t control itself.

Sheng Yue’s internal complaints hadn’t even finished when, as if to prove him wrong, Yin Jiu began frolicking around the living room.

"..."

Pei Yin snapped back to his senses, his gaze turning cold as he snapped at Jian Yu, "Cut out your little tricks! I’m not Ling Yanzhi!"

He hated losing control more than anything.

After all, those who tried to control him usually met a bad end.

Sheng Yue pressed his lips together, retracting his aura.

He looked at Jian Yu’s bewildered expression and hesitated for a moment but didn’t offer an explanation.

The air froze. Yin Jiu stopped in its tracks, no longer daring to be unruly.

"If you’ve got a problem, go get it checked out." Ling Yanzhi found Pei Yin’s anger baffling, and his own expression instantly turned sullen.

Jian Yu was also baffled.

"Impressive. Perhaps I should call you a Beast Tamer?" Pei Yin recalled his Eagle Beast, his eyes still fixed on Jian Yu.

A moment later, he started clapping, praising her with a smirk. "Truly amazing. You bewitched me in just a few moments."

Jian Yu frowned, guessing what he was implying.

’But the scent on my body isn’t something I can control. I can’t even smell it myself.’

’I can’t be bothered to explain. I wish I could get a do-over.’

"I’ve changed my mind. Rather than sending you to a lab, I’d rather..." A murderous glint flashed in Pei Yin’s eyes.

Jian Yu’s face tensed. Her desire for a do-over reached its peak.

She retorted with a deadpan expression, "Your self-control is terrible. Chief Sheng and Chief Ling wouldn’t be like this. Has your Level been overestimated, or have you degenerated somehow? I suggest you get retested."

With a completely serious face, Jian Yu asked, "Among the Seven Chiefs, Chief Pei Yin isn’t the weakest one, is he?"

"Heh." Pei Yin was rendered speechless, gritting his teeth in anger.

’Everyone knows my power is comparable to Sheng Yue’s! We’re practically equals.’

’It’s one thing to say I’m not as good as Ling Yanzhi or Xi Yu, but to compare me to those other guys!’

Sheng Yue coughed lightly twice.

"Retested? I agree with that. When he was sent on that mission to the Source Star, it seems he might have injured his brain. Maybe his Level really did drop." Ling Yanzhi chuckled, his tone dripping with mockery.

He seemed to have a purely physical attraction to Jian Yu. His hands never stopped, constantly roaming and touching her.

"Ling Yanzhi." Jian Yu caught his right hand, taking two of his fingers and bringing them to her lips.

She lowered her head and kissed the back of his hand, her eyes clear. "I heard that eagles are the natural enemy of snakes?"

Ling Yanzhi raised an eyebrow, a flicker of fighting spirit igniting. "Who told you that?"

The Red Snake arched its body in disbelief, flicking its tongue out and letting out a defiant HISS.

A shiver ran down Jian Yu’s leg.

’This thing is terrifying.’

She tried to ignore it, raising one hand to touch Ling Yanzhi’s face while her other hand traced circles on his chest. "Why don’t you two fight? I want to watch."

Sheng Yue’s brows furrowed. The scene before him was an eyesore.

"?" Before Ling Yanzhi could even give a command, the Red Snake, captivated by Jian Yu, launched an attack on its own.

Pei Yin: "..."

"Are you crazy?!" Pei Yin dodged to the side and summoned his Soul Beast.

’Eagles are the natural enemy of snakes?’

The Red Snake wrapped around it without hesitation and opened its mouth to bite.

’So what if it can fly? I can fly too.’

"Ting Ying!" Pei Yin’s cyan eyes widened in shock. He never expected Ling Yanzhi to actually make a move.

The few of them had grown up together. They were close, and their families’ interests were deeply intertwined; they rarely ever clashed.

"Ling Yanzhi, stop it." Sheng Yue also stood up disapprovingly to intervene.

Ling Yanzhi wasn’t afraid of a one-on-two fight, but he was a little surprised that the Red Snake would obey Jian Yu.

He didn’t think too much about it, simply sighing in admiration. ’Truly a match made by fate!’

The outcome was already decided.

"He’s the one who went crazy first." Ling Yanzhi snapped his fingers, and the Red Snake slithered back to him.

Taking advantage of its wings, its head now came to rest on Jian Yu’s shoulder.

"..." Jian Yu froze, her heart instantly thrown into chaos.

She desperately tried to calm herself.

By the time she had composed herself and calmed down completely, the conversation between the three men had also become much more level-headed.

After some discussion, Sheng Yue and the others decided not to let anyone else know about Jian Yu’s special nature for now. Even from their other friends, they would hide it for as long as possible.

The uproar on the campus network was considerable, so for the time being, Jian Yu could only live with Ling Yanzhi.

After realizing Ling Yanzhi was serious, Pei Yin gradually let go of his disdain.

"We’ll look into your background information later. For now, can you tell us, about that scent on you..."

Ling Yanzhi cut him off impatiently. "She doesn’t even know herself."

His specialty was information encryption and countermeasures.

There was very little information on Jian Yu, so it hadn’t taken him long to look it up.

Jian Yu nodded. "Before this, no one ever told me that I had any particular scent."

Pei Yin paused, a strange look in his eyes. ’She really doesn’t know?’

He frowned. "Before you came to this school, had you ever encountered a 3S-Level Awakener?"

Jian Yu answered with certainty, "No."

Ling Yanzhi added, "The planet she lived on is a bit backward. There are no nobles."

’Forget 3S, she probably hasn’t even come into contact with low-Level Awakeners.’

There weren’t many planets without nobles. Even the trashiest planets had some minor nobility, unless it was one of those remote planets.

For once, Pei Yin was silent.

Sheng Yue fell into deep thought.

He glanced at Jian Yu’s nervous expression. "Yan Zhi, call it back. She’s afraid of your Soul Beast."

Ling Yanzhi: "..."

Jian Yu chimed in softly, "Yes, I’m scared."

The Red Snake seemed heartbroken. Its body turned a beautiful shade of red as it flapped its small wings and flew away, dragging itself along the ground, its retreating figure looking desolate.

Jian Yu tilted her head. "Resting on my lap is okay."

A blur flashed past, and a small snake, its entire body like red jade, appeared on her knee.

Jian Yu reached out and stroked its patterned wings.

"She’s not afraid," Ling Yanzhi said, his face full of pride.

Sheng Yue lowered his gaze and didn’t do anything further.

Pei Yin’s lips curved. His long lashes curled at the outer corners of his eyes. "You’re just deceiving yourself."

He didn’t want to provoke Ling Yanzhi any further, so he changed the subject. "We need to find a way to conceal the scent on her as soon as possible."

"I’ll figure something out." Sheng Yue was the first to leave the villa.

Jian Yu looked at Pei Yin, who hadn’t left.

"Trying to get rid of me?" Pei Yin smiled. "My Threshold Devouring Period isn’t here yet, Sheng Yue has his suppressed, and Ling Yanzhi is with you every moment. They all get to enjoy the benefits. You can’t just leave me out, can you?"

He held out his hand. "I want your jacket. That’s not too much to ask, is it?"

Jian Yu took off her jacket and handed it to him.

’This is what it’s like to be one of the powerful. You can never guess their next move.’
