Chapter 30: 30: Future Royal Knight Captain
Roderic let out a soft sigh.
’’I suppose it makes sense,’’ he muttered.
Three-seal knights weren’t common.
For a single barony to produce eight people on and above that level was already an incredible achievement.
’’Now let’s see who these people are,’’ he said, tapping on the screen once.
Several rows of text immediately popped up.
[Arthur Whitemane — Three-seal Knight — Former Occupation: Baron]
[Damon Harris — Three-seal Knight — Former Occupation: Knight Captain]
[Edric Whitemane — Three-seal Knight — Former Occupation: Baron]
[Dennis Whitemane — Sword Saint — Occupation: None/Rogue]
[Frederic Hales — Five-seal Knight — Occupation: Royal Knight Captain]
...
Roderic’s eyes narrowed slightly.
’And it just got even worse,’ he thought, running a hand through his hair. ’Half of the people here are from my family...’
His thoughts fell silent as he glanced back at the fifth name for a moment.
’’Hold on... what?’’ he muttered. ’’A five-seal knight...?’’
That wasn’t even the most surprising fact.
’’He became the Royal Knight Captain?’’ he said in disbelief. ’’That position is only just below the Sword Saints!’’
He almost couldn’t believe it.
For such a person to originate from a simple barony with no proper way of getting trained...
’How insanely talented is that guy?’
That question only lasted for a few seconds in his mind.
A large grin slowly spread across his face as he rubbed his hands together.
’’I have to make him mine...’’
Roderic paused for a moment.
’’No, that sounds weird,’’ he muttered, shaking his head. ’’I have to get him on my side...? Ah, whatever.’’
However he said it didn’t matter.
There was no doubt in Roderic’s mind about recruiting this person to his elite force.
Without another moment of hesitation, Roderic tapped Frederic’s name.
The blue window instantly expanded, revealing tons more information, including a picture of the man.

————————
Roderic stared at the screen for a moment.
His smile gradually faded as he read through the final sentences, instantly reminding him why he needed to do this in the first place.
’’Alright,’’ he muttered seriously. ’’I’ll have to head to Riverwood Village in the morning.’’
Without another thought, he swiped the screen away.
As the eight names from before popped up, Roderic immediately scrolled down.
[John Vale — Four-seal Knight — Former Occupation: Duke’s Knight Commander]
[Richard — Three-seal Knight — Occupation: Mercenary]
[Peter — Three-seal Knight — Occupation: Mercenary]
Roderic spent the next few minutes looking into each person, memorizing as much as he could.
Finally, he completely swiped away the screen.
Roderic let out a deep sigh and leaned back in his chair.
’’So much traveling to do,’’ he muttered.
For a moment, he stared up at the ceiling as countless thoughts ran through his mind.
The people inside the barony were just the start. There’d be countless more talented individuals outside whom he could recruit during his travels.
As for the recruiting itself? Roderic wasn’t particularly worried either.
’Unlike on Earth, honor is still a thing many want,’ he thought. ’Not to mention, becoming a knight under a noble is the most prestigious job one can get.’
A faint smile spread across his face.
With the sun having long set outside, there was no point in planning any further.
Tomorrow, he’d go to Riverwood Village to recruit Frederic.
Everything else could be looked at after that.
...
The next morning, Roderic was woken up early by several soft knocks on his door.
’’Young Master,’’ Edmund’s voice rang out. ’’The carriage is ready to set off.’’
Roderic groaned once before pushing himself out of bed.
’’I’m coming,’’ he said, raising his hand. ’’Give me a minute or two.’’
It didn’t take long before he had changed into a fresh set of clothes.
After fastening his belt, he tied both his hooked blades and a small pouch filled with money to it.
Finally, he pushed open his door.
Edmund immediately bowed respectfully.
’’Good morning, Young Master,’’ he greeted with a smile.
’’Morning,’’ Roderic replied. ’’Are you ready to set off?’’
Edmund nodded right away.
Just like that, the two began making their way through the estate.
Servants respectfully stepped aside as Roderic passed, lowering their heads one after another.
Roderic couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
Compared to just three weeks ago, the atmosphere had changed completely.
’Status achieved,’ he thought. ’I’ve come a long way with money too, and my personal force will have a nice start today.’
Before long, they stepped through the estate’s doors.
Waiting outside was a modest horse-drawn carriage with two guards standing beside it.
The moment they noticed Roderic, both men bowed.
’’Young Master.’’
Roderic returned the greeting with a nod before climbing into the carriage.
Edmund followed closely behind him, smiling the entire time.
As the small wooden door slammed shut behind them, the horses gradually started pulling the carriage.
Roderic casually glanced out the small window on his right, watching the scenery drift by.
’There’s not been a single day where I regretted being here,’ he thought, smiling.
Just as he was about to pull his gaze away, a familiar figure caught his attention.
Several dozen meters away, just behind the manor gates, stood a ragged man.
His clothes were still little more than torn rags, and his face looked even more exhausted than before.
Two estate guards stood in front of him, repeatedly trying to chase him away.
Yet the man simply shook his head every single time.
’Where have I seen that guy before?’ he thought, raising an eyebrow.
After a moment, Roderic simply shrugged.
’Whatever,’ he thought. ’The guards will deal with it.’
His thoughts quickly shifted back to Frederic.
If everything went according to plan, they’d arrive at the village in just an hour.
Then he’d finally be able to recruit the future Royal Knight Captain.
