Chapter 54: Welcome To The District
Chapter 54: Welcome To The District
Third Person
Inside the hut, everyone looked at the young man pointing a finger toward Angel.
"Big brother, that is the girl who slammed my head the other night... she is the bastard. You need to teach her a lesson..."
The screech of pool cues hitting the floor cut through the sea breeze as the atmosphere inside the small shed turned ice-cold.
When Angel looked at the man behind the finger, it was the same man from that night, the Alpha who had tried to take advantage of April.
"Bastard?" Angel muttered. She was surprised he had called her that word, in a place like this.
A dark, dangerous flicker flashed deep inside her crimson eyes, though her face remained completely smooth.
Beside her, April instinctively took a half-step back, as she gripped the hem of her crop top.
When the man turned, behind him was a seasoned man wearing beach attire, sitting like a king while holding a cigar. Thick gray smoke curled around his head as he slowly lowered the cigar from his lips, his eyes narrowing through the cloud.
"David, are you sure she is the person who hit you?" the man asked his brother again. He wanted to be sure. His voice was heavy, carrying a deep rasp that instantly silenced the snooker players around them.
"Yes, brother... she is the one. I can never forget her face..." David insisted, his chest heaving as he spat on the wooden floor, his face twisting in a sneer.
The man stood up. With the help of his walking stick, he walked toward Angel, who did not look bothered by his approach.
Angel just stood there, hands in her pockets, as her eyes locked onto the man who dared to call her names. She didn’t shift her posture, nor did her jaw tighten. She simply watched him.
"Angel, is it true you laid your hands on my little brother?" he said, standing in front of Angel.
Angel looked at him. Her eyes swept over his polished cane, his floral shirt, and the nervous sweat glistening along his temples.
"He already told you. Why are you asking me?" she said, her tone as dry as bone.
"Brother, tell your men to beat the shit out of her and the Omega, then kick them out of the district... they don’t deserve to be here," David said as he moved closer to his brother. He gestured wildly toward April, his eyes gleaming with greedy spite
Everyone around them was quiet. Some had fear in their eyes, while others just wanted to see what would happen next.
"Hey, you, do you know who you are talking to?" Abigail said. She was about to stand in front of David, her manicured hands balling into fists, but her husband, Javier, stopped her. He caught her wrist firmly, pulling her back against his side with a quiet warning shake of his head.
"Why did she hit you, David?" his brother demanded. He didn’t turn around, keeping his gaze glued straight to Angel’s unbothered expression.
"I was just helping that shameful Omega, and then she came out of nowhere and attacked me..." David stammered out, pointing another shaky finger at April’s pale face.
His brother faced him.
"David, tell me the truth. Why did she hit you? Angel will never hit anyone unless she is provoked."
Hearing his brother say that, David swallowed hard, looking around as he noticed all eyes on him. Even the music had gone quiet. The party on the beach had come to a halt, the heavy bass fading into nothingness as the crowd outside turned toward the hut.
"I swear to you, brother, she attacked me for no reason... You said you would teach them a lesson. She is the one who needs that..."
Before David could finish talking, his brother slammed him with his walking stick.
The thick wooden cane cracked hard against David’s shoulder. He shrieked, collapsing instantly onto the floor.
He kept beating him with it.
"What are you doing, brother? You are supposed to be hitting those whores..." David screamed, rolling desperately across the floor to shield his face with his hands.
"Do you even know who you are insulting? How dare you call the Morningstars names? Even if she wasn’t provoked, the way you talk, you should have been jailed and given the beating of a lifetime..." Anthony roared, raising the stick high over his head and bringing it down straight onto David’s ribs.
David kept receiving nonstop blows from his brother. He couldn’t believe what his brother had just said.
The Morningstars...
He knew that name. He even worshipped that name. His big brother respected that name. That name was what put food on their table. Everything his brother had was because of that name.
The district he was standing in belonged to the Morningstars, the richest family in the state.
The girl he had called a bastard was the heir to the Morningstars.
A cold, terrifying sweat broke out across David’s skin. The pain in his bruised ribs instantly vanished, replaced by an overwhelming, suffocating horror.
David knelt right in front of Angel. He looked black and blue from his brother’s beating. His lip was split open, bleeding down his chin, and his shirt was torn open at the collar.
"I’m so sorry, Young Master. I didn’t know you were the master’s daughter... I had no idea..." he pleaded. He slammed his forehead directly onto the dusty floor, his whole body shaking frantically.
Angel, whose hands were still in her pockets, folded her arms and stepped away from the man. She looked down at his trembling form like he was a patch of dirt on her shoe.
"Am I the one you should be apologizing to?" Angel said.
David quickly crawled over to April, who remembered him from that night. He was the one who had tried to take advantage of her during her heat.
April gasped, pulling her feet back as the desperate Alpha scrambled across the wooden planks toward her.
David grabbed April’s leg. His hands clutched frantically at her ankle, his eyes bloodshot and wide with panic.
"Please forgive me, ma’am. I was not in my right mind that night... I never meant to do such a thing..." he sobbed, pressing his cheek against her sandal.
Angel used her leg to kick him away from April. The way he was holding her made April uncomfortable...
"Anthony, make sure your brother doesn’t enter my district, and neither does the rest of his family," Angel said to David’s brother, her voice smooth, icy, and completely final.
Anthony paused, his cane resting on the floor as his posture went stiff.
"But I am his family..."
"Okay then. Since you are useful to the district, get the useless one out." Angel didn’t even turn to look at him as she spoke.
Anthony nodded immediately, turning to his men with a sharp wave of his hand.
"Get him out of here!"
Anthony ordered his men to drag David out of the beach and out of the district.
Angel turned back toward the quiet crowd gathered around the hut. She raised her hands slightly, her dimples showing as she called out to the beach.
"Why stop the music? It’s Abigail and Javier Sanchez’s wedding... the party never ends..."
The DJ smashed his hand onto the turntables, and the heavy bass exploded back to life through the giant speakers. The crowd cheered, the beachgoers immediately jumping back into the night water, raising their drinks, and resuming the dancing.
Angel turned to April and smiled. Her crimson eyes softened just a fraction as she looked down at the short girl still clutching her shirt.
"Welcome to the district, April..."
