Chapter 26: Short Evaluation
Over the ruined buildings and overgrown plants, the sun rose overhead. The Predicaments that wandered the night were drawn out of their ravenous state. And the humans that were woken up by the sunlight already made due that yesterday wasn’t a dream.
While those who were near the port wondered what to do for the day, a group of four were steadily making their way over towards the sea.
And one of these four had a rather...
’She’s so creepy...’
Unnerved expression on her face.
Seraphine walked alongside Hilda at the back, clutching the gun the woman gave to her tightly.
Then, she glanced at the German a couple of times with a look of unease.
Last night, because of the bitter cold, she woke up to the sight of Hilda staring directly at her with her eyes open.
She almost had a heart attack because of the woman!
And if it wasn’t for the fact that she knew this was how Hilda slept, she would’ve thought that the woman was awake!
’But it still doesn’t make it any less scary...’ Seraphine thought, shivering at the thought of last night. ’Is this really how people who work in the military sleep?!’
She then averted her gaze when she made eye contact with Hilda, who immediately quirked an eyebrow at her unusual behaviour.
’She seems jumpy...’ Hilda pondered a little. ’Perhaps my little test last night still has her a bit frightened.’
The test she was referring to was the Predicament she had let escape last night.
In truth, she wasn’t certain keeping Callum and Seraphine around was worth it. Especially since she was already busy protecting Nadia.
But obviously, due to reasons, she couldn’t kill either of the two, nor could she leave either of them alone. Thus, she had devised a plan before heading out to hunt more Predicaments.
Since Predicament became stronger at night, she had planned to lure one back to camp to not only test both of them, but at the same time, Nadia’s strength.
Of course, she didn’t believe either of the three would beat it. So, she would’ve stepped in when they managed to satisfy her.
’But who would’ve guessed my plan to be derailed...’ Hilda huffed, thinking back to how she found Nadia.
She was so stunned when she stumbled upon the woman, so much so that she almost forgot to intervene to save her.
But luckily, it worked out in the end.
Not only did Hilda manage to satisfy her curiosity about Nadia’s strength, but she was also welcomed with the sight of a Scoundrel’s corpse! Killed by the two she had thought would not have much worth.
’Naturally, I’ll keep this to myself.’ Hilda chuckled inside.
There was absolutely no way she was going to talk about a plan that would’ve put the three in mortal danger. And especially not around Nadia, who...
Was acting much colder towards her compared to last night.
Hilda shot Nadia a glance.
The woman was walking at the front. Her long, golden blonde hair tied with a light blue bow fluttered in the wind as she walked. Along with the coldness in Nadia’s sky-blue eyes, her black turtleneck, and her dark blue jeans, she was an especially enchanting young lady.
Unfortunately, the part where she fell short in Hilda’s eyes, however, was the fact that she was missing a piece of outerwear...
This morning, before they had set off on their journey to the port, Nadia had handed back her coat without much of a word.
"Haa..."
’Much to be expected, with the way her body kept reacting yesterday.’
She then looked up and gazed at Callum, who was walking alongside Nadia.
Compared to last night, the injuries he had sustained against the Predicament had completely healed. The small cuts to the gnash on his shoulder.
Although these injuries were easy to heal from, it would take at least a full day or two for the average Vitalist to heal from them.
’It’s safe to say, he’s definitely above average~’ Hilda mused in her mind.
Apart from Seraphine, who had yet to display much, this temporary party of hers was looking rather promising~...
