Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Pardon the Intrusion
Evan Fairchild took out a business card and leaned down, tucking it into President King’s jacket pocket.
"I’ll be waiting."
Watching him, Melody Monroe nearly swooned at how cool he looked.
She completely forgot her fear of him, staring with stars in her eyes.
Evan Fairchild turned and saw Melody Monroe’s expression, and the tense line between his brows slowly smoothed. A second later, he shot her a cold glance and turned to walk out.
Melody Monroe quickly chased after him and, in her haste, grabbed his arm.
Evan Fairchild stopped and looked down at the hand on his arm, snapping with disgust, "Let go!"
Melody Monroe quickly snatched her hand back.
’She suddenly remembered a scene from the original novel. When Evan Fairchild found out about his night with the original Melody, he genuinely wanted to kill her!’
Looking at Evan Fairchild’s grim expression, fear instantly flooded her eyes.
’How could I be so completely infatuated! This was the man who wanted me dead!’
"I’m sorry. I just wanted to thank you."
"I just happened to be passing by."
"Regardless, I’m still very grateful."
"If you didn’t want to be here, why come to this kind of event?"
"Are you saying I want to act like a slut but be treated like a saint?"
Evan Fairchild’s gaze darkened. Without a word, he started walking away.
Melody Monroe watched his retreating figure and smiled bitterly.
’Evan Fairchild and the original Melody were from two completely different worlds. One was like the radiant moon—noble and untouchable—while the other was lower than dust, someone anyone could trample on. Their difference in status was an unbridgeable chasm.’
’That was why, in the novel, when Evan Fairchild realized he’d lost his virginity to someone like the original Melody, his first reaction was one of utter disgust. It was, without a doubt, the greatest stain on his life.’
’The only reason he had tolerated the original Melody for so long was because of Ian Monroe.’
’He didn’t love her, but she had been madly in love with him.’
"Sigh..." Melody Monroe let out a long sigh.
Suddenly, she felt a weight on her shoulders. A large suit jacket had been draped over them.
Evan Fairchild had returned.
"P-President Fairchild, this..." Melody Monroe quickly took the jacket off, holding it up with both hands. "There’s no need, President Fairchild. I still haven’t had a chance to return the last one."
"If you wanted to return it, you’ve had plenty of opportunities. Unless... you don’t want to."
’How could she possibly not want to return his jacket! What would she keep it for? Just looking at it reminded her of him, and thinking of him terrified her!’
"I... I..." Melody Monroe hadn’t expected to run into Evan Fairchild at the airport. If she had known, she would have definitely asked Talia to bring the jacket with her.
"You have my contact information."
His words only made Melody Monroe more embarrassed. ’She did have it, but she’d thrown it away.’
’She had thrown it away precisely because she wanted nothing more to do with Evan Fairchild. She never imagined she would run into him here again.’
"Do you intend to stand here and let everyone stare at you?"
Melody Monroe quickly draped the jacket over her shoulders. It was just enough to cover her wet clothes.
His warmth still lingered on the fabric. The moment it touched her skin, she grew so tense it felt like every pore on her body had opened. Having been single her entire life, she had never experienced such a feeling.
"Thank you."
"Are you interested in joining Starfall Entertainment?"
"AHEM!" A sudden cough rang out. Hiding nearby and eavesdropping, Jasper Rockwell nearly fell out of his chair.
’The great President Fairchild, acting as his own talent scout?’
’Oho! Something’s going on here! There is definitely something going on!’
Melody Monroe looked up at Evan Fairchild in surprise.
’He’s already founded Starfall Entertainment?’
"No, I don’t," she blurted out.
