Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Devouring the Rule

The unknown is always fraught with danger. In the instant she was enveloped, Xu Qingsui closed her eyes as if accepting her fate.

But a warm current dispelled the chill in her heart. A sense of comfort washed over her, releasing all the tension from her body.

Her spiritual power began to thrum, surprisingly resonating with the blue light.

She opened her eyes in pleasant surprise, only to find herself in a thin blue mist.

Her body felt as if a switch had been flipped, and she began to draw the blue mist into herself.

Although she didn’t know what was happening, the pleasure blooming in her Sea of Consciousness told her that this was a good thing.

Xu Qingsui stopped overthinking it and immediately focused, greedily absorbing the surrounding blue mist.

Meanwhile, Lu Jingyu and the others, who had been pushed aside by Xu Qingsui, had luckily dodged the Orca Whale’s attack.

The unluckiest member was only hit by the massive wave created by the Orca Whale, suffering some scrapes and bruises after being slammed to the ground.

Throughout the entire process, Lu Jingyu’s stunned gaze was fixed on the spot where Xu Qingsui had disappeared.

He only snapped back to his senses when the Orca Whale slammed into the gate with a deafening crash.

His lips moved, and he suddenly realized he didn’t even know the name of the guide who had just soothed him.

The Orca Whale’s enormous body separated him from the guide, making it impossible to know her condition.

A sense of anxiety welled up inside him, and a hint of crimson began to stain his pupils.

Although the gate was gradually swallowing the Orca Whale’s body, its immense size made it difficult to get past and check the situation on the other side.

He couldn’t wait! He had to see that woman right now and make sure she was okay.

Lu Jingyu slowly raised his right hand. Veins bulged on his entire right arm as black markings surfaced on his skin.

"Cap... Captain..."

The team members noticed the change in Lu Jingyu. Their pupils dilated, and they instinctively backed away.

This was a sign of the captain going berserk. They were already nothing before an SSS level sentinel, let alone a berserk SSS level sentinel.

"Captain, you need to calm down..."

"Miss guide, are you okay! Our captain is about to go berserk again..."

The men called out, but no one dared to approach.

Lu Jingyu had already shut off his five senses. His mind was consumed by a single thought—’Find her!’

He placed his right hand on the Orca Whale’s skin and pressed down slightly. A long-suppressed power erupted from his right arm, which was now covered in black markings.

BOOM!

With a tremendous explosion, the entire deep-sea world began to tremble.

SPLAT!

The Orca Whale’s body burst open, and a mixture of red and white matter rained down like snow.

Faintly, the team could now see the Orca Whale’s internal organs.

They just had no time to spare for a closer look right now, otherwise they would have been astonished to find that the internal organs of the Orca Whale, which had been so full of life just moments ago, had all turned a grayish-black.

It was as if it had been dead for thousands of years, its entire body calcified and turned to ash.

Lu Jingyu’s strike was not weak, but the mutated Orca Whale was simply too massive.

Failing to see Xu Qingsui after a single blow, Lu Jingyu’s blood-red eyes bulged, and the black markings on his arm spread to his neck.

The markings were like living black threadworms, wriggling as they crept up from his chin.

Within the Sea of Consciousness, the blue mist was almost gone.

Instead, a faint blue glow now enveloped Xu Qingsui’s entire body.

Her face was full of contentment, as if she were asleep and having a pleasant dream.

The sudden tremor startled her awake.

Xu Qingsui frowned slightly, still savoring the comfortable feeling from before.

Suddenly, a rampaging, tyrannical aura washed over her, and she froze.

She had just experienced the same aura twice before. Realizing what was happening, she immediately withdrew from the Orca Whale’s Sea of Consciousness.

Just as Xu Qingsui’s spiritual power returned to her body, the Orca Whale and the blue gate blocking everyone’s path dissolved into motes of light and vanished before their very eyes.

The sudden change first stunned the squad members, but then they all jumped to the conclusion that their captain’s previous attack had destroyed not only the Orca Whale, but also the blue gate that represented the rules of the instance.

For a moment, they forgot their fear and looked at Lu Jingyu with excitement, marveling at the true power of an SSS level sentinel.

The change before him did not affect Lu Jingyu. He continued to stare straight ahead as the power within his body gathered in his right hand.

The black markings were about to cover his chiseled jaw. He mobilized his power, and just as he was about to unleash it again, a figure appeared before him like a flash of lightning.

Lu Jingyu had no time to see who it was and raised his right hand to meet them.

But the figure was a step ahead of him, using their own body as a restraint and pulling Lu Jingyu directly into an embrace.

"Shhh, it’s okay. You can relax now."

A delicate fragrance was the first thing to break through Lu Jingyu’s sealed senses, followed by a pleasant voice sounding by his ear.

Lu Jingyu’s taut nerves instantly unraveled. The black markings receded rapidly, and his head tilted to the side, coming to rest on her fragrant shoulder.

Xu Qingsui gently pressed his head against her shoulder and smoothed out his messy hair.

The hot, damp breaths on her neck and shoulder sent a ticklish sensation through her.

But as she soothed him, his breathing grew steadier, and the strange feeling it caused gradually subsided.

The moment she had woken up, she saw Lu Jingyu’s condition.

She didn’t know why he was on the verge of going berserk again and didn’t dare to overthink it, rushing forward to calm his emotions.

Within two or three minutes, Lu Jingyu, now completely pacified, began to snore evenly.

[Congratulations, Host, for obtaining 30% Trust and 30% Dependence from SSS level sentinel Lu Jingyu. Reward: Spiritual Power +5]

Hearing the snores, the others were startled into realizing that their captain had just been on the brink of a rampage.

They hurried to surround them but were stopped by Xu Qingsui, who raised a hand.

Lu Jingyu had nearly gone berserk twice in a row; he needed to rest properly.

Even without her saying anything, the others had thought of the same thing.

They wordlessly fanned out, forming a protective circle around the two to guard against any other infected creatures that might appear.

Inside the circle, Lu Jingyu leaned on Xu Qingsui’s shoulder, the two of them nestled together in silence.

While Lu Jingyu enjoyed a comfortable sleep, Xu Qingsui took the opportunity to ask the Golden Octopus for clarification.

’What was that blue mist I was absorbing in the Orca Whale’s Sea of Consciousness? Why didn’t this happen with the blue-ringed octopus before?’

[Congratulations, Host. The Orca Whale violated the rules and was thus erased. As you were devouring the Orca Whale’s spirit body at the moment it was connected to the rules, you devoured the rules as well, resulting in a great boost to your spiritual power.]

Xu Qingsui was astonished. "The rules can be devoured?"

[Yes, the rules also exist as a type of spirit body. Furthermore, the rules are superior to living organisms, so they are more beneficial for boosting the Host’s spiritual power.]

Xu Qingsui’s heart leaped with joy. No wonder her spiritual power had been thrumming with excitement when she was absorbing the blue mist.

If that was the case, then from now on, she could focus on absorbing rules to level up even faster.

"Mmm~"

As she was lost in her fantasy, a sharp pain on her neck and shoulder made her let out an involuntary whimper.
