From the look of things, Shen Ling’an had the upper hand.

This showed that Shen Ling’an certainly had some ability.

He was likely one of the stronger B level Sentinels.

’The original owner’s taste wasn’t all that bad, it seems.’

After holding on for a moment longer, the male cat roared and surged with another burst of strength.

By now, deep footprints had been gouged into the concrete beneath Shen Ling’an’s feet.

As the male cat relentlessly pushed forward, his feet carved a distinct trench in the ground.

At this point, everyone held their breath, anticipating the final outcome.

Xu Ruming scrambled up from the ground, brushing the dirt from her clothes to hide her disheveled state.

She stared intently at Shen Ling’an, her mind filled with one thought: joining the Heiyu Alliance.

After being pushed back several meters, the dark green markings on Shen Ling’an’s body had spread all the way to the crown of his head.

Veins bulged at his temples, like earthworms crawling across his skin.

He braced himself once more, continuing to lock horns with the male cat.

Seeing Shen Ling’an hold on for so long, many people forgot his reputation as a scumbag, their eyes filling with admiration.

But just as everyone thought he might actually have the strength to win, Shen Ling’an’s body went rigid. Then, like a kite with a broken string, he was sent flying backward.

The male cat didn’t let up. It leaped in pursuit, ready to press its advantage and finish Shen Ling’an off for good.

Just as it looked like Shen Ling’an was done for, a figure flashed past and caught him.

Xu Qingsui glanced at the empty spot beside her and shook her head with a sigh.

’Garbage like him really isn’t worth saving.’

Lu Jingyu landed safely, one hand gripping Shen Ling’an’s collar.

The male cat’s pounce hit nothing but air. After landing, it roared incessantly at Lu Jingyu.

Shen Ling’an had completely lost his mind by now. Ignoring the fact that Lu Jingyu had just saved him, he grabbed Lu Jingyu’s arm and tried to rip it off.

In response to the attack, Lu Jingyu merely spared him a glance, casually catching Shen Ling’an’s swinging arm, twisting it back, and effortlessly dislocating his shoulder.

Shen Ling’an let out a low growl and raised his other arm. Lu Jingyu repeated the move, dislocating that shoulder as well.

With both arms hanging uselessly, Shen Ling’an still wouldn’t quit. He opened his mouth and tried to bite Lu Jingyu.

Lu Jingyu’s brow tightened. He spat out a single word, "Noisy."

As the word left his lips, Lu Jingyu raised a hand and slapped Shen Ling’an across the face, sending him flying once more.

He didn’t fly as far as when the male cat had hit him, but he was already unconscious before he landed.

Just then, the male cat charged again. As it bore down on him, Lu Jingyu raised a hand and made a grasping motion in the air. The male cat was also sent flying.

It rolled several times after landing, coming to a stop right beside the female cat.

The male cat struggled to rise, but it felt as if every bone in its body was broken. After several failed attempts, it collapsed beside the female cat.

Xu Qingsui raised an eyebrow. ’As expected,’ she thought, ’in the face of true power, nothing else matters.’

Shen Ling’an had fought a life-or-death battle to a standstill, but for Lu Jingyu, it was a simple matter of waving his hand.

Not far away, Xu Ruming stared, dumbstruck, at Lu Jingyu, her eyes brimming with possessiveness.

’Now this is the kind of man I like,’ she thought. ’A man this outstanding should belong to me. He shouldn’t have anything to do with Xu Qingsui.’

The male cat was no longer able to resist. The show was pretty much over.

Lu Jingyu paid Shen Ling’an no mind, walking over to Xu Qingsui. "It’s over. Let’s go back. You should be resting for a while longer."

"Captain Lu! What about us?" Xu Ruming blurted out, seeing that Lu Jingyu was about to leave with Xu Qingsui.

Shen Ling’an was still lying on the ground, but she hadn’t spared him a single glance.

Lu Jingyu shot her a sideways glance. "What does that have to do with me?"

Xu Ruming’s face flushed, but she pressed on. "We had an agreement. If we dealt with the Mutants, we could join the Heiyu Alliance. We took care of the female cat. As for the male... if you hadn’t stepped in, it’s not like we were completely without hope."

Xu Ruming kept saying "we," as if she had been part of the fight.

As a guide, her primary duty was to soothe the Sentinel.

Yet Shen Ling’an was still lying on the ground, completely ignored.

"Hah!" Lu Jingyu glanced at Shen Ling’an and let out a laugh of pure exasperation.

"The deal was that you could join the Heiyu Alliance if you defeated the Mutants. He got lucky and took care of one, but if I hadn’t intervened, he’d be dead right now."

"Strictly speaking, you failed to uphold your end of the bargain. Therefore, you are not welcome in the Heiyu Alliance."

Lu Jingyu’s tone was final, but some of the other Alliance members still had their reservations.

Shen Ling’an was no Lu Jingyu, to be sure, but he was still clearly capable.

If he joined the Heiyu Alliance, he would be a powerful new asset.

No one dared to question Lu Jingyu directly, so they could only mutter amongst themselves.

The quiet murmurs reached Lu Jingyu’s ears. He scanned the area and announced, "The Heiyu Alliance is a team. We value an individual’s character and integrity, not just their power."

"We have no need for members with poor character. Otherwise, you never know when they might push a teammate in front of them to take a bullet."

After that, the murmurs of dissent vanished completely.

Lu Jingyu then turned to Xu Qingsui. Noticing her appraising him with a hint of suspicion, he explained, "In Zone 9, members of the Heiyu Alliance are forbidden from standing by and watching a Mutant harm someone."

Xu Qingsui nodded, accepting his explanation.

"Hold on a second," Xu Qingsui said, walking toward the female cat.

Although the male cat couldn’t get up, it was still breathing and could lash out at any moment.

Lu Jingyu immediately fell in step behind her, ready to protect her in case the male cat lashed out.

Watching Lu Jingyu stick to Xu Qingsui’s side like a bodyguard,

Xu Ruming’s eyes grew red with envy, and she actually reached out to grab him.

Lu Jingyu recoiled as if dodging something filthy, snatching his arm away.

Afraid she would keep pestering him, he glanced at the unconscious Shen Ling’an. "Aren’t you bonded? Even if not, you came here together. Shouldn’t you be checking on him?"

"He may be unconscious, but that won’t stop him from going berserk. If you don’t soothe him soon, you’ll have to start hitting on someone else’s fiancé."

Lu Jingyu’s words tore away the last shred of Xu Ruming’s dignity.

The onlookers recalled the relationship between Xu Ruming and Shen Ling’an, and their faces filled with undisguised contempt.

Xu Qingsui paid them no mind and walked straight to the female cat.

The male cat watched her, letting out a series of roars. It tried several times to get up and attack, only to collapse pathetically back to the ground each time.

Ignoring the male, Xu Qingsui knelt in front of the female cat and reached a hand toward its belly.
