Chapter 34: 34: Three First Seal Enemies!
The two walked in silence as Frederic led the way through the city.
Much to Roderic’s surprise, they weren’t headed for the poorer parts of the village, though.
In fact, it was the polar opposite!
The buildings around them gradually became larger, most of which were stores or had stalls in front of them. Even the dirt roads began changing into clean and smooth stone streets.
After several minutes, Frederic finally came to a halt.
He glanced at Roderic uneasily before nodding his head.
’’They always sell around here,’’ he slowly said.
Roderic glanced at Frederic before slowly nodding.
’’Alright,’’ he said calmly. ’’Thank you.’’
Without another word, he took a step forward.
His eyes rapidly scanned the bustling streets while his mind churned.
’These people must not have any fear,’ he thought. ’Ordinary people might not know what these drugs really are, but knights certainly would.’
Just then, his eyes settled on a narrow alleyway between two stone buildings.
A middle-aged man stood there casually chatting with several villagers.
Every now and then, he’d reach into the leather satchel hanging from his shoulder before handing over a small cloth pouch.
The transaction had been so casual and natural that Roderic had almost skipped over it.
’Now I just have to confirm it,’ he thought.
But before that thought had even settled, one of the customers opened the pouch before taking a careful sniff.
Almost instantly, a satisfied smile spread across his face.
’’Never mind,’’ Roderic muttered, cracking his fists. ’’No need to confirm anymore.’’
’’I’ve found the right one.’’
Without another moment of hesitation, he walked straight through the crowd toward the man.
The dealer had just accepted another handful of coins when a hand suddenly clamped firmly around his arm.
’’Huh?’’
The man looked up in confusion.
’’W-What are you doing?’’
Roderic didn’t answer.
Instead, he only tightened his grip around the man’s arm.
’’Aaagh!’’ the dealer cried out in pain as the pouch slipped from his fingers.
Roderic caught it before it could hit the ground, calmly tightening the string around it to prevent any spills.
Finally, he locked eyes with the dealer.
’’Where did you get this?’’ he asked coldly.
The dealer frowned, his jaw still clenched from pain.
’’Mind your own busin—’’
CRACK!
Roderic squeezed even harder, fracturing the man’s arm.
The man’s knees instantly buckled beneath him.
’’AAAAHHH!!!’’ he screamed, attracting everyone’s attention.
Roderic didn’t pay any attention to the stares from others, though.
’’I asked you a question,’’ he said coldly. ’’Answer, or I’ll break your arm.’’
Cold sweat instantly covered the dealer’s face.
’’Alright! Alright!’’ he shouted panickedly. ’’I’ll tell you!’’
Roderic loosened his grip ever so slightly.
The dealer gasped for air before hurriedly pointing farther down the street.
’’I-I’ll take you there! Just let go!’’
Roderic narrowed his eyes before silently releasing him.
The man instantly reached for his arm, rubbing it softly before quickly beginning to walk.
Roderic followed closely without a word, while Frederic snapped out of his daze and hurriedly ran after them.
Only two minutes later, the dealer finally came to a stop.
Beside him stood a luxurious three-story tavern with laughter constantly echoing out from inside.
Roderic couldn’t help but narrow his eyes.
’’Here?’’ he asked coldly.
The dealer nodded repeatedly.
’’I-I told you! This is the place!’’ he frantically replied.
Roderic silently studied the building for several seconds before looking back at the trembling man.
’’Listen carefully,’’ he said.
The dealer immediately stiffened, nodding slowly as he stared at Roderic with wide eyes.
’’If I ever see you selling this poison again...’’ he continued, one hand on the hilt of his blade. ’’Your head will leave your shoulders.’’
All color drained from the man’s face.
’’Y-Yes, sir!’’ he whispered.
After Roderic nodded, the man turned around and sprinted away as fast as his legs could carry him.
After watching him disappear, Frederic couldn’t help but glance at Roderic in surprise.
’’Young Master?’’ he spoke up. ’’If I may ask, why did you let him go?’’
Roderic glanced back, his expression still cold and completely serious.
’’Someone has to spread the word that the drugs are poison,’’ he said without hesitation. ’’And with a clear punishment attached, people will think twice in case something like this happens again.’’
Frederic’s eyes widened slightly.
He quickly nodded before taking a step back.
Hearing no further questions, Roderic turned to the door once more, aura lighting up around one foot.
Without hesitation, he kicked as hard as he could toward the wooden door.
BANG!
A loud noise echoed out as the door shattered while flying inside.
The chatter and laughter inside instantly died down.
Just over two dozen heads snapped toward the entrance, their eyes strangely empty while smoke drifted through the air.
They struggled to even point their fingers as they slurred their words to others.
Roderic’s expression only turned more disgusted.
’’No need to doubt if I’m in the right place,’’ he muttered as he walked inside.
The entire tavern reeked of alcohol mixed with a strange smell that clearly belonged to the drug.
It didn’t bother Roderic one bit, though.
After wiping out the place, he’d gain minor poison resistance, which would wipe out any effects the drug could have.
Just then, several doors on the second floor flew open.
Rough-looking, muscular men burst out from different rooms before rushing toward the railing.
The moment they noticed Roderic’s attire, blades, and the aura radiating from his body, their expressions changed drastically.
’’A knight!’’
’’Don’t let him escape!!!’’
’’Kill him!’’
Five men rushed down the staircase, while two outright jumped from the second floor.
Among them, Roderic noticed three light up in a thin blue aura.
’Three First Seals,’ he thought, taking out both blades. ’This might be a bit dangerous.’
