Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Do I Get Unlucky Whenever I Meet Him?
Ian Monroe would wake up at 6:30 AM sharp every morning.
Sitting up in bed, he immediately turned on his smartwatch. A message was waiting for him.
"My Ian, my little treasure, Mommy’s precious little darling..."
A smile touched his lips, but as he listened on, it slowly faded into disappointment.
Mommy couldn’t come home to be with him today.
But Mommy had to go to work.
’It’s okay. Ian will just wait at home for Mommy.’
The little fellow deftly climbed out of bed, opened his small wardrobe, and started getting dressed. Though he wasn’t very skilled yet, and his movements were slow and even a bit clumsy, he still did everything himself, one piece at a time.
Once dressed, he faced the mirror to straighten his askew clothes. Suddenly, he noticed a button on his collar was undone. He immediately turned back to the mirror and meticulously fastened it.
Whenever he wore clothes with buttons, not a single one could be left undone; they all had to be buttoned up perfectly.
For one so young, he already exuded a surprisingly calm and composed aura.
When Ian Monroe walked out of his room, the nanny had already prepared breakfast. Seeing that he had woken up on his own, she hurried over to embrace him.
Ian Monroe sidestepped the nanny’s touch and walked to the dining table by himself.
The nanny immediately set out his food. Watching Ian, she once again marveled at what a low-maintenance child he was!
Her name was Joanna Owen, and she had been recommended by Rose Shaw. She was professionally trained and, most importantly, was kind and reliable. Melody Monroe had hired her immediately after their first meeting.
After finishing a bowl of porridge, Ian Monroe handed his small bowl over. "Auntie, I’d like another bowl."
"You’re doing so well today, Ian, eating so much!" Joanna Owen, who adored children, immediately went to get Ian another bowl of porridge.
Ian lowered his head and focused on eating his porridge.
’Mommy said I need to eat a lot, and I’m the best at listening to Mommy.’
...
After boarding the plane, Melody Monroe was still groggy with sleep.
She hadn’t slept well the previous night, her dreams filled with writing a thesis paper.
So when the alarm went off and she opened her eyes, she was still in a daze. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if she was that college sophomore or the Melody Monroe of the present. She had to stare at herself in the mirror for a long time before she came back to her senses.
The plane took off on schedule. Once it was cruising smoothly, Melody Monroe said to Talia Mercer, "I’m going to try and get some more sleep."
"Okay, go ahead. We still have two hours left."
Before long, a flight attendant came by with a drink cart. As she was pouring water for a passenger, her hand slipped and the cup toppled over!
Melody Monroe was jolted awake. She felt one of her shoulders was damp.
"I’m so sorry, ma’am," the flight attendant apologized hastily.
Melody realized not much water had gotten on her; it was the seat that was soaked. The flight attendant immediately helped unbuckle her seatbelt to keep the water on the seat from getting her clothes any wetter.
"Ma’am, we are so sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you," another flight attendant hurried over to apologize.
"It’s alright." Melody shook her head, having no intention of making a fuss.
"You can’t sit here anymore. We have an available seat in first class, so we’d like to upgrade you. Would you please follow us to your new seat?"
"Okay."
The flight attendant led Melody to the first-class cabin and stopped by a seat. "Ma’am, you can take this seat here."
Melody saw that someone was already in the aisle seat, their back turned to her.
Seeing someone approach, the man very gentlemanly stood up to let her in.
Evan Fairchild!
Melody froze, her mind buzzing with a loud BUZZ!
’Why him again?’
’Is it my fate to be unlucky every time I run into him?’
