Chapter 1: D-Day
Chapter 1: D-Day
"Okay, no need to feel nervous. You’re a freaking reincarnator. Every reincarnator gets a cheat."
Kaiser looked at himself in the mirror, wearing his academy uniform. Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm his racing heart.
It had been sixteen years since he was reincarnated into this world as a baby.
This world was called Solaris, a beautiful planet at least ten times larger than Earth.
Unlike his previous world, however, Solaris was a magical civilization where magic and science walked hand in hand.
But it hadn’t always been this way.
A thousand years ago, every human between the ages of sixteen and forty mysteriously vanished from the face of the planet. When they returned a day later, each of them possessed extraordinary powers—magic, supernatural abilities, and talents that had once existed only in fiction.
Along with their return came the appearance of Cosmic.
It turned out those humans had been chosen to undergo a series of trials. After clearing them, Solaris was connected to a mysterious platform known as Cosmic, a game-like world created by an unknown Absolute Being for reasons no one understood.
Inside Cosmic, newly awakened humans explored endless forests, conquered dungeons, fought monsters, raided ancient ruins, built farms and territories, crafted equipment, and competed against one another to become stronger.
Although it resembled a game, the danger was very real.
Death inside Cosmic meant true death in reality.
Even so, every awakened human entered it year after year, because no one wanted to remain ordinary.
And Kaiser Storm was no exception.
Today was his Awakening Day.
Like every sixteen-year-old in the kingdom, he would receive a random Beast Egg provided by the government and form a Soul Bond with the newborn beast inside.
Only after successfully forming that bond could a human awaken.
The beasts hidden within the free eggs possessed potential anywhere between Rank 1 and Rank 3.
"I just hope I awaken a powerful Talent," Kaiser muttered.
The kingdom’s generosity only extended to low-potential beasts.
Beast potential was divided into four grades.
Low Potential: Rank 1–3.
Mid Potential: Rank 4–6.
High Potential: Rank 7–9.
Perfect Potential: Rank 10.
Of course, wealthy families could purchase eggs with much higher potential.
Kaiser’s family should have been able to afford a Rank 6 Beast Egg.
But everything changed last year.
During a dungeon expedition, his father’s team encountered a sudden dungeon evolution. The entire squad was wiped out, and although his father survived, the death of his bonded beast left him permanently paralyzed.
He had remained in a coma ever since.
Almost everything the family earned now went toward keeping him alive in the hospital.
His mother, an awakened healer, worked tirelessly there every day. Without her modest salary, they wouldn’t have been able to afford his treatment for this long.
"I need to awaken a powerful Talent..."
Kaiser clenched his fists.
"Otherwise... I won’t be able to change anything."
Closing his eyes, he silently offered one final prayer.
Please...
Oh great God of Isekai...
Truck-kun...
Bless me with a cheat.
Kaiser opened his eyes and let out a small sigh.
"Well, praying won’t hurt."
He picked up his school bag from the desk and walked out of his room.
The smell of breakfast drifted through the small house.
His mother was already in the kitchen, placing a few slices of toasted bread and fried eggs onto the table.
"Good morning," she said with a tired smile.
"Morning, Mom."
"Eat first. We have to leave in thirty minutes."
Kaiser nodded and sat down.
The two ate quietly for a while.
His mother looked at him before speaking.
"Are you nervous?"
"A little."
"That’s normal."
She smiled gently.
"Don’t think too much about the beast’s potential. There have been people who awakened powerful Talents with Rank 1 beasts, and there have also been people who bonded with Rank 7 beasts but never achieved much."
"I know."
"What matters is your own effort after today."
Kaiser nodded.
"I’ll do my best."
After finishing breakfast, he carried the empty plates to the sink while his mother grabbed her coat.
Before leaving, Kaiser walked to another room.
A middle-aged man lay peacefully on a hospital bed that occupied nearly half the room. Tubes connected him to several medical devices quietly humming beside him.
His father looked as if he were simply sleeping.
Kaiser stood there for a few seconds.
"I’ll awaken today, Dad."
"When you wake up, I’ll make sure things are better."
He didn’t expect an answer.
After saying those words, he quietly left the room.
Outside, the streets were much livelier than usual.
Groups of teenagers wearing academy uniforms walked together with their parents toward the Awakening Hall.
Some looked excited.
Some looked nervous.
Others were already discussing what kind of Talent they hoped to awaken.
"I want an Elemental Talent."
"I’d rather get a Beast Tamer Talent."
"My cousin awakened a Smith Talent last year. He already earns more than most dungeon divers."
Divers.
A simple term used for people who made a living exploring dangerous places and fighting monsters.
They were divided into two categories.
The first were Reality Divers.
These were people who preferred clearing dungeons that appeared in the real world of Solaris. They considered Cosmic too dangerous and chose the safer path, even if the rewards were lower.
The second were Cosmic Divers.
Instead of staying in Solaris, they spent most of their time exploring the nearly infinite world of Cosmic. They ventured into unexplored regions, challenged powerful monsters, raided ancient ruins, searched for rare resources, and completed dangerous quests in exchange for far greater rewards.
Kaiser listened to their conversations as he and his mother continued walking.
Solaris was a world where Talent determined the direction of a person’s future.
A powerful Talent could change an entire family’s fate.
A weak Talent usually meant living an ordinary life.
About forty minutes later, they arrived at a massive white building standing in the center of the city.
The words Silverleaf City Awakening Hall were carved above its entrance.
Thousands of students had already gathered outside.
Officials guided everyone into different lines according to their schools.
"Students this way."
"Parents may wait in the observation area."
Kaiser looked at his mother.
"I’ll go now."
She smiled and adjusted his collar.
"Whatever happens today, remember that we’re already proud of you."
He nodded.
"I’ll see you after the ceremony."
Then he joined the line with the other students from his academy as they slowly entered the Awakening Hall.
