Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Thrashing the Spoiled Princess
Yolanda Kramer glared at Luna Dawson, her eyes filled with displeasure.
"My mom hadn’t even turned! Why did you have to stab her?! She was already in so much pain, why did you have to hurt her more?!"
Beside her, Shay Kramer gently tugged her sister’s sleeve and shook her head.
Seeing the wariness on the other two’s faces, she explained softly between sobs, "My sister doesn’t mean any harm. Thank... thank... thank you for saving us."
Luna Dawson’s eyes were filled with a mixture of surprise and exasperation. She glanced at Yolanda Kramer, then at Evan Olson.
’Is this guy blind?’
’I wasn’t the one who stabbed her, so why is she yelling at me?’
’And acting like she’s the victim?’
Evan Olson felt his skin crawl under her gaze. He coughed twice to cover his awkwardness and said in a low voice, "Ahem, your mother was bitten by a zombie. It was only a matter of time before she turned. I had no choice. It was better to take care of it early, to keep you from getting caught in the crossfire."
"I don’t care! I don’t care!" The words seemed to set Yolanda Kramer off completely. Her voice instantly shot up as she shrieked stubbornly, "I just want my mom! What are we going to do without our mom? You killed her! You have to take responsibility! That’s right! You must take responsibility!"
Shay Kramer, in contrast, stood quietly by her sister’s side after offering her thanks, her face streaked with tears.
She appeared frail and helpless, but her eyes kept darting between Evan Olson and Luna Dawson, hiding a hint of barely perceptible scrutiny.
Annoyed by the noise, Luna retorted without ceremony, "Are you crazy? If you want to die, go die somewhere else. Don’t stand here wailing!"
’It’s so damn loud. It’s the apocalypse; I don’t have time to be a therapist for some clueless idiot.’
With that, she turned and started pulling Evan Olson toward home, not bothering in the slightest with Yolanda Kramer’s tantrums and curses behind them.
But the Kramer sisters had no intention of letting them go. After a moment of stunned silence, they both ran after them.
Shay Kramer hurriedly called out, "Sir, thank you so much for saving us just now. Could you please help us clear out the monsters in our house?"
Her voice wasn’t too loud or too soft, just enough to drift into their ears, perfectly calibrated to sound weak and helpless. "My name is Shay Kramer. We live in Building 97. We have a lot of supplies at our place; we definitely won’t let you help us for free!"
Luna Dawson stopped in her tracks, completely speechless.
’So I guess I helped for nothing?’
’All the thanks go to Evan Olson, but when it’s time to curse someone out, I’m the first one she thinks of, huh?’
She whipped around, hands on her hips, and glared at the two of them. "What is wrong with you two? Why do you only thank him and not me? Did I not help?"
"No... Ma’am... that’s not what I meant..."
Shay Kramer’s eyes instantly filled with tears. She timidly glanced at Luna before her gaze darted quickly to Evan Olson, looking as if she had suffered a terrible injustice.
She looked no older than twenty. Her small nose was red from the cold, and she bit her pink lip fearfully.
She was wearing a rose-pink dinosaur onesie, its large hood pulled over her head. Standing in the thin layer of snow, she looked all the more pitifully endearing.
But before Luna could say anything, Yolanda Kramer’s sharp curses erupted again. "You killed my mother, so you have to take responsibility! What right did you have to kill her?"
The shouting made Luna’s head buzz. ’I’ve really seen it all now—save someone only to get chased down and cursed out!’
’Considering how young they are, it’s understandable they can’t accept reality right away.’ With that thought, she picked up the pace with Evan Olson, no longer engaging with the two sisters.
Shay Kramer, wearing cotton slippers, quickened her pace to keep up.
The ground was wet and slippery with snow and shards of ice. She didn’t manage more than a couple of steps before she slipped and fell.
She bit her lip hard and cried out, "You’re so heartless!"
With her face covered in tears, she struggled back to her feet and grabbed Yolanda Kramer’s hand, her own hands trembling. "Sister! They...!"
Seeing her sister begging like this, only for that man and woman to ignore them, Yolanda Kramer angrily scooped up a handful of snow, packed it into a ball, and eyed Luna and Evan’s retreating backs.
After a moment’s thought, she hurled it squarely at Luna. "Bitch! I’m talking to you! You think you can run away?"
SPLAT! A clump of snow hit Luna on the back of the neck. The icy shards made contact with her skin, and she flinched from the cold shock.
’Bitch?!’
’Run away?!’
’Run away my ass?!’
Luna spun around violently, took a few quick strides, and grabbed Yolanda Kramer by the collar, forcibly hauling her forward.
"Bitch?" Luna’s eyes went cold. "Who was it just now, crying and screaming for help? I saved you, and what do you do? You turn right around and start cursing me out? You really think I’m a pushover, don’t you?!"
Before her voice had even faded, the crisp sound of a slap followed.
SLAP!
Yolanda Kramer stared blankly, clutching her face, her mind a complete void.
This woman actually dared to hit her!
She was the eldest daughter of the Kramer Family!
The Kramer Group was a publicly listed company! Everyone always coddled her and gave her whatever she wanted!
As she came to her senses, she shrieked hysterically, "You bitch! Do you know who I am? My dad is Jake Jensen! If you dare to hit me, my dad will never let you get away with it!"
Luna sneered, "Jake Jensen? More like Jake the Imbecile!" A few more loud slaps followed. "SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! What kind of idiot parents could produce a brainless thing like you?! SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! Are you missing a brain stem? Didn’t your mother ever teach you to be grateful?! SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!"
’It’s the end of the world, and she’s still trying to pull rank with her family background. I’m not going to indulge this stupid, arrogant brat!’
"Hm? Not talking anymore?" Luna shook her by the collar, then delivered a few more slaps. "SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! You were running your mouth so well just a second ago. Go on, keep cursing!"
Yolanda Kramer was dizzy and disoriented from the beating, her face full of terror, her cheeks swollen like a pig’s head.
Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. She couldn’t even form a complete sentence, her ears ringing with the sound of slaps and Luna’s rebukes.
Her mind cleared a little. "I... I was wrong..."
Her voice was choked with sobs, her face hurting like hell. The sound was as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.
SLAP! SLAP! Another pair of slaps. Luna said coldly, "Wrong about what?!"
"Sob... I won’t curse at people anymore..."
"Do you know how to say thank you?" ’I have to hear a thank you. If you do a good deed, you should get credit for it!’ "Hurry up and thank me! My name is Luna Dawson, your grandma!"
Forced into a corner, Yolanda Kramer mumbled indistinctly, "...Grand... Grandma... Thank you for saving me... Thank you, Grandma Luna..."
Nearby, Shay Kramer was frozen stiff, numb with shock.
She never imagined Luna would actually hit someone!
And she had never seen her sister in such a pathetic state!
She dropped the act. Her eyes instantly turned sharp as she yelled at Luna, "What are you doing?! Let go of my sister!" With that, she charged at Luna.
Evan Olson, with his quick reflexes, grabbed the back of her collar and lifted her up like a chick.
Shay struggled, screeching in disbelief, "You’re nothing but bullies! Killing people and hitting people whenever you want! My sister is just blunt! So what if she cursed at you once? Did you really have to be so heavy-handed?!"
As she yelled, she flailed her arms, smacking Evan Olson’s arm. To him, her blows felt like little more than a tickle.
Evan had never dealt with this kind of drama from young women before and was at a loss for what to do.
He let her flail, neither fighting back nor retorting.
He just held her steady and turned to look at Luna with a dumbfounded expression.
Luna had just beaten Yolanda into submission when she heard this. She immediately turned her head and casually tossed Yolanda to the ground.
’They really are family. Here comes another clueless one!’
’Today, I’ll teach them a lesson on behalf of their parents.’
’Let them find out what happens when you provoke the person who saved your life!’
Seeing this, Evan Olson took the cue and pushed Shay Kramer in front of Luna.
SLAP!
Luna raised her hand and delivered a slap that sent Shay Kramer flying into the snow.
