Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Give Me 300 Million, Let’s See Your Strength
"I think there might be some kind of misunderstanding between us."
Jian Yu struggled uneasily.
Her expression was blank as she complained inwardly: ’He’s completely unhinged. Coming up to me and saying I got the wrong person.’
"Before you showed up, I didn’t know you at all, and I never even thought about looking for you."
Xi Yu didn’t even lift his eyelids, seemingly uninterested in this "misunderstanding" she spoke of.
He acted strangely, fiddling with the Soul Beast mucus in his hands until his fine fingers were coated in the fluid.
’What if I experiment on her again and she doesn’t wake up?’
His fingers paused. A wave of reluctance washed over him.
"I’m stronger than Ling Yanzhi. He can’t beat me."
This was the first thing Xi Yu said after a long silence.
It came out of nowhere, like the ramblings of someone mentally unhinged—an outcast completely immersed in his own world.
A sick smile played on his lips as he looked down, admiring Jian Yu.
"Choose me, baby. Anything Ling Yanzhi can give you, I can give you too."
The name "baby" rolled off his tongue more and more smoothly as he leaned in close, his eyes filled with obsession.
"I can buy you so many dresses, baby. And if there’s one you don’t know how to put on, I can personally help you with it."
Jian Yu’s expression was blank. "You..."
’When did you become such a pervert?’
She’d thought Sheng Yue and the others had revealed her special circumstances on the Star Brain.
Or maybe Xi Yu himself had guessed her secret and was preparing to subject her to a research process that didn’t involve drawing blood or taking tissue samples.
But in the end... this was it?
She originally thought Ling Yanzhi was pretty sick in the head, but now that she thought about it, even a gentle facade was a form of gentleness. The ability to fake it was a skill in itself.
At the very least, he was easier to coax than the inscrutable Xi Yu.
Jian Yu snapped back to reality, saw Xi Yu’s furtive hand, and quickly shouted, "Wait."
"Hm?" The man’s eyes were dark as he drew his fingers back slightly.
With a soft TSK, he grabbed a handkerchief and wiped them clean again.
Jian Yu was intimidated by his cold expression.
The system had said she could return to her original world after finishing the plot, but upon careful thought, she realized she didn’t want to go back that badly.
The director was gone. If she got sick and went to the hospital, no one would empty their savings to pay for her treatment.
But in this world, the director was still alive, and there was much more room for medical advancement, which was better for her recovery.
Not to mention the special medicines developed by the upper echelons. Life was life, no matter where she lived it.
Jian Yu was back to thinking about money. "Uh, how about you transfer me 300 million to show me what you’re made of?"
A blue light flashed.
Without hesitation, Xi Yu walked around to the head of the bed and connected to the Star Brain on Jian Yu’s wrist.

Jian Yu hadn’t had much hope; she was just joking around.
But when Xi Yu actually sent the money, she was a little stunned. This wasn’t how she expected it to go.
Normally, she should have been met with a few insulting words. Then, the man would look at her with contempt, a disgusted expression on his face as if he’d been blind to have misjudged her, and ideally, he would turn and leave.
Jian Yu pressed her lips together.
’With 300 million, who cares about the system’s 200 million?’
’Can’t look too happy. I have to play hard to get, or he’ll find it a turn-off.’
’First step of playing hard to get: make him angry?’
She asked, lacking confidence, "Don’t tell me you fell in love with me at first sight, too?"
Jian Yu’s eyes widened, doing her best to look angry. "You don’t respect me at all. Yan Zhi would never treat me like this."
’So obedient. Even her anger is obedient.’ Xi Yu’s eyes were glazed with infatuation, and he didn’t react right away.
Yan Zhi? Love at first sight?
When he snapped out of it, he felt like his world was about to collapse.
Xi Yu gritted his teeth, his expression turning grim as a thought occurred to him.
"Is he like this with you, too?"
He lowered his head and began to place light kisses up from her collarbone.
"Don’t..." Jian Yu flinched, her body going weak, but she didn’t feel any revulsion.
She was even a little excited.
Thirty percent fear, twenty percent excitement, and fifty percent thrill.
Her heart raced, and she couldn’t stop trembling.
Xi Yu’s behavior was deplorable, pressing her relentlessly. "Does he do this to you, too?"
His fingers touched her waist, roaming, probing, closing in.
"N-No."
Jian Yu’s breathing became erratic as she tilted her head back.
Xi Yu let out a laugh, lifted her by the waist, pinned her down, and kissed her deeply.
The sounds of the world faded away, and the pounding of her heart became exceptionally clear.
As she struggled for breath, her thoughts were suddenly pulled back to the past.
Jian Yu’s mind went blank. Her gaze, dazed and hazy, drifted upward.
For someone who enjoys reading novels about forceful, possessive love, her tolerance was generally quite high.
She liked being forced. She reveled in the madness of someone needing her, of being unable to live without her.
She longed for someone to be waiting for her, devoted and unswerving, every time she was wheeled into the emergency room.
But she was socially anxious and physically frail. She wasn’t good at socializing, nor was she suited to taking the initiative. Conversations would always die an awkward death after just a few words.
Everyone knew she loved money. And she really did love money, because money could save her life. She also liked to be controlled, she just couldn’t get over her own mental hurdles.
Ever since she was young, many people had pursued her, even girls.
She was difficult and duplicitous, pushing people away while hoping they would take the initiative, yet she also had extremely high standards for material wealth.
’Gold digger.’ It had been a while since she’d thought about that label others had slapped on her.
Jian Yu’s eyes lost focus. Her long, chestnut hair fanned out, the slightly curly ends of the damp side clinging to her face.
"You’re so cute, baby."
Xi Yu’s praise echoed in her ear.
Jian Yu’s fingers tightened, a flustered blush creeping onto her face.
She loved being praised, regardless of the form, the words, or the place.
Suddenly, a sharp sound of something cutting through the air came from outside the window.
Xi Yu, his expression unchanged, grabbed a blanket and covered Jian Yu with it.
He stood up, his eyes narrowed.
Tears welled in Jian Yu’s eyes as she glanced faintly out the window.
Ling Yanzhi was diving straight toward them.
His body crashed through the glass, a shower of fragments flying as he forced his way into view.
Before the young man even landed, he aimed a vicious kick at Xi Yu.
The dull thuds of hand-to-hand combat, mixed with pained grunts, exploded around them.
Perhaps because they hadn’t summoned their Soul Beasts or used their spiritual power, the two were evenly matched, with neither gaining an advantage.
They were a tangled mess, fists whistling through the air, the sound of bone hitting bone creaking unnervingly. Heavy panting filled the entire room.
Jian Yu’s budding excitement was interrupted, and a wave of drowsiness washed over her.
She closed her eyes for a moment, contemplating her life.
’Xi Yu’s madness isn’t as controllable as Ling Yanzhi’s.’
’He’s obsessed with my body. I can see that.’
’It’s completely undisguised, with no pretense, which is actually reassuring. At least I don’t have to waste energy figuring out Xi Yu’s hidden agenda.’
’If I use it well, he could be a sharp blade.’
’Whatever. This sickly body will belong to whoever takes the best care of it. I want to live, and I want to live comfortably.’
This beautiful shell of Jian Yu’s had attracted many people, but she could never hold on to them, not that she wanted to.
Those people didn’t understand her. When she said she didn’t like something, they actually believed her.
They didn’t know that when she pushed them away, what she was really thinking was that she wanted them to fuss over her, to be so desperate they’d slam her against a wall and kiss her.
She thought she would enjoy their desire to conquer, just as she had with Xi Yu moments ago.
Jian Yu had some backbone, but not much. When she was emotionally stable, she was unwilling to put up a pointless struggle.
Struggling helplessly and letting Xi Yu laugh at her once was enough. She didn’t want a repeat performance.
Her thoughts drifted. Jian Yu lazily nuzzled her chin against the fluffy fur of the rabbit-hair blanket.
