Chapter 22: Chapter 21: The Centroid of the Triangle is Called Esther Rivera
At that moment, the three of them were in the study, staring at a monitor displaying surveillance footage.
The screen showed a private room in a bar, where a group of men and women were doing drugs together. In a corner, others were engaged in a full-blown orgy.
The scene was a picture of wanton debauchery.
A wicked smile played on Yvonne Lowell’s lips as she spoke into her phone. "Old Man Hawthorne, make your move. This achievement is being served to you on a silver platter, so make sure you grab it."
Instantly, a group of plainclothes officers burst into the private room, cuffing and hauling away all the spoiled brats in front of everyone.
Three of them, still entangled, had to be carried out piled on top of each other like a human stack. The shock sobered many of the onlookers, who whipped out their phones and frantically started taking photos and videos.
"Time for the marketing accounts on our payroll to get to work. Zoom in on Ethan Sutton’s face in high definition. Tag it with ’Son of Sutton Construction Chairman’ and ’Younger Brother of A-list starlet Holly Sutton.’ Then, release some of the old dirt on the Sutton Group and Holly Sutton. By tomorrow morning, the Suttons will be finished in Kingsland’s high society circles~" After speaking, Yvonne Lowell let out a wolf whistle.
Zachary Jacobs began issuing the orders, his expression a mixture of hatred and grim satisfaction.
"What about me? What about me? What can I do?" Nina Jennings asked from the side.
Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "Our ’fine gentleman’ has engaged in immoral conduct. Isn’t that the perfect reason to terminate his contract?"
"You’re on another level! Not only did you trick the Sutton Family into investing their entire fortune, but now we can cancel the contract without paying any penalties." Nina Jennings gave her a big thumbs-up.
A vicious glint flashed in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes. "This is just the beginning. The evidence has already been submitted, and the arrest warrant will be in Old Man Hawthorne’s hands soon. I want all four members of their family behind bars by Saturday. Tell Avis to clear his schedule and get to Aurelia before Saturday. His invitation to the return banquet is ready."
Nina Jennings looked disapproving. "No way. You never said you were going to cause a scene at the banquet! If Avis comes, won’t that be the same as openly announcing that we’re the ones who schemed against the Sutton Family? You just got back. What will other people, people who don’t know the truth, think of you?"
"Lowell, I understand what you’re trying to do. She was my sister too. I hate Hector Sutton as much as you do—I wish he’d drop dead—but you don’t have to sacrifice your reputation for this. And what about the Lowell Family..." Zachary Jacobs also disagreed.
"People who don’t know the truth? Then let’s make them know the truth. I want to bring this out into the open. My reputation doesn’t matter. Let other people think whatever they want; it’s not like they can take me down anyway. Exposing this at the banquet was Grandpa’s idea. We’re still keeping it from the rest of the family." Yvonne Lowell’s gaze drifted to the window, her voice becoming somewhat distant.
"I made her a promise nine years ago. And for fifteen years, my sister has been painted as the villain who ran away from home with her younger brother. Her name needs to be cleared. I’m not waiting any longer."
The two of them froze. Esther Rivera’s death was the deepest thorn in Yvonne’s heart. All these years, she had survived by clinging to Esther’s last words to her. But wasn’t the same true for them?
"Lowell..." Zachary Jacobs ran a hand through his hair in frustration, wanting to argue further.
Yvonne Lowell said nothing, only turning to look him straight in the eye, her gaze filled with unyielding determination.
"Oh, that’s enough! Let’s just do it, okay? The three of us can make a great life for ourselves anywhere, can’t we? If worst comes to worst, we’ll all just go back to Continent N. And even if that fails, we still have Uncle Quincy to take care of us." Nina Jennings held out her right hand, palm up, facing them.
Zachary Jacobs wiped a tear from the corner of his eye and extended his right hand as well.
Seeing this, Yvonne Lowell smiled, raised her hand, and placed it on top of theirs, forming a triangle.
This was the gesture they always made whenever they reached an agreement or successfully accomplished something.
A triangle is a stable shape, and the center of gravity for their triangle had always been a person named Esther Rivera.
...
While their side was filled with quiet resolve, dark clouds were gathering over the Sutton Family.
Swarms of marketing accounts began posting videos and pictures of Ethan Sutton’s arrest, and the topic instantly shot to the top of the trending lists.
Even after receiving several calls from business partners looking to terminate their contracts, Hector Sutton still hadn’t grasped the situation, still lost in the tender embrace of his secretary. He even spouted arrogant threats, telling them they’d live to regret it.
It wasn’t until an overseas call came from their major partner, Avis, that the reality began to sink in. The man said, "Given your company’s lack of integrity, it’s difficult for us to continue our partnership with confidence."
The secretary was the first to react, pushing Hector Sutton off her. She opened her phone, and the trending topic notification hit her like a thunderbolt from a clear sky.
She handed the phone to Hector Sutton. "Chairman, the Young Master has been arrested. It’s also dredged up a lot of old dirt on the company and the Young Miss."
"That little bastard! Get someone to take down the trending topic! Bury it!" Hector Sutton was so furious he smashed the phone.
Just as Hector Sutton and his secretary began their emergency damage control, a call came in from Marilyn Walsh.
The moment he answered, she was already wailing hysterically. "Old Man Sutton, something’s happened to Ethan! What are we going to do? You have to find someone to get him out!"
"Cry, cry, cry, all you know how to do is cry! You useless woman! You’ve cried away all my good fortune! The company is in chaos, and you want me to bail out that little animal? Let him sober up in there for a while." With that, he hung up.
Seeing that Hector Sutton was no help, Marilyn Walsh called Holly Sutton instead.
Holly Sutton was clearly annoyed, but she kept her voice patient. "Mom, it’s been less than two hours since it happened. Even if we wanted to get him out, we can’t do it this fast. I’ve been dragged into this mess because of Ethan. I’ve already lost several endorsement deals, and my agent just chewed me out. My situation isn’t the priority; the company is. Why don’t we just let him stay in there for now? Dad and I will look for a chance to get him out later. Don’t worry. Just try to get some sleep. I’m in an emergency meeting right now. I’ll come home when I have a free moment."
...
「Saturday arrived. The day of Yvonne Lowell’s return banquet.」
At Lowell Manor, though the banquet had yet to officially begin, guests were already flocking in. Wine flowed freely as people mingled, many already starting to expand their business networks.
Yvonne Lowell sat on the windowsill in her room, gazing at the scenery outside. Her grandfather’s words from that afternoon echoed in her ears: "Nola, do whatever you feel you must. Grandpa will have your back."
A smile touched her lips. Her red lips moved as she murmured softly, "Sister, I’m home... And I’ll get your home back for you, too. Don’t you worry."
A knock sounded at the door before Caleb Lowell pushed it open, his brow slightly furrowed. "Nola, what are you doing sitting on the windowsill? It’s not safe."
"I’m fine, Brother. What’s up?" Yvonne Lowell hopped down from the sill and walked over to him.
Caleb Lowell patted her head with a helpless sigh. "It’s time for your hair and makeup. And don’t be so reckless next time. If you like the windowsill so much, I’ll have someone install a proper bay window for you."
"Okay. Thanks, Brother."
The siblings went to the dressing room. He had specially invited Victoria, a renowned stylist in the industry, for the occasion.
