The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 29 - 28: The Banquet Ends

Chapter 29: Chapter 28: The Banquet Ends

Holly Sutton had descended into complete madness.

"That’s because she deserved to die! They’re just a pair of bastards, what right do they have to fight me for my father? I am the true young lady of the Sutton family! You don’t have any evidence at all, you’re just spouting malicious lies! This is all fake!"

The words had barely left her mouth when a shard of glass flew from nowhere, slashing a cut across her face.

Director Hawthorne shot a subtle glare at Nina Jennings. ’This troublesome kid!’

’Wasn’t knocking out two of her teeth enough? Now you’ve gone and disfigured her face.’

’Don’t you know our department will have to pay for her medical bills?! Do you think we have an unlimited budget?!’

Nina Jennings: ’...Hey, why are you looking at me? I mean, I *wanted* to do something, but I haven’t even picked up a piece of glass yet!’

Silas Lynch: ’Yes! The gold-medal assistant strikes again, leaving no trace of his good deeds.’

"Tsk, tsk. This is why you should never lie. Karma comes for you sooner or later," Yvonne Lowell said nonchalantly, looking down at the hideous creature below.

"Without the support and resources from the Ford Family, your father, Hector Sutton, would be a low-level clerk at best. What kind of young lady do you think you are? You’re not even nouveau riche. Who gave you the right to bully others?

"Alright, Director Hawthorne, isn’t that arrest warrant in your pocket getting wrinkled by now? Time to get to work. Don’t keep the guests from going home."

Lines of frustration appeared on Director Hawthorne’s forehead. ’I haven’t been fiddling with it, it’s tucked in there perfectly fine! How could it possibly be wrinkled?!’

Nevertheless, he walked over with a few plainclothes officers and surrounded the three of them.

"Hector Sutton, for deliberately causing the car accident that resulted in the deaths of Jason Jacobs and Raina Avery, for poisoning Ms. Nancy Rivera, and on suspicion of tax evasion. Marilyn Walsh, for conspiring with Hector Sutton to murder Ms. Nancy Rivera and for child trafficking.

Holly Sutton, for drug use, school bullying resulting in the permanent disability of two individuals, and for spreading rumors and cyberbullying that led to one person committing suicide. The evidence is conclusive. You’re coming with us. Furthermore, Ethan Sutton is already in the detention center for drug use, organizing orgies, drunk driving resulting in three deaths, and fleeing the scene."

Holly Sutton continued to struggle.

"Impossible! You’re in league with them! I won’t accept this!"

"Open your eyes and look clearly. We conduct ourselves with integrity. If you don’t believe it, feel free to report us! We welcome supervision and whistleblowing from anyone, but we will not allow you to slander our reputation! Everything you just said has been recorded on audio and video, and I have the right to sue you for defamation!"

Director Hawthorne unfolded the arrest warrant and shoved it in her face. "Take them away."

Before leaving, Director Hawthorne didn’t forget to nod in acknowledgment to Yvonne Lowell and Elder Hawthorne, who had been watching from the side.

Hector Sutton hadn’t given up. As he was led past Zachary Jacobs, he kept shouting.

"Zion! Zion! It’s me, your dad! I’ve been thinking about you all these years, I’ve been looking for you! Save me, Dad needs you!"

"My father died long ago. He died the moment he plotted the car crash that killed my maternal grandparents. He died the moment he started slowly poisoning my mother. He died the moment he and his mistress conspired to sell my sister and me to human traffickers. He died the moment my sister gave her life to save me."

Zachary Jacobs stared straight at him, his eyes holding none of the affection a son should have for a father, only a cavernous hatred. "If I had a choice, I would wish I wasn’t your son. You should be grateful you were born in Aurelia. If we were in another country, you would have been dead by my hands long ago."

Harrison Lowell coughed lightly and quickly covered Zachary’s mouth.

"You mischievous kid, have you had too much to drink? Why are you spouting such drunken nonsense? Mr. Officer, please hurry and take them away. They’re bad luck."

The Officer: ’...Okay, but... I’m your fan, and I’m only two years older than you! Why are you calling me ’Mister’?!’ ◡ヽ(`Д´)ノ┻━┻

The three were cuffed and led away like stray dogs. The scene returned to a state of calm, but the guests didn’t dare to breathe, watching the two Living Yamas on stage with trepidation.

Yvonne Lowell nudged Leo Grant with her elbow, signaling for him to get off the stage.

’The two of them standing together just feels... weird somehow...’

Leo Grant felt the slight tickle through his suit, his eyes darkening a fraction as he obediently stepped down.

Yvonne Lowell then waved to the audience, beckoning Zachary Jacobs to the front of the stage.

Then, she smiled at the crowd and said, "This is my brother, Zachary Jacobs. He is the Vice Chairman of Pluto and the only remaining bloodline of Ms. Nancy Rivera. The Sutton family is gone, but the Ford Family will rise to glory once more. I hope everyone will look out for him in the future."

Everyone voiced their agreement. ’Could they afford not to? Could they win a fight against them? Could they risk provoking them?’

Just then, a voice, completely different from the others, rang out.

A young master cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted,

"Master Lunara, I’ve been a fan of yours for years! I’ve been following in your footsteps and learning to play musical instruments. Would it be possible to have the honor of hearing you perform a piece live?"

The young master’s father and mother, terrified, rushed in his direction. ’This foolish child!’

’Doesn’t he see what kind of occasion this is? Asking for a personal performance? Is he worthy?!’

The mother had just placed her hand on his ear, ready to twist it, when she unexpectedly heard a voice say,

"Of course."

Everyone was stunned. Today had truly been a rollercoaster of ups and downs. First, the Lowell family’s young lady had blown everyone away with her connections and status, then they witnessed a huge drama unfold, and now they might even get to see a live performance by Luna?!

"I learned the guqin because of my mother and my biological sister’s influence. I wanted to carry on the things they loved."

As Zachary Jacobs spoke, waiters had already brought up a guqin and a se.

Zachary Jacobs sat before the guqin. "Forgive me for stealing the spotlight today."

"Don’t be silly, we’re family!" Harrison Lowell shouted from below the stage.

"Yeah, that’s right!" the other brothers chimed in.

Zachary Jacobs smiled at them.

"This piece is called ’Moon.’ I composed it when I was thirteen, and my sister was only four. I was still a beginner back then, and my skills weren’t polished, so the audio has never been released."

With that, he began to play.

Experts in the audience could easily tell that a few of the transitions were indeed handled imperfectly, lacking a certain maturity.

But the music itself was clean and pure, laced with a thread of sorrow, as if telling a story of longing for someone.

Halfway through the piece, the music suddenly became melodious and graceful, injecting a glimmer of hope into the previously somber atmosphere.

It was like a person trapped in darkness suddenly seeing a sliver of light.

Perhaps remembering the past would always be sorrowful, and the longing would never cease, but those who are alive will continue to move forward.

When the piece ended, the entire hall was silent.

Zachary Jacobs froze for a second.

"It can’t be. Was it really that bad?"

The crowd snapped back to reality, and thunderous applause erupted. The young master from before was shouting again.

"Luna! Luna! I love you! Like a mouse loves rice! I want to marry you! I want to have your babies!"

"I’ll have to politely decline! I’m one hundred percent straight."

Zachary Jacobs couldn’t help but shiver, refusing repeatedly.

Thanks to that moment, the atmosphere became much more harmonious than before.

The banquet was also declared over at that moment, and everyone began to leave Lowell Manor one after another.

The Lowell and Sutton Families, Elder Hawthorne, and the four members of the Grant family remained.

Elder Hawthorne stood up, leaning on his cane, and spoke in a mild tone,

"Charles Lowell."

"Teacher, I’m here. Please, speak."

Charles Lowell walked to his side, bowing his body slightly.

"Let me be frank with you. I came today to back up Yvonne. You are one of the students I personally mentored, but you were by no means the most outstanding one.

"And don’t blame this old man for not reminding you. Here in Kingsland, I’m not the only one who treasures your daughter. You, kiddo..."

Elder Hawthorne raised his hand and pointed at him without finishing his sentence, but everyone understood the warning in his words.

Even though Charles Lowell was nearly fifty, he could only listen obediently to the lecture.

"Listen to you, sir. Nola is the treasure I’ve longed for my whole life and searched for for fifteen years. I can’t even dote on her enough. I understand what you mean. I won’t."
