Chapter 35: Chapter 35: No, She’s Blind
Director Wendy immediately stood up, walked over to Melody Monroe, and introduced her to the others. "This is Melody Monroe, an actress with Stellaris."
"Rose Shaw has great taste."
"Indeed. They don’t call her a top agent for nothing."
The men all voiced their agreement.
Few men could resist her beauty.
Director Wendy continued the introductions. "Melody, this is President King, this is President Sinclair, and this is President Lewis."
"President King, President Sinclair, President Lewis," Melody greeted each of them in turn.
"Come, come, have a seat," President King quickly beckoned.
Seeing his enthusiasm, the person beside him immediately gave up their seat.
"I can just sit here," Melody demurred.
"Come sit here. It will be easier to talk," President King insisted.
Director Wendy gestured with a hand, indicating that Melody should go over.
The moment Melody sat down, President King grabbed a bottle and poured her a glass. "Why didn’t Rose Shaw introduce you to me sooner?"
"President King, I don’t drink."
"It’s fine. Just one glass," President King said, raising the cup to Melody’s lips.
Melody had no choice but to take the glass. "In that case, allow me to propose a toast to everyone."
"Excellent, excellent! Come on, cheers!" The others also raised their glasses.
Melody took a sip, and a bitter taste flooded her mouth. ’Alcohol is truly awful.’ She forced it down. The moment she set her glass on the table, President King refilled it to the brim.
"Melody... a beautiful name," President King said, turning to her. "What have you acted in?"
"I’ve just started out, so I’m still a newcomer. Right now, I’m playing a role on Director Wallace’s set."
"The female lead?"
"Not the female lead. It’s just a small part."
"The second female lead, then?" President King asked.
"No, it’s not."
President King’s expression turned serious. He pointed at Director Wendy and declared, "I’m investing in this film! Melody Monroe has to play the female lead! Money is no object!"
"If President King says so, then there’s no problem!"
"Don’t worry," he said to Melody. "From now on, as long as I’m backing you, you’ll only play the lead."
"Thank you for the kind offer, President King, but I’m just a newcomer. I don’t have any credits to my name or a fanbase. Director Wendy is so acclaimed, I’m afraid I wouldn’t do the role justice. We should forget about the lead role. I’d feel fortunate just to have any part in Director Wendy’s film."
"Melody, who doesn’t want to be the lead? I think you’re perfect for the role. Being a newcomer isn’t a problem. I trust Rose Shaw’s judgment—anyone she’s scouted is guaranteed to be good," Director Wendy interjected. He couldn’t ask for a better outcome than President King so eagerly funding his movie.
"Exactly! With a director as professional as Wendy, what is there to be afraid of? With me here, you have nothing to fear, you hear?" President King’s gaze roamed over Melody’s body, his intentions now completely unveiled.
Melody smiled and nodded. ’How could I not understand President King’s insinuation?’
’It seemed I was about to get a taste of the casting couch.’
Evan Fairchild had only taken a few steps when he spotted Melody Monroe.
He didn’t recognize a single person around her. ’Anyone I don’t know must be a complete nobody.’
’The woman who threw away my business card is now forcing a smile for a small-timer like that?!’
’This woman is an idiot!’
’No, she’s blind!’
Evan Fairchild tugged at his collar, undoing the top button of his shirt. His gaze, fixed in her direction, grew several shades sharper.
