Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The Obstetrics Saint Comes Online
As she laid her palm on the female cat’s belly, the suspicion in Xu Qingsui’s eyes was instantly confirmed.
The male cat at its side let out an even more desperate roar and staggered back to its feet.
Lu Jingyu’s expression tensed, and he immediately moved to shield Xu Qingsui.
Xu Qingsui shifted her attention from the female cat to the male one.
All the onlookers saw was Xu Qingsui and the male cat exchange a single glance. The cat froze, its massive body crashing to the ground.
It lay on the ground as if it had given up all resistance, its eyes fixed on the female cat.
Seeing this, Xu Qingsui remained silent and turned to look at Lu Jingyu.
"Can I borrow your dagger?" She remembered Lu Jingyu using a dagger during the fight, so he probably had it on him.
Lu Jingyu didn’t understand why she needed it, but he handed the dagger over without a single question.
Watching her, the crowd grew even more confused. They stared at her, trying to guess what she was about to do.
With everyone’s attention fixed on Xu Qingsui, no one noticed Xu Ruming and Shen Ling’an.
Humiliated by Lu Jingyu’s public rejection, Xu Ruming was in no mood to help Shen Ling’an stabilize his condition.
Fortunately, Shen Ling’an was still unconscious, so he wasn’t in any immediate danger.
Unwilling to watch Xu Qingsui become the center of attention, she struggled to support Shen Ling’an and limped away.
Before she left, she shot a glance at Xu Qingsui and comforted herself. ’One day, just as I returned to the Xu Family, I will take everything that Xu Qingsui has now.’
With Shen Ling’an completely unconscious, it was a struggle for Xu Ruming just to hold him up.
She stumbled along, barely managing to make her way out of the crowd.
The moment they were out of the crowd’s sight, a figure blocked their path.
Xu Ruming’s expression tightened. Shen Ling’an was still unconscious; if someone meant them harm, she had no way to fight back.
The hand she used to support Shen Ling’an was ready to let go at a moment’s notice. In a crisis, she had to ensure her own safety first.
"No need to be so tense. If I wanted to hurt you, you wouldn’t have a chance to escape."
The stranger spoke first, his voice dripping with contempt.
Xu Ruming knew they weren’t bluffing, but she felt a sense of unease. Not knowing their intentions, she remained on high alert.
"I saw your fight against the Mutant. I’m very impressed by the two of you. I can offer you an opportunity. Do you want it?"
Xu Ruming was slightly taken aback. ’Was this person there just now? Why don’t I remember him at all?’
Seeing the stranger’s confident demeanor, she didn’t press the matter and asked tentatively, "What kind of opportunity?"
A cunning glint appeared in the stranger’s eyes. "The very opportunity you’re longing for."
"You know what I want?" Xu Ruming’s expression was cold, but she was already tempted.
"Of course. As long as you listen to me, I won’t just grant your wish; I’ll give you more than you could ever dare to imagine."
"The humiliation you suffered today will be paid back in spades. Everything you desire will be yours for the taking."
Xu Ruming’s eyes shifted thoughtfully, and she finally nodded.
"Bring him and follow me. I’ll get you settled in first. You help him stabilize his condition, and I’ll arrange everything else."
The stranger’s offer was too tempting. Xu Ruming followed him without a second thought.
Meanwhile, having taken the dagger, Xu Qingsui sliced open the female cat’s belly in full view of the crowd.
Everyone who saw this was filled with astonishment. Some even began to suspect she had some kind of twisted hobby.
Xu Qingsui reached into the female cat’s stomach. The male cat watched silently from the side, tears welling in its eyes, but it no longer struggled to lash out.
After a moment, Xu Qingsui seemed to find what she was looking for and carefully withdrew her hand.
When she pulled her hand out from the cat’s belly, she was holding something.
Just as the crowd was wondering what treasure she could have pulled from the cat’s belly, a faint cry was heard.
"Mew..."
Everyone present was dumbfounded. The female cat had been pregnant.
Xu Qingsui had performed a caesarean section, delivering the kitten.
Astonished, the onlookers recalled the male cat’s earlier reaction, and everything suddenly made sense.
No wonder the male cat had been so grief-stricken. It wasn’t just the pain of losing its mate, but also its unborn child!
As Xu Qingsui lifted the kitten out, the male cat finally closed its eyes.
Xu Qingsui wrapped the kitten in her jacket, then looked at Lu Jingyu. "Let’s go back."
Lu Jingyu gave the kitten a calm glance, said nothing more, and led Xu Qingsui away.
Back at the base, Lu Jingyu had someone bring a cage and some milk.
He watched as Xu Qingsui carefully fed milk to the kitten.
Seeing her gentle expression and meticulous care, Lu Jingyu felt something stir within him.
"Cap...tain..." A team member came looking for Lu Jingyu, but was cut off mid-word by a sharp glance from him.
Seeing that the noise had still startled Xu Qingsui into looking over, Lu Jingyu said softly, "I’m going to step out for a moment. If you need anything, just tell the guards outside. I’ll make sure everything is taken care of."
Xu Qingsui nodded and went back to feeding the kitten.
After Lu Jingyu left, she spared a glance for the Golden Octopus, which had been chattering incessantly for some time.
[Congratulations, Host, on acquiring a Tainted cub. A reminder, Host: the line between good and evil is but a single thought. This cub carries Mutant genes. If the Host raises it well and guides it toward good, it will become a great asset.]
[However, if the Host fails to look after it properly, it could also develop into a savage beast.]
Xu Qingsui looked at the fluffy little kitten in her arms and smiled.
’Looks like I’ll have another good helper from now on.’
Outside the room, the team member said to Lu Jingyu, "Captain, the Elder is in the council hall and has asked to see you."
"Alright, I’m on my way. You stay here and keep an ear out. If they need anything inside, get it ready and send it in."
After giving his instructions, Lu Jingyu departed.
The team member, not daring to be neglectful, stood guard outside the door.
Lu Jingyu arrived at the council hall alone. Before he even entered, he spotted a familiar figure.
His brow furrowed; he already had an idea of what was going on.
Before he could react, the people inside the hall had already seen him.
"Jing Yu, come in!"
Seeing that Elder Qi Qin of the Heiyu Alliance had spotted him, Lu Jingyu had no choice but to enter the hall.
Inside the hall, besides Qi Qin, there was another person: a woman.
When she saw Lu Jingyu enter, she stood meekly to the side, her gaze timid as she looked at him.
Lu Jingyu, however, pretended not to see her and walked directly up to Qi Qin.
"Elder Qi, what brings you here today? You haven’t concerned yourself with the Alliance’s affairs for a long time."
Lu Jingyu already had his suspicions, and while he spoke calmly, his tone betrayed his attitude.
