Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Asura Battlefield

Before Lu Jingyu left, he specifically instructed Meng Donghua.

And since Xu Qingsui had saved his life, Meng Donghua didn’t want her to risk her life with them.

"I’m also a member of the Heiyu Alliance, and I have nothing else to do. It’s only right that I go to the scene and help. You don’t need to worry. If something really happens to me, it’ll be my own fault, not yours."

"Guide, I’m not afraid of taking responsibility. The scene is just really chaotic, and the boss isn’t here. I’m worried you’ll get hurt," Meng Donghua said earnestly.

Xu Qingsui walked over to him, holding Apocalypse, and said, "It’s fine. If the fear of getting hurt could stop me, I wouldn’t have entered that instance with you all last time."

Meng Donghua fell silent. Knowing he couldn’t convince Xu Qingsui, he had no choice but to take her with him.

On the way, he kept reminding Xu Qingsui that if she encountered any danger, she had to prioritize her own safety.

Xu Qingsui agreed, and only then did Meng Donghua stop repeating himself.

Along the way, besides Meng Donghua’s nagging, Xu Qingsui also ran into two acquaintances—Xu Ruming and Shen Ling’an.

The despicable couple saw her as well.

Shen Ling’an had been showered with praise by a few Heiyu Alliance members these past few days, and his confidence was through the roof.

When he saw Xu Qingsui again, his chin was practically pointed at the sky, as if making a show of defiance toward her.

Xu Ruming looked at Xu Qingsui with a complex expression in her eyes. It started with suspicion, then slowly morphed into hatred.

Because of Shen Ling’an’s berserk episode, she had spent the last few days busy soothing and healing him.

She only had free time today, so she asked around about Xu Qingsui.

When she learned from a member that Xu Qingsui was an A level Guide, she lost control and yelled, "Impossible!"

She had always projected a gentle and graceful image, so her sudden outburst startled the other person, who kept glancing at her.

Forcing herself to control her emotions, she made an excuse for herself and continued to press for details about what had happened.

But before the person could elaborate, the base’s alarm sounded. Helpless, she had no choice but to drop the matter and rush to the scene with everyone else.

She kept thinking about it the whole way there. She wanted to tell Shen Ling’an several times but never managed to say the words.

Before she could figure out the situation, she decided to keep it from Shen Ling’an, in case he had another incident.

Just as she was thinking this, she saw Xu Qingsui.

Seeing Xu Qingsui glance at her before looking away, Xu Ruming felt like her lungs were about to explode with rage.

’She’s just some country bumpkin from the backwoods,’ she told herself repeatedly. ’Her level could never be higher than mine.’

She imagined that Xu Qingsui must have used some underhanded means to create this persona of an A level Guide and deceive everyone.

The more she thought about it, the more excited she became, as if she had been there to witness it herself.

’I’ll expose Xu Qingsui in front of everyone and crush her under my heel once again.’

The situation was urgent. All available members converged on the West District.

Xu Qingsui and Meng Donghua followed the main group and soon arrived at the West District.

From a distance, they could see enormous, bizarrely shaped Mutants.

Vines as thick as an adult’s arm whipped through the air, knocking back the members who charged forward.

From the tips of the vines extended tendrils like those of an ordinary ivy, complete with suckers. They would take advantage of any lone member’s carelessness and latch directly onto them.

Once a member was caught, they would deflate like a punctured balloon, their entire body shrinking.

Weaving through the gaps between the vines were mosquitoes the size of small cars.

The mosquitoes’ proboscises had mutated, and they glinted with a cold, sinister light.

Their two eyes, the size of headlights, glowed green. Whenever a member was knocked aside, the mosquitoes would dive right on top of them.

The two types of creatures coordinated with each other, and many members fell, severely injured.

But the most eye-catching thing was the dark shadow behind them.

Its body was so massive that Xu Qingsui couldn’t even tell what it was from her current vantage point.

Looking up, a flash of reflected light stung Xu Qingsui’s eyes.

After a moment of adjustment, she shielded her eyes with her arm and looked again.

The first thing that came into view was a row of neat buck teeth, followed by a pair of large, red-glowing eyes.

Two large ears stuck out from the top of its head, flapping back and forth.

A long, vertically oval nose twitched up and down, and green mucus dripped intermittently from its nostrils.

Xu Qingsui happened to see an unlucky giant mosquito get hit by the mucus.

In the blink of an eye, the mucus corroded the mosquito until not even a bone was left.

Xu Qingsui frowned slightly. ’Is that a pig?’

At this moment, the West District had become a chaotic scene, with dozens of Heiyu Alliance members lying on the ground.

The members in charge of logistics were dodging Mutant attacks while treating and evacuating the wounded.

Seeing this, Meng Donghua once again blocked Xu Qingsui’s path.

He wasn’t Lu Jingyu. He didn’t even know if he could make it out of this in one piece, let alone protect Xu Qingsui.

"Guide, you can see for yourself! The West District is completely out of control now. It’s too dangerous. You should head back to the base!"

Xu Qingsui shook her head. She had already tasted the benefits of absorbing the spirit bodies of Mutants and naturally wanted to use this opportunity to enhance her Spiritual Power.

But she also knew this wasn’t an easy situation. "It’s fine," she said. "Don’t worry about me. Go do what you need to do. I’ll just observe from here. If there’s any danger, I’ll retreat immediately and protect myself."

She didn’t want anyone else to know about her ability to absorb spirit bodies.

This was a perfect chance to observe the situation from the sidelines and strike when an opportunity arose.

Knowing he couldn’t change Xu Qingsui’s mind, and realizing this was not the right time to stay and protect her, Meng Donghua had to compromise.

"Then you must protect yourself. Retreat immediately if there’s danger. You absolutely have to protect yourself."

In the time it took him to say that, several more team members fell.

Meng Donghua couldn’t wait for Xu Qingsui’s reply and immediately charged forward.

Watching more and more people rush in, Xu Qingsui concealed herself within the crowd and followed.

’I have to find a good spot to pick up some scraps.’

But from time to time, members would fall at her feet.

Even so, it didn’t stop the others. One after another, they fell and were replaced.

Xu Qingsui couldn’t help but sigh with emotion. This was the very reason the Alliance existed in the Apocalypse.

Even if many people didn’t see eye to eye, they could still band together like a tightly woven rope in the face of a great threat and fight a common enemy.

Deeply moved, when another member fell beside her, Xu Qingsui couldn’t resist lending a hand.

During this time, she also encountered several members who were on the verge of going berserk, and she helped guide them.

Unlike when she guided Lu Jingyu, dealing with these members was much simpler for Xu Qingsui.

A mere brush of her spiritual power was enough to soothe them.

Xu Qingsui was completely focused on helping the injured members, not noticing a figure slowly approaching her.

A pair of crimson eyes, filled with murderous intent.

A large hand slowly rose, aimed at Xu Qingsui’s head, and swung down hard.
