Chapter 5: Chapter 4: Why Did You Have to Provoke Him?
She could only pat her shoulder lightly and say, "Please... please don’t cry... Mom."
At her words, Wendy Sutton’s sobs subsided a little, but she still wouldn’t let go of Yvonne Lowell.
Charles Lowell stepped forward, wanting to embrace both mother and daughter, but Wendy Sutton shot him a glare and pulled her daughter even tighter into her arms.
Charles Lowell: ’...Right. So she’s *your* daughter, and I don’t get a share, huh?’
It was Caleb Lowell who couldn’t watch any longer. "Mom," he said, "Nola has been standing for a while. Her legs must be sore."
"Yes, yes, of course! Let’s go inside. What is everyone just standing around for? Don’t tire my Nola out. Honestly, not a single one of you has any sense." Wendy Sutton immediately let go of Yvonne Lowell and pulled her inside.
Charles Lowell, Harrison Lowell, and Yancy Lowell could only think, ’So?’
They had no choice but to follow their wife and daughter/mom and sister inside.
Wendy Sutton pulled her to the sofa, still holding her hand tightly. Her lips moved several times; there was so much she wanted to say, but she didn’t know where to begin and could only sit there, shedding endless tears.
Seeing her in such a state, Yvonne Lowell felt an unexplainable pang in her heart. Her hands moved faster than her thoughts, grabbing a tissue to wipe away her mother’s tears.
Sensing several pairs of eyes on her, she looked up to find the trio of father and sons still staring at her expectantly.
She pressed her lips together slightly. "Dad, Second Brother, Third Brother."
The tense expressions on their faces instantly broke into smiles.
’Our daughter/sister is alive! And she’s real!’
Charles Lowell walked behind the sofa and wrapped his arms around both mother and daughter, his eyes slightly red. "It’s good you’re back. It’s good you’re back."
Yancy Lowell sat down directly to Yvonne Lowell’s right. "Nola, can you roll up your right sleeve for a second?"
Yvonne Lowell was a little confused, but she did as he asked.
He then pressed his own left arm against hers, and the moment their birthmarks lined up, his smile grew even wider.
Realizing what he was doing, Yvonne Lowell couldn’t help but twitch her lips. ’This is the high-IQ genius who got into the special program for gifted youth?’
Yvonne Lowell had a birthmark on her upper right arm, and Yancy Lowell had one on his upper left, both shaped like an obtuse angle. When brought together, they formed a capital "Y." This was why their names, Yvonne and Yancy, both started with a Y.
Harrison Lowell looked from one to the other, feeling completely left out. ’So frustrating!’
He turned to see the leisurely Caleb Lowell and couldn’t resist stirring the pot. "Big Brother, Nola didn’t call out to you just now~"
"She already did, right after the report came out." Caleb Lowell crossed his legs, not forgetting to take a light sip of his tea.
"What the hell?!" Harrison Lowell’s eyes went wide.
Caleb didn’t even spare him a glance. "Hm? How did you know Nola was the one who approached me? That’s right. She had lunch with me and even put food on my plate."
Harrison Lowell was so angry he wanted to commit fratricide, but he didn’t dare. He could only pinch the spot above his upper lip to keep from fainting.
Once Wendy Sutton had composed herself, she pulled Yvonne Lowell up to go upstairs, with the four men following close behind.
"I’ve kept your room for you all these years. I had the maids clean it every day, just hoping you’d come back one day. I’ll take you to see it. If you don’t like it, we’ll have someone renovate it."
Upstairs, Yvonne Lowell looked at the Navia-style room. A childhood photo of her sat on the desk, and a wave of warmth washed over her heart.
Seeing her silence, Wendy Sutton thought she didn’t like it and nervously wrung her hands. "What do you think, Nola? Do you like it? If not, I’ll have someone change it right away."
"There’s no need. I like it a lot. Thank you, Mom."
"As long as you like it! I’ll have them send over some of the latest season’s clothes, shoes, and bags for you to choose from. Whatever you like, we’ll have it delivered immediately and fill up our walk-in closet!" Wendy Sutton said excitedly, holding her hand.
Yvonne Lowell’s heart softened inexplicably. "Okay. Thank you, Mom."
’It’s not that I lack money or designer clothes, but this feeling of being cherished... it’s actually pretty nice.’
Caleb Lowell spoke up at the right moment. "Why don’t we head down first and let Nola rest for a bit?"
Seeing Wendy Sutton’s reluctance, Caleb pressed on. "Mom, Nola hasn’t had your braised pork ribs in a long time. They used to be her favorite."
"Right! I’ll go make you ribs. You rest first. I’ll call you when it’s time to eat." With that, she pulled Charles Lowell out of the room.
The brothers also filed out. Caleb Lowell, the last to leave, gave Yvonne Lowell a smile before backing out and closing the door.
Yvonne Lowell reached out and stroked the photo on the desk. A feeling she had never experienced before washed over her, but it wasn’t bad.
Lying back on the large bed, she took out her phone just as a video call from Nina Jennings came in.
After she answered, Nina Jennings glanced at her background. "Yvonne, are you back at the Lowell estate?"
"Yeah."
"I knew it. You’ve never used bedsheets in that color. How’s it feel?" Nina Jennings had an ’I-told-you-so’ look on her face.
"It’s alright. Not bad."
"That’s good. Well, you take care. I’ll come find you in a bit."
"Go to the manor and pick out some gifts for me. Have them delivered here. I need them by tomorrow."
"Tsk, tsk. Finding your family really changes things, huh? You usually won’t even let me touch your things. Alright, how many do you need?"
"You figure it out; I have no experience with this. Just one for each member of the Lowell and Sutton Families. You can decide on the gifts for the younger generation. And pick out something you like for yourself."
"Yes, President Lowell~ I guarantee I’ll get it all arranged. They’ll be there tomorrow morning~"
"Mm, I’m hanging up." Without waiting for her to blabber on, Yvonne Lowell ended the call.
Nina Jennings: ’...Damn it!’
Yvonne Lowell lay on the bed, feeling drowsy. After an unknown amount of time, there was a knock on the door. She immediately opened her eyes and sat up.
Before she could speak, Harrison Lowell furtively pushed the door open. His gaze towards her held an unexplainable trace of pity and heartache.
"Hm? You’re awake, Nola. The clothes from the mall have arrived. Want to go down and pick some out?"
"Okay, I’ll be right there." Yvonne Lowell went into the bathroom to wash her face, then went downstairs with Harrison Lowell.
Harrison Lowell casually stepped forward and took her hand, feeling a secret thrill.
’My sister’s hand is still soft, just not as chubby as it was when she was little.’
When they got downstairs, Yvonne Lowell couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the scene.
The massive living room was filled with twenty to thirty sales associates and rows upon rows of clothing racks.
Only Caleb Lowell was still in the living room, his head bowed as he looked at his laptop.
"Nola, pick whatever you like. If you don’t like any of them, it’s fine. Those people over there are from bespoke brands; we’ll have them make clothes for you later. For now, just pick a few things to get by," Caleb Lowell said.
"Okay."
Yvonne Lowell picked out the ones that weren’t her style, and the sales associates helped organize the rest and move them into the walk-in closet.
After the associates left, Yvonne Lowell simply sat down in the living room instead of going back upstairs.
"Nola, look up at me," Harrison Lowell, who was beside her, suddenly said.
Yvonne Lowell, who had been looking down at her phone, looked up, and Harrison Lowell pressed the shutter button at the perfect moment.
"So beautiful. Can I post this on Weibo, Nola?" Harrison Lowell asked, tempted, as he looked at the photo in his gallery.
"Do what you want."
"Alrighty." Harrison Lowell grinned foolishly, opening Weibo and starting to compose a post.
Yvonne Lowell discreetly scooted away from him to avoid catching his silliness. ’After all, he doesn’t exactly look like the sharpest tool in the shed...’
[Harrison Lowell V: Welcome home, sis. [Image]]
And just like that, Harrison Lowell’s Weibo post shot to the top of the trending topics.
[AHHHH, I’M SWITCHING BIASES! SIS IS KILLING ME!!]
[His sister is sooooo gorgeous~]
[*Heavy breathing* Sis, I’m available!!]
[Harrison Lowell V: No, you’re not. This is my sister!]
[Tsk tsk, this Lowell guy is a confirmed sis-con.]
...
The comments were overwhelmingly congratulatory toward Harrison Lowell and full of praise for Yvonne Lowell’s beauty, but there were some trolls mixed in.
[Is she really his sister? Or is the company just promoting a new talent? Or maybe she’s his ’little sister’ lover?]
[Heh, the Lowell Group’s official account hasn’t said anything. This has to be fake.]
[That’s obviously a plastic surgery face. So fake.]
Harrison Lowell wasn’t one to let it slide. He personally replied to every negative comment.
[Harrison Lowell V: Promoting new talent? The company was practically made for me. Why would I promote talent *for* it?]
[Harrison Lowell V: I felt like it. I wanted to be the first to officially announce my sister’s return. You got a problem with that?]
[Harrison Lowell V: Don’t go ignoring your own sickness. Having your organs grow in the wrong place is a serious matter.]
[This brother and sister look like they were carved from the same mold. I wouldn’t believe they weren’t related.]
[LMAO, why would you provoke him? You think they call him the Mad Dog of Aurelian Entertainment for fun?]
When Harrison Lowell debuted, he never hid his identity as the Second Young Master of the Lowell Family.
At the time, haters called him an industry plant who only got roles because of his connections, but he didn’t care. When his work was released, his superb acting was a natural slap in their faces.
He had also said more than once in interviews that the reason he entered the entertainment industry was to find his sister. He wanted to stand on the highest podium so she could see him and find her way home.
...
Seeing Harrison, who had been so happy just moments before, now looking like he wanted to eat his phone, Yvonne Lowell was a little confused.
Just as she was about to ask what was wrong, he looked up and yelled at Caleb Lowell, "Big Brother, hurry up and get the company’s official account to announce her! They’re all talking shit about our sister!"
Caleb Lowell took the phone, and a fierce glint flashed in his eyes as he saw the malicious comments.
He called Assistant Grant. "I’m sending you the DNA test results. Retweet Second Brother’s Weibo post within five minutes. If it doesn’t trend, buy your way to the top. Collect all the negative comments and have the legal team sue them one by one."
After hanging up, he reached out and stroked Yvonne Lowell’s head. "Nola, it was my fault for not thinking this through. I’m sorry you had to go through this."
’What? I don’t even know what happened. What hardship did I just endure?’
’But I can guess. The netizens are probably saying some unpleasant things.’
’So, right now, just shaking my head is the most practical response.’
Seeing Yvonne Lowell’s obedient demeanor, Caleb Lowell’s heart softened even more, and he felt a deeper pang of guilt.
He directly asked Assistant Grant for the official account’s login details, forwarded the post himself, and attached the DNA test report.
[Lowell Group V: The one and only daughter of the Lowell Family.]
