Chapter 6: MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL

"You don’t get to decide whether you want to be here or not, but don’t even think about running away from this pack. You are not going to go anywhere." Silas gritted his teeth, and then he stood up, while Seara curled herself on the cold ground.

Her shoulders were shaking, and she was crying, but there was no sound that came out of her mouth.

Silas stared at her for a while; his gaze held no warmth. He stayed for a while before he decided to leave and then walked toward the door and slammed it shut behind him.

On the other hand, Seara was too exhausted. She welcomed the darkness when it consumed her, putting the pain and her grievances at rest until she could pick them up again later.

She didn’t know what would happen to her.

However, Seara didn’t get to rest for long because she was woken up when a bucket of cold water was poured over her body. She yelped and gasped loudly as the feeling of drowning consumed her.

"What?" She looked around her in panic, only to find Brigid was cackling at her reaction. She was Silas’s sister and was only a year younger than him.

Seara immediately sat down and wiped the water from her face, as her body shivered. It was difficult to tell what time it was or how long she had been sleeping when there was no window in this dungeon.

Everything was very dim, with only a single bulb that illuminated this cell.

"Having a nice dream?" Brigid asked between her laughs. She threw the bucket that she used to fetch the cold water and then squatted down in front of Seara, grinning from ear to ear, happy because she could see the pain in her eyes.

Even when Brigid was five years older than Seara, she would always make things difficult for Seara for as long as Seara could remember.

Eudora and Enid would join them as well.

Previously, Silas had stood up for her, but for some unknown reasons, he stopped doing that six years ago, which gave them all a free pass to do whatever they wanted with Seara.

"What do you want?" Seara wanted to scream at her, but she found her voice was very hoarse.

"Get up; Dad wants to talk to you." Brigid stood up. She laughed mockingly when Seara struggled to stand up; she didn’t offer any help, which Seara didn’t expect her to.

The pack members in the pack house looked at Seara with a frown. Most of them didn’t know what was going on, and they didn’t feel the need to ask whether Seara was alright or not, since Brigid walked beside her.

It was already common knowledge in the pack that Seara was not really part of the Gamma family; thus, they didn’t seem to care much about her well-being.

Once Seara and Brigid entered Javen’s study room, the former gamma dismissed his daughter, though she wanted to stay and listen to their conversation.

"Leave, Brigid." There was authority in his voice, and this managed to chase his daughter away. "Sit down, Seara." He frowned when he saw how drenched she was; her body was trembling slightly. "Why are you wet?"

Seara didn’t answer him. He wouldn’t care what happened to her, even if she told him what Brigid had done.

Seara had stopped expecting her father to stand up for her a long time ago. She wondered why they would adopt her in the first place if they didn’t want her, because that was how she felt.

"Stop causing trouble, Seara. What you did last night almost caused trouble. We were so close to the human area. Someone could have spotted us, and we will have a bigger problem with the councils." Javen sat down behind his desk and intertwined his fingers together, as if he were in deep thought. "I will talk to Daven when he calms down. He is furious and worried because you tried to run away."

Seara smiled softly; she was right when she thought Javen didn’t care about her, because he jumped to the main topic without even waiting for her answer. He was not even curious why she was drenched.

"Why should I be here? All of you want Eudora to be the luna of the pack; with me gone, it will be easier."

Javen clenched his jaw, but then he sighed deeply. "Don’t be ridiculous; you have no one out there. Your family is here, in this pack."

"Family?" Even the sound of it made Seara want to laugh. "I don’t have a family."

"Why are you always so ungrateful? Should you run away and throw everything behind just because of a simple mishap? You are the Alpha’s destined mate; it should be your duty to keep him by your side when he goes astray. You should know better how lucky you are to have the Alpha as your mate."

"Would you say the same thing if it were Brigid in my shoes?" Seara straightened her back; she looked at Javen straight into his eyes. She waited for his answer.

"Brigid will know how to treat a man; the Alpha will not go astray."

Hearing that answer left Seara speechless; she didn’t know how to respond to that statement. So, at the end of the day, it was still her fault.

"In that case, why don’t you let Brigid be the Alpha’s mate? I don’t want him anymore." Seara was ready to break the mate bond.

Javen’s jaw thickened. He looked so angry. "If I could do that, I would. That’s why you need to be grateful for your position, Seara. Make yourself useful."

Javen wished it were Brigid, who would be Daven’s mate. Brigid had liked the Alpha since they were little, but unfortunately, among all the women in this pack, it was Seara.

"Now, go back to your room and don’t even dare to think of running away again. The second time, I will break your legs."
