Chapter 24: Blood and Betrayal

The safe house was quiet except for the soft beeping of medical monitors. Anya lay in the large bed, her silver hair spread across the pillow like moonlight. The cure had stabilized her, but the virus had left her weak. She watched Dmitri as he stood by the window, staring out into the dark Moscow night.

He had not slept. The lines of exhaustion on his face only made him look more dangerous.

"You should rest," Anya said softly.

Dmitri turned and walked to the bed. He sat beside her and pulled her into his arms, holding her close. For a long moment he just breathed her in.

"I almost lost you," he whispered. "Twice. I will not let it happen again."

Anya nestled against his chest. "I am still here. Thanks to you."

He tilted her chin up and kissed her slowly, deeply. The kiss started tender but quickly grew heated. Dmitri’s hand slid under the sheet, finding her already wet for him.

"Even now..." he murmured against her lips. "Your body still wants me."

He pushed two fingers inside her gently, stroking her as he kissed her again. Anya moaned softly into his mouth. He took his time, bringing her to a slow, shuddering orgasm before pulling his fingers out and licking them clean.

"Not now," he said when she reached for him. "You need rest. When you are stronger, I will fuck you for days."

He held her until she fell asleep, but his mind was already planning the next move.

The following morning, Elena joined them in the war room. The other Blood Carrier looked pale but determined.

"The Syndicate is not just after us," Elena explained. "They have been collecting rare bloodlines for years. They believe they can create a perfect super soldier serum. With both of us, they could succeed."

Dmitri’s jaw tightened. "Then we hit them before they can regroup. We find their main lab and destroy it."

One of his captains spoke up. "We have a location. An underground facility beneath an old Soviet bunker. But it is heavily defended."

Dmitri nodded. "We strike tonight."

Anya, who had been listening quietly, suddenly stood up. "I am coming with you."

Dmitri immediately shook his head. "No. You are still recovering."

"I am not staying behind again," she said firmly. "This is my blood they are using. My life. I want to fight."

Dmitri stared at her. The woman who had once been his captive now stood before him as an equal. Pride and worry warred in his eyes.

"Stay close to me," he finally said. "If anything happens to you..."

"I know," she replied softly.

---

That night, they moved on the bunker.

The assault was brutal. Dmitri’s forces hit hard and fast. Anya stayed right beside him, armed and determined. She was not a warrior, but she refused to be a burden.

They fought their way through the outer defenses. When they reached the inner lab, they found rows of test subjects and scientists working on the new serum.

Elena moved quickly, gathering data and samples while Dmitri and his men cleared the room.

But as they were about to destroy the lab, the doors sealed shut. A voice came over the speakers.

"You walked right into our trap, Thorn."

It was the woman with the cold blue eyes again.

"You wanted the cure? Here it is."

Gas began pouring into the room. Dmitri grabbed Anya and held her close, trying to cover her mouth.

"Stay with me," he growled.

The gas was not lethal. It was something else. A powerful sedative mixed with a new strain of the virus.

Anya’s vision started to blur. She felt Dmitri’s arms tighten around her as he fought to stay conscious.

When she woke up, she was in a different facility. Luxurious but cold. Her wrists were chained to a medical chair. Elena was chained beside her.

The woman with blue eyes stood in front of them.

"Welcome to the real Syndicate," she said. "We have been waiting for both of you."

Dmitri woke up in a separate cell. His silver eyes burned with fury as he tested the reinforced chains holding him.

A speaker crackled to life.

"Relax, Thorn. Your precious girl is alive. For now. We are going to run some tests. If you behave, we might even let you watch."

Dmitri roared and pulled at the chains with everything he had.

The war had entered a new, darker phase.

And both Blood Carriers were now in the hands of the true enemy.
