Chapter 33: Chapter 33: I’ll Fight You to the Death

Shen Ling’an hadn’t pulled out a weapon in that situation, which could only mean he didn’t possess one at the time.

And yet, in just a few short days, Shen Ling’an had somehow acquired such a weapon.

’What on earth happened to him these past few days?’

He recalled how Qi Qin had brought up that incident to persuade the two of them to join the Heiyu Alliance.

Lu Jingyu’s first thought was that Qi Qin had given Shen Ling’an the weapon, but he immediately dismissed the idea.

He’d known Qi Qin for a long time, and their relationship had been decent before this incident.

If Qi Qin had a weapon like that, it was impossible that he wouldn’t have known about it.

’In that case, there must be someone else involved.’

’Getting Qi Qin to persuade me was likely that person’s doing as well.’

Lu Jingyu’s eyes narrowed as he watched Shen Ling’an.

’Who exactly is backing Shen Ling’an? Someone who can not only gift such a powerful weapon so easily but also convince Qi Qin to approach me.’

’And what is this person’s ultimate goal?’

Lu Jingyu’s expression was heavy with thought, a stark contrast to the others who were simply watching Shen Ling’an fight the giant boar.

Xu Qingsui sensed the change in Lu Jingyu and asked in a low voice, "What’s wrong? Did you notice something?"

Having just transmigrated, and being a guide, Xu Qingsui was clearly not as experienced in combat as Lu Jingyu.

Watching Shen Ling’an fight, she could sense his techniques were much sharper than when he’d fought the giant cat, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on what was wrong.

She found it absolutely unbelievable that Shen Ling’an could have improved so fundamentally in just a few short days.

’After all,’ she thought, ’given his condition back then, it’s a miracle he even recovered his strength in just a few days.’

So when she saw Lu Jingyu’s expression, her first thought was that he must have noticed it too.

She hoped Lu Jingyu could give her some answers.

Lu Jingyu glanced at Xu Qingsui, nodding before immediately shaking his head.

"I’ve noticed something interesting, but I can’t quite figure out what’s going on yet. Let’s just keep watching. That wretched pair must have found themselves a powerful backer."

Lu Jingyu was so frank that even he was a little surprised with himself after he’d spoken.

’We haven’t known each other long, yet I’ve already let my guard down completely around her.’

Xu Qingsui ignored Lu Jingyu’s surprise, her gaze returning to Shen Ling’an with newfound scrutiny.

’They found a backer? Could that be why they joined the Heiyu Alliance?’

’But if that’s the case, why was Lu Jingyu avoiding me these past few days?’

Meanwhile, with a weapon in hand, Shen Ling’an’s confidence had soared.

That was precisely why he had dared to volunteer for this fight, despite having just recovered from grave injuries.

He stared coldly at the roaring boar, picturing it as Lu Jingyu as he swung his weapon, which whistled through the air.

As he brandished the weapon, one could see it wasn’t a simple cylinder, but a pointed instrument similar to an Emei dagger.

There was one difference, however. While the point of an Emei dagger is straight, the tip of his weapon was barbed.

The moment the incredibly sharp point pierced the skin, the barb would tear away a chunk of flesh upon being pulled out.

By exploiting this feature, he had already inflicted numerous wounds on the giant boar.

The skin around the wounds was torn, with large flaps of flesh hanging loose.

Scarlet blood streamed from the gashes, dyeing the massive boar red.

The sight of all that crimson only made Shen Ling’an more excited.

’It was as if he could already see Lu Jingyu, battered and broken, begging him for mercy.’

Fueled by excitement, he raised his weapon and charged the giant boar again.

By now, the blood-drenched boar was in a complete frenzy.

Its blood-red eyes looked ready to burst from their sockets.

Seeing Shen Ling’an charge again, the giant boar opened its mouth wide and let out a blast of fetid air.

Then, its mouthful of buck teeth began to lengthen, the tips sharpening into tusks.

Tusks growing inside its mouth even pierced through its own skin, jutting out from its cheeks.

A large volume of green mucus suddenly shot out from its enormous nostrils, flying toward Shen Ling’an.

Shen Ling’an, ever arrogant and fastidious, frowned at the sight of the dark green slime.

Just as the slime was about to hit him, he twisted his body to dodge.

But just as he dodged, a powerful gust of wind rushed toward him.

The hulking boar had launched itself like a cannonball straight at Shen Ling’an.

By the time Shen Ling’an realized what was happening, it was too late to dodge. He was sent flying by the impact.

Shen Ling’an felt as if he’d been run over by a tank, all his internal organs crushed together.

As Shen Ling’an plummeted back to the ground, the spectating team members scattered in a panic.

It wasn’t that they were disloyal; the force was just too immense.

If they tried to catch him, they’d likely get seriously injured themselves.

BAM!

Shen Ling’an hit the ground so hard it seemed to shake.

Sprawled on his back, the wind was knocked out of him, and he couldn’t catch his breath for a long moment.

But the boar had already been enraged by him and wasn’t about to give him time to recover.

The corpulent beast descended from the sky, hurtling straight for Shen Ling’an.

As the boar’s body grew larger and larger in his vision, Shen Ling’an finally panicked.

’Just getting hit sent me flying and nearly killed me.’

’If this behemoth lands on top of me, I’m definitely a goner.’

’I just joined the Heiyu Alliance! I haven’t replaced Lu Jingyu yet! I can’t die like this!’

At this thought, he began to release the restriction in his body, activating his Frenzy Power.

At the last possible second, he used his Frenzy Power to escape from under the descending boar.

Dashing behind the boar, he raised his hands—now covered in dark green markings—and seized its tail, brutally swinging the massive beast into the air.

After spinning it twice, he let go, and the boar’s enormous body went flying.

He watched the soaring boar smugly, thinking he’d gotten revenge for being knocked flying moments before.

But the surrounding onlookers stared, their eyes wide with horror, at the direction the boar was flying.

The West District chemical plant!

The boar was heading directly for the chemical plant in the West District.

With its massive body and incredible momentum, it would surely demolish the plant on impact.

If that happened, the plant’s contaminants would undoubtedly leak—the one thing they wanted to avoid at all costs.

SMACK!

While Shen Ling’an was still reveling in his triumph, a heavy slap struck him across the face.

Shen Ling’an was sent flying, not even realizing what had happened by the time he hit the ground.

By the time he recovered his senses, he saw a figure rushing toward the airborne boar.

Shen Ling’an’s gaze focused. When he recognized Lu Jingyu’s back, his eyes flew wide and he scrambled up from the ground.

"Lu Jingyu! I’m going to kill you!"
