Chapter 25: How Troubling...
Although it was drafty, they decided to make do with this room since everyone was too tired to move to a different room.
Well, besides Hilda, who was surprisingly still energetic.
"You must’ve received a lot of training from the LRM..." Nadia asked, eyeing Hilda, who decided to sit in a random corner.
’Is she planning to sleep there?’ The Heroine pondered.
Hilda let out a moan as she leaned into the corner.
After crossing her legs, she responded to Nadia’s words:
"Meh, enough for me to not die. Besides that und a few other things, I’m the one who pushed myself to this level."
She then threw Nadia a quick glance and found the woman positioning herself to be closer to where she was.
At this, Hilda smirked.
"Oh~? I thought you didn’t wanna sleep near me. What changed?"
"Hmph, nothing changed!" Nadia snorted, lying down a metre away from Hilda, "Since its clear that a Predicament could show up at any time. It would make sense for me to sleep near someone capable."
She then added with a huff:
"It’s also so I can stop you if you do something off. That’s it."
Hilda stared at Nadia teasingly, a playful smile stretching across her lips.
With a tilt of her head, she patted her right thigh.
"Then, why don’t you come closer? Come sleep here. I’m sure it’ll be much easier for you to keep an eye on me~" Hilda taunted.
Nadia instantly sat up, her taciturn facade cracking from Hilda’s provocation. She then fiercely shook her head.
"A-absolutely not! Why on Earth do you think I would ever sleep on your lap?!" Nadia spluttered before lying back down, "Just go to sleep and stop messing with me!"
Hilda watched as the Heroine turned on her side and faced away from her, pulling the collar up from her coat to shield her face.
She also managed to pick up on Nadia’s quiet grumbling:
"Absolute nonsense, so annoying..."
The German’s playful smile melted into a warm one.
She leaned back against the wall with a satisfied look on her face.
’How long has it been since I had so much fun...’ Hilda wondered.
After so long, this was the first time she felt so much enjoyment out of one day. So much so that she even began to look forward to the remaining days in this entrance exam.
She then sat up a little when she noticed Seraphine’s approach.
Hilda tilted her head.
"Did you need something, Miss Halloway?"
"Ah, ehm..." Seraphine scratched the back of her neck, "I was just wondering... if you still had that gun on you."
"Gun?" Hilda widened her eyes a little, then noticed Nadia’s body stiffening a little at the word ’gun’.
Ignoring Nadia’s reaction to her having a gun, Hilda turned back to Seraphine and pondered.
How did she know that she had a gun?
’... Ah... I do remember pulling it out in front of her.’ Hilda called, then smiled wryly.
"I do have it on me still. But may I ask what you need it for?"
"I’m planning on using it to kill Predicaments," Seraphine said with confidence, making use of her knowledge.
In the story, it was clearly stated that Hilda had a deep hatred towards Predicaments. Thus, whenever you wanted something from Hilda, it was always wise to say it was for killing a Predicament.
Although, in this case, it really was because of Predicaments.
’It’s also because I don’t want to get blood on my hands...’
Having just experienced what the blood of Predicaments felt like on her hands... she never wanted to experience it ever again.
Seraphine watched as Hilda beamed at her.
"Is that so? Very well, you may have my gun."
Hilda tucked her hand behind her and pulled out the pistol from her System Inventory, acting as if it were on her the entire time.
After having the gun switched to safety, she handed it over to the girl.
"I’ve already used one bullet, so there should be 16 in the magazine."
Seraphine grabbed the pistol from Hilda’s hand, then inspected it, feeling the weight of the firearm in her hand.
It felt surreal that she was holding an actual gun in her hands, probably even more than the fact that she was stuck inside her favourite Visual Novel.
’I still don’t know where she’s pulling the gun from...’ Seraphine thought, weirded out by Hilda’s undocumented ability.
Then, she sighed and decided not to think about it.
’Maybe Hilda always had this ability, and it was never revealed in the story.’ She concluded, figuring it’s the best answer she could get—although it didn’t make much logical sense to her.
She then looked down at the gun before quirking an eyebrow.
’Wait. She already used a bullet, when?’
She could’ve sworn that Hilda wasn’t into firearms; instead, being more into cold weapons, like blades.
’And considering she’s as dangerous as a gun already, why would she ever use a gun?’
Seraphine looked up and asked Hilda directly:
"I hope you don’t mind me asking... but what did you use the bullet on?" Seraphine asked curiously.
"Hm? What did I use the bullet on?" Hilda tilted her head, then smiled ominously.
"I rather not answer this question... so, do you still want the gun, or not?"
The girl immediately froze, then began chuckling nervously—slightly frightened by Hilda’s smile.
"Haha, I do, I do! Well, I’ll leave you to go rest now, good night!" Seraphine said, trying to stuff the gun in her pocket.
When Seraphine eventually left to go back to where Callum was, Hilda took a subtle glance towards Nadia, to find her body unusually still.
Just now, when she refused to answer Seraphine’s question, she noticed Nadia perk up again.
The Heroine had figured out what Hilda used to kill Ben.
"Haa..." Hilda sighed.
Although she knew that it would be found out sooner or later, Hilda would have wished for Nadia not to have figured it out so soon.
’How troubling...’ The German thought to herself, now wondering how the woman may act like tomorrow.
She then decided to go to sleep and rest her brain.
