Chapter 7: Why Are You Still A Virgin?

Chapter 7: Why Are You Still A Virgin?

#For four years, I have been the only one sitting at the dining table eating breakfast. Angel never once came to the table, and I have never even seen her eat breakfast.

I usually kept my eyes glued to my phone, chewing my toast in a hurry just to escape the heavy, ghostly silence of the room.

Our moms were hardly home, always on business trips together. When they came home for one or two days, we ate out as a family business thing. Angel never once showed up.

And this morning, while I was eating my breakfast, guess who walked in?

Only wearing a loose robe.

The silk fabric was tied loosely around her waist, hanging open just enough to show the sharp lines of her collarbone and the dark, twisting ink of the tattoos on her chest. She walked with a lazy, slow stride, completely unbothered by the cold draft sweeping through the hallway.

On her shoulder was Terror.

The orange cat was perched tightly against her neck like a fluffy scarf, her green eyes scanning the kitchen counters before locking right onto my breakfast plate.

She opened the fridge, brought out a carton of milk, tore the edge open, and fed Terror straight from the carton.

Angel didn’t even bother looking for a bowl or a glass, tilting the cardboard container back with one hand while the cat leaned down, licking the white liquid directly from the cardboard opening.

Both Terror and Angel were busy drinking the milk.

Then she stopped when she realized I was staring at them.

Her hand froze on the carton, her crimson eyes shifting smoothly across the kitchen island until they were locked tightly onto my face.

"What?"

The word came out in that flat, annoying husky voice of hers, her eyebrows pulling together into a sharp line that told me to mind my own business.

I blinked my eyes, picked up a piece of bacon, and chewed on it.

It’s none of my business.

I repeated the words like a mantra in my head, gripping my bacon tightly to keep my hands from shaking in front of her.

Terror must have been so hungry for her to come downstairs and feed her.

The cat let out a small, satisfied purr, wiping its whiskers against Angel’s shoulder as the carton was finally set down on the counter with a soft thud.

Then Angel sat down opposite me and served herself some food.

"Again, what?"

She caught me looking a second time, her red eyes narrowing as she picked up a piece of toast and bit into it with a slow, deliberate crunch.

"Why are you here?" I asked.

I kept my voice as cold and level as possible, adjusting my glasses with a sharp flick of my finger to hide my growing irritation.

"This is my mother’s house. Am I not allowed to have breakfast?"

She leaned back in the chair, the loose robe slipping slightly further down her arm, exposing the thick muscle of her shoulder and the lines of her ink.

"You never have breakfast here. The only one time I’ve seen you eat is on your room balcony."

"So, you do peep into my room, huh? Looks like you’ve been wanting to touch that dick of mine for a long time."

A lazy, wicked smirk spread across her lips, her eyes lighting up with a sudden amusement that made me want to throw my orange juice straight into her face.

Alright, I’m done with breakfast.

I was already through anyway.

Just when I thought this was a normal family improvement, she had to go and ruin it with her annoying words.

"Where are you going? You haven’t finished your plate."

"Why do you care? I am running late, and you are making me uncomfortable."

"Making you uncomfortable? Does that mean you’re changing your mind about wanting my dick?"

She didn’t move from her seat, but the intensity of her gaze pinned me to the ground, her tone dripping with absolute confidence.

I looked at her with a deadpan expression.

She really was trying to make me sleep with her.

The ridiculous threat from the poolside wasn’t just some crazy joke to scare me, she was actually moving forward with her weird plan.

No wonder she wore a loose robe exposing her body.

The strategic opening of the silk fabric felt like a deliberate trap, a visual reminder of the raw power she held over me in this empty house.

"Do you know what you look like right now? An exhibition, but a failed one."

I forced a harsh, mocking laugh out of my chest, hoping to pierce through that massive bubble of arrogance she carried around.

"The fuck does that mean? This is how I do my mornings... Oh, no, no, no. Do not think that I am trying to seduce you with my gorgeous body. I’m not going to waste my time trying to seduce you because you’re more of a demisexual than a normal girl."

"I’m not a... what does that even mean?"

My brain completely stalled on the strange vocabulary word, my defenses dropping for a fraction of a second as I tried to process what she was saying.

"You are a librarian, and you don’t know that? You’re the kind of person who wants a deep connection before sex, which means I have to play my part and form a deep connection with you in order to have sex with you."

She leaned forward over her plate, her voice dropping into a low, intimate purr that seemed to vibrate straight across the table.

"I can have sex with whoever I want, and I don’t need to have a connection with anyone."

I raised my voice, my cheeks burning with a heavy, furious flush as I defended my pride against her ridiculous psychological games.

"Really? Then why are you still a virgin?"

The question was dropped like a bomb into the quiet dining room, the smirk on her face widening into something truly vicious.

I paused right there.

How did she know that I was a virgin?

My mind raced through every single conversation, every journal entry, trying to figure out how she had managed to uncover my deepest, most embarrassing secret.

"I’m not a virgin. I have had lots of sex."

The lie came out high and fast, my voice cracking slightly at the end as I tried to regain some kind of ground in front of her.

"How many?"

She tilted her head, her crimson eyes tracking the rapid movement of my chest, completely seeing right through my frantic defense.

"Countless. Even last night I had one. You even saw how my makeup was ruined. I had sex."

I gripped the back of my dining chair until my fingers ached, throwing Benny’s memory into the conversation like a shield to protect myself.

"You did not have sex. That face of yours was someone who cried their face out and got swallowed up. I know a cry after sex, and that was not a cry after sex... Did you even kiss?"

Alright, I had had enough.

I grabbed my backpack, adjusted my glasses, and stormed out because having a conversation with Angel meant a lifelong headache and frustration.

So I was busy doing my work.

I was by the counter when Katie approached me.

She slid into the space beside me, leaning her elbows on the polished wood with a wide, gossiping grin plastered across her face.

"So, how did it go?"

She nudged my shoulder with her elbow, her eyebrows bouncing up and down in a silent demand for all the juicy details.

"How did what go?"

I kept my eyes fixed on the barcode scanner, refusing to meet her gaze as I jammed another book into the return cart.

"Your date with the hot patron."

And she had to go and remind me.

I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from groaning out loud, the frustration from the morning boiling over into a tight knot in my throat.

I hadn’t thought about Benny and the nun kissing since last night.

In fact, it had disappeared from my mind and been clouded by all that Angel nonsense.

"Em... it was good," I said, not wanting to reveal that it wasn’t a date but a children reading session.

"Did you two kiss or hold hands just like you imagined?"

Katie clapped her hands together, leaning closer until her nose was almost touching mine, completely desperate for romance.

"Well... at least somebody got kissed."

But it wasn’t me.

While Katie was busy celebrating my first, not actually my.. kiss, someone walked into the library.

Looking armless, exposing every single tattoo she had on her arms.

"Whoaaa, a sexy bad girl just walked in..."

Katie whispered the words under her breath, her jaw dropping open as she stared past my shoulder toward the entrance.

What in the world was Angel Morningstar doing here in the library?
